But if you only have one char that goes on PKing sprees - you wouldn't care that his exploits influence your "good" char. There'd be no crossover. But those who like to PK overall, will definitely try having a character that PKs everyone they see, while their main may only PK when it truly needs it. But if that need outweigh the "fun" of ruining others' gameplay - that player would PK less, which is the point of the corruption system. Quite a fair bit of people advocated for guild membership being account-wide. We also don't know whether citizenship ...

I mean, I'm not quite sure what else needs to be said about them. They're mounts and they glide.
Post by Ludullu on 2023-01-22 09:18:57
I think that's the issue here. When I hear "gliding" I don't immediately go "but do they fly though?" Gliding is gliding. You find an elevated location. You jump and glide. You land on the ground and then run. Iirc we've heard Steven say that the flying mounts on the stream are pretty much just gliding mount models, but flying. And considering that AA is one of the inspirations, I'm imagining smth like this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CoFGbi0RGXM There's even a small "jump up" in the air on a cd.
Post by Ludullu on 2023-01-22 09:35:39
Pretty much. Just a glider that can also run on the ground (slower than a good ground mount). The quality would just determine speed of gliding and maybe the cd of the "jump", if they add it (I personally couldn't care either way). I don't really care for flairs or air tricks or whatever. All I need from a gliding mount is to let me jump off a roof or a mountain and diagonally get down to the ground.

Fairly sure the eggs are separate from the castle/metro stuff. It's just a way to get the non-royal people flying. Nope. I tried starting GW2, but barely got past the first quest Maybe I'll get further one of these days. I know that GW2 is supposed to have some cool flying mount mechanics. So cool that WoW even copied them. But outside of a gliding functionality I just wouldn't really care for them. And I'd prefer if the game didn't have reupping winds or other mechanics that could make people effectively fly all over the place. GW2's world was ...

Listen to that fifth reference. Steven mentions castles and metros and then says "in addition to those, we'll have droppable eggs, so a few more players will have access to the flying mounts". So unless something changed in design, I'd assume that people will be able to use the metro's royal stables to use their flying mount. Also, in the 7th reference Steven says there might be up to 20 players on the server with flying mounts and there'd only be 10 royal people. And that's from 2020, so I think that design hasn't really changed throughout the years. ...

I'm used to guilds that already know how they'll distribute the loot even before they kill the boss, no matter what drops from the boss. So I just prefer small drop chances and fully randomized loot (within a preset number of potential options). As for the choices on the side of players as to how they want to get the loot - make it all optional and make the party/raid vote on the choice.

I want tank to be a wall between their mates and the incoming damage. If all ranged attacks are projectile-based, the tank should be able to stand between the attacker and the victim and stop the projectile. The tank should have a "switch target" ability where the tank shield slams into one of its mates (pushing them aside, cause we got inertia and body collision) and change their melee attacker's target to the tank. The "wallness" of the tank should come in the form of different buffs (against melees, creatures, magic and arrows) and tank should also have counterdebuffs ...

Yeah, adding node-related leaderboard stats to all of this would definitely be nice https://ashesofcreation.wiki/Leader_boards

Yes, if somehow a single person can outdamage a party of people - they'll get the loot. I am curious how Intrepid would design the possibility of several randos attacking the boss w/o party, but then partying up right before the kill. Will it just add together their dps and consider the party to be the rightful owners of loot or will it be smth else. I'd imagine it's the former.

I'd say that it's rather that there are no pvp mmos and only pve or pvx ones. A pvp mmo would have a purely pvp progression, just as a pve one does. But most pvp people dislike unfair matchups, which is why the mmo genre just doesn't fit a purely pvp game and why we got all the session-based pvp games instead of pvp mmos.
Post by Ludullu on 2023-01-24 05:48:35
The game could still have npcs to give quests. There could still be crafting. The quests would just be purely player-directed and crafting could come from rng-based mats given to players on respawn and then used in all kinds of crafting through destruction/reconstruction. And removing mobs would be the point, if you were making a truly pvp mmo. There's already the closest thing to this. Foxhole is pretty much a pvp mmo with crafting. It's just that the progression is more social than really rpg-like. And crafting, at its core, comes from "pve". There's also no quests or npcs. ...

