Will there be a material 'treasure' hunting system for mounts that can get rare or unique items? For example sniffing for underground truffle troves with your giant boar or diving for pearls with your turtle.

Jeff, your presence will be missed! You always brought a focusing element to the wild aspirations of Intrepid. Not to mention how wonderfully humanizing it was to have you (and your family) during live streams, living life to the fullest. It was and is one of the highlights of watching the live streams. It'd be great to see you on future streams in some capacity every now and then. You are always one of 'us'. A gamer trying to make a great experience while living life. Good bye and good luck you genius family man ;~;

Break the Gank Box -- Evil Suggestions Needed

Sure, 'no one is forcing you'. No one is forcing you to stay logged in to life either. Others have said the 'bar' analogy does not apply to a video game, but they also don't answer the question op actually poses. Do we want people who aren't interested in pvp to join the game. Are we satisfied with it being possible to harass crafters? The corruption system is designed to make the game more appealing and less frustrating to crafters and other less combat oriented people. Without them you'd have to significantly rethink the economy of Verra. Just as ...

My thought is more so groups of pvpers. By having materials drop you have now given people the option to turn a passive pattern matching activity into an active combat oriented one. There will always be like minded people who have fun through combat only. It doesn't really matter if the spawn points are far apart. Such people can and will coordinate if there is a benefit to it. Because it lets them replace an activity that isn't fun for them into a fun one AND feeds into their normal play style and increases their profit, it's a very ...

Rainbow VFX / Other VFX from recent siege footage - Feedback Thread

Post by JustVine on 2021-06-01 13:06:38

Surprising probably no one who knows me, after reviewing the siege footage, I am very pro rainbow. 1. The rainbow effect is on the 'top' in field of view. It's not going to distort the view of combatants except maybe at the edges, but if you need to see in the edges you are probably close enough to see the enemy vs friend icon anyway and IS has specifically said silhouettes are important to their design philosophy. So lack of clarity from that range would mean silhouettes need tuning in this case given the rainbow is fairly translucent. 2. ...

The colorblind factor is definitely important to take into consideration, but I don't see how it effects a rainbow in particular. I would expect a rainbow is more likely to be translatable than any given color. Taking away the rainbow and focusing on the whispy 'aura' field would make it more likely to be difficult for colorblind players, not less as it is more of a shimmer than a solid color by necessity . Bands of different 'shades' is more distinct than a singular whispy aura with a color that may or may not blend into the background of ...

Rainbow VFX / Other VFX from recent siege footage - Feedback Thread

Post by JustVine on 2021-06-01 21:20:57

There is a lot to unpack here. So let's get right into it. The primary thing I feel you seem to be missing is the 'why' of the current format. When critiquing a professional designers work you must start with 'why did they do it this way.' Without doing this it's harder to give proper feed back because you might be trying to solve a different problem than the designer in question or you may have a valid critique but won't be able to 'reach' them because they don't know they are trying to solve the 'wrong problem'. In ...

Yeah, you are right. In order to keep the economy strong, we should have the ability to summon a bounty hunter via a card or something paid for up front. That way PvPers get a challenging fight, the devs a money sink, and the economy a stabler crafting material pipeline. As we say in business. A win, win, win.

Will Dwarf designs get beefier and wider?

Post by JustVine on 2021-06-02 16:30:44

Im glad they split the dwarves the way they did. I really like Niküa's design, but I wish my chonky Dünir brethern all the stocky hirsute goodness that would make them feel comfortable. I think all the criticism will really help them gauge how much they need to let the character creator engine push the character models. As it stands the current Dünir iteration is, probably whatever is easiest to do ab testing with. Ornate Dünir beard weaves and ornaments tho! Plz and thank ^.^

I am thinking to buy into alpha but have few questions

Post by JustVine on 2021-06-05 20:56:43

@darkranger the cosmetics will be rolling over to a new set on June 9th. You unlock the ability to buy 'investor' cosmetics from future options with the left over (or can keep it till later I think? Less sure on that.) You therefore have the option to buy on the 9th if you arent interested in any of the current and still get into the spot testing next week. But if you like basically anything in the current set, its still worth buying since you gain access to buying future ones. (I'm a costume monster, so just wanted to ...

Steven's Ban on 3rd Party content

Post by JustVine on 2021-06-05 23:45:47

LeviathanSummoner's concern for their friend is valid. However, I think everyone is missing an important consideration. 'When and why would the punishment come up?' Steven wants to exclude 3rd party apps. There are a number of ways it could come up and ways to properly deal with it. Possible problem cases: 1. Some kind of drm 2. Players reporting who don't know the differently abled players scenario or are being blatantly troll 3. Auto detect and reporting Possible solutions: 1. Intrepid could provide their own in house controller support and tune it to the needs of the community in ...

Steven's Ban on 3rd Party content

Post by JustVine on 2021-06-06 20:44:13

This is more nuanced than that. Your proposal would quickly stigmatize the above noted use case. Are you comfortable with creating an environment where non-able bodied people just trying to play the game have to defend themselves from being considered 'cheaters'?

Steven's Ban on 3rd Party content

Post by JustVine on 2021-06-06 21:28:31

@Marcet probably. My point is that until they come up with a cohesive policy irt the differently abled community, calling certain things cheating before they specify could pigeonhole Intrepid and make it difficult for that community. IS doesn't give me the impression they will be insensitive about it, but the policies are more likely to be implemented/finalized during the beta than the alpha. So as a community I feel we are 2 years too early to be making such an assumption as to call it 'cheating' for now, you know?

