This is one of the bigger problems with these showcases for me. It's as if Steven can't decide what these showcases are and who they're for.We have not received permission from Liniker to share the quoted post.
They can't be promotional videos cause ain't no casual internet passerby about to watch an hour-fucking-long video for some random mmo that's not even in alpha2. But Steven treats these videos as if they're gonna be shown to grannies who've never held a pc mouse in their hands.
And these showcases can't be targeted at the current core audience (you know, literally the people on all the twitch streams and react streams and on social media), because it's still an hour-fucking-long video of devs just dicking around and Steven barely playing the class properly. Any, even semi-veteran, mmo player will feel their blood boil when they see a tank not using his abilities to hold threat, or running away from mobs, or just standing around doing completely nothing because he has to talk about a pretty tree in the distance or show off a new piece of armor he just picked up.
And the blood would boil because most mmo players have experienced that same gameplay and have an immediate bad association with it. And good tanks just cringe at gameplay instead of trying to see how anything works and whether they like it.
The showing off of pretty cosmetics (that should not even be acquirable in-game btw) is a marketing ploy, but it's aimed at people who're either already super skeptical about the game due to its marketing practices, or have bought into the game a long time ago (be it in spirit or with their wallet). So it's literally a lose-lose situation, where you make all the haters even madder (while giving them ammo) and do not provide anything good for your core audience in the process.
Yes, the second video definitely cleaned up some of those issues, but you literally had a month to come up with the best way of showing off a hyped up stream, yet the best you could've come up with was a literally last-minute shittily done recording of 4 people in an 8-man location dying to mobs and literally failing to show what the tank can do (and then having to use GM hacks to even finish the showcase). Which then led to you panic-fixing it on the fly and remaking the whole damn thing.
All of this is to say just one thing: Please do better .