Yes. Also, Intrepid is already planning to at least test this out. Steven mentioned a cone-shaped formation with tanks. There's a fairly high chance we'll see it in this upcoming stream.

Which is why I said that it's the closest thing, instead of saying that it was the thing. And to me a "pve" mmo is not an mmo If there's no meaningful interaction between players outside of fighting a mob together - I don't see that as an mmo. But as I've said from the start of this subdiscussion, the "pvp mmo" design pretty much went into the rust/arena battler/foxhole-like games. Though I guess even Rust could be seen as a pvx game, because there's a ton of pve there. I just find it silly for "pve" mmos to ...

A ton of mmos rn let you play as a single player and even if you need a party to clear mobs - you autofind some silent players who might've as well been replaced with npcs with no noticeable changes to your gameplay. That content then gives you your gear, gives you your progression and usually finishes out the game's story. So, in a way, you can play the game as a single player with a few "npc helpers" along the way. Of course there's the RP and/or some mingames or smth, but pvx games can have that too, ...

But I'm talking about the current realities of the genre. I'm sure that there's older mmos that did this much better, just as older mmos did pvx stuff much better. But just as I'm not going back to L2 to play a good pvx mmo, I'm not gonna go play EQ2 to experience a proper pve mmo that provides good and meaningful player interaction. And I'm interested in Ashes exactly because it's going for what I consider to be a good mmo design. A combination of pve and pvp, that pushes people to party up and that then lets ...

Cause we live in the now and not 15 years ago? I dunno. Either way, this is off topic and I'm sure that no matter what I say you won't agree with my pov on this matter, just cause our initial experiences are way too different in this genre. So I'll just say that I lost this argument and move on. And I'd ask you to answer the tank question, cause I'm genuinely curious about your pov on that.

I'll judge this by my current semi-burnout with Genshin. The game is piss-easy outside of a single feature, so the hardcoreness is not really one of its draws. I played it for 12++h every single day for several months on release. I was grinding every possible material in the game and exploring every nook and cranny of its world. Later on I played only for a few hours a day, mainly because I'd explored pretty much everything already and just needed to farm up some of the rarer mats to keep up pace with any potential new characters. But ...

It's supposed to make it hard to kill many people who're not fighting back. We don't know how well Intrepid's final balancing of this system will achieve that goal.
Post by Ludullu on 2023-01-25 07:05:31
Yep, pretty much. I wouldn't really care about the difficulty along the way to my initial goal (right that being 100% exploration of the world, pretty much all possible quests, and as good a gear as I could get along the way, including any potential guild/party-related content). Getting to that goal might get super hard at times, which would just require me to "git gud" until I win. In the context of literally all the content in the game being easy for me to clear (including all the guild stuff) - I'd start PvPing against harder and harder enemies. ...

Post by Ludullu on 2023-01-25 21:50:40
I think it's because to me it becomes a puzzle of "finding the lowest limit of my power that's still enough to clear the content". In the context of the game being super easy, you'd already have cleared all the content in the game, so, if you then had to redo that content - you'd be playing a sandbox of "make your own fun". And removing gear is not really necessary in an mmo. You can go down in tiers, you can limit the amount of resources you have (if they come into play during the content), you can ...

So yeah, this is the biggest difference between our povs then. Cause in 90% of pvps in L2 I literally had to disregard my class' biggest (and pretty much class-defining) tool, because it made the class insanely OP in most pvp encounters. And I'd usually only start using that tool if I've already tried my own approach several times before and started to see that it just might not work out in the end. I think Pai Mei is my ultimate RP in mmos Beat others at a huge limitation of my power and if they prove to be ...
Post by Ludullu on 2023-01-26 01:09:02
Yeah, it's a nice system. But to clear up some stuff, a mage/ranger wouldn't be shooting arrows but magic stuff, cause their base abilities come from the mage. And the cleric/tank is not a tank. It's a cleric that will have some tanky augments, so calling it a "tank Apostle" seems a bit wrong to me.
Post by Ludullu on 2023-01-26 01:17:11
I think players should just be given word filter and word report tools. You see a word you dislike? You report it (which automatically filters it on your end). Enough reports of the same word would filter it for most people (excluding anyone who checked an option of "don't filter words"). And GMs could get flags of people who had their words filtered. In other words, I just don't think that AI would be able to properly control the chat.