It all comes down to culture. Humanity is very good at learning social norms. But the mechanisms behind them are just as important. For example in a different thread someone was suggesting a built in reputation system to use against bullies and the ability for a shop to recuse service. The right to refuse service against a player that killed you is a good mechanism. You can change your mind. They can get shamed by the community if they ganked you in a repeated and mean spirited way. They have the opportunity to change via social means. Social change ...

How will block / ignore / function over to general gameplay and trade?

Post by JustVine on 2021-06-09 08:18:39

Why does this game 'need' espionage? Genuine question, no sarc. I like the idea of it but 'need' indicates a design balance that 'needs' taken into account, so I am interested in what you think those are.

How will block / ignore / function over to general gameplay and trade?

Post by JustVine on 2021-06-09 09:04:29

Well I am glad I wasn't asking you because that really doesn't answer my question. There are a lot of social systems already. What about these systems is lacking that requires a mechanism from the game to facilitate it. I'll take my answer from Noaani.

Idea: Military leadership, Alternative to Champions.

Post by JustVine on 2021-06-09 11:30:44

This is the main reason I hope they do some effort to balance 1v1. Without it, it sorta robs a certain segment of players the ability to claim they are the best in these nodes and win to proove it. What do you all think about the way military node is decide has a racial bias to what method is used? E.g. Dwarves and orcs lean to 1v1 humans and elves 3v3

How will block / ignore / function over to general gameplay and trade?

Post by JustVine on 2021-06-09 11:38:09

@Noaani how do you propose we deal with harassing players in this case. Live gm's should not be involved in petty squabbles, that too is story. But most games have some sort of block feature to handle this. Its a fine balance between social interactivity and anti social behaviors traditionally benefitting from a instanced ban. Perhaps there is a middle ground we aren't considering to make the proposed ban mechanic still workable. For example private guild member lists available only to guild leaders/lieutenants?

Cosmetic DLCs?

Post by JustVine on 2021-06-09 12:36:30

For future content, I would be totally down with this, especially if the quest writing is actual quality adding to my experience. However this has three flaws: 1. You will not be able to retroactively go back on the current promised cosmetics. It will not and should not change their investment model because 2. No one has an idea of Intrepids quest writing quality. You can sell a visual. Selling a story plus a cosmetic for investment only works on the general public if your writing has a good reputation, otherwise they'd have to spoil the story and what ...

Make military nodes great again *DISCLAIMER*

Post by JustVine on 2021-06-09 14:26:42

Capture the flag would make it a much closer aproximation to leadership/coordination ability. 1v1 arena would practically demand 1v1 balance or have total leadership rotations occur frequently. Additionally without 1v1 balance its more likely guilds have an edge in 1v1 arena tournaments too. Capture the flag has an easier barrier to entry, and can be designed to make balance less of an issue. Additionally you just need supporters rather than super high level/high skilled people. A shrewd upstart with good leadership ability but no large guild could still make it. And I'll repeat another suggestion I said somewhere else. ...

Make military nodes great again *DISCLAIMER*

Post by JustVine on 2021-06-10 08:04:45

Oh, are we having arguments over the meaning of military type civilizations and what type of rulerships historically technologically advance under them? Cuz damn that is up my alley. I suppose though it'd be more prudent to ask you what your definition of a 'brutal society' is before I go making assumptions. My understanding of a Military Node is that it does two main things: Bounty Hunting and Reduced Corruption timer. These are two 'competing' benefits. The main example of what I think you could mean by 'brutal society' is Pirates. I can totally see a pirate like 'society' ...

Feature creep is valid concern. This system could be buggy af. No one likes losing out on a sale due to bugs and that's one of the potential things they'd need to run even more extensive qa than other features to prevent huge backlash. Otoh itd probably be part of the block system anyway if one of those systems is implemented. But tats a separate discussion.

Dwarves

Post by JustVine on 2021-06-11 18:10:34

I really like the direction they set out for both Nikua and Dunir. I know my chonky breathern are having a hard time, but man they are getting a lot of the /details/ right even if the frame for Dunir could use a little more stout bulk. The beards, facial structures, etc I have seen in alpha are very easily scaled for sliders to get closer to what I think people want Dunir to be. They are probably just 'in the middle' for Nikua and Dunir because it's easier. Between the past few spot tests they've improved the models ...

Dwarves

Post by JustVine on 2021-06-12 10:47:50

Ah, yeah it did scale up quite a bit. I think their modeling defaults are kind of wonky and just going with the default the modeling artist used rather than trying to scale it to a specific gender. More evidence that a lot of the sliders are planned to get quite bulky like people want. Also there is nothing more creepy than some random guy going 'what are you hiding from' while your staring at your map trying to figure out which city to go to on the top of a fucking mountain where your supposed to be alone. ...

New Gambling Feature

Post by JustVine on 2021-06-20 01:32:06

This is the number 1 reason to separate tavern games in ashes from irl gambling as much as possible. Not only would it be less immersive, there are a number of ways it can negatively effect users with vulnerable psycology. That isn't really the problem either though. This person leading them elsewhere is. Its an easily mitigated problem if you just make giving websites in game difficult (probably already planned) and make the tavern games as Verra feeling as possible to lower the chances of it 'building confidence in gambling ability' or triggering the addictive psychology modern faces are ...

During the reddit q&a Stephen mentioned a Summoner's summons would be on the field permanently until death. Does that mean switching summons (for people with more than 3) and tactically unsummoning (to reset hate, hp, positioning, etc) like in FFXI will not be possible or part of the tactical design for summoner?
