Could you elaborate on tank's hate mechanics and their differences in effects on mobs and players (if there're any)?

Are there any plans to prevent 500+ member guilds from registering 250 of their own people to their castle defense siege? (i.e. Guild A has a 250-member subguild not in an alliance and has a castle. They register their subguild to attack the castle and now any other guild can't register for it)

Could we get some idea about how the endgame gameloop will look like? There will be open world dungeons that allegedly work like Lineage 2, but in L2 you had to grind those dungeons for days on end, because outside of bosses and castle sieges that was the gameplay loop. Would this be the case in Ashes? And if not, then what is your plan for what people can do if they play 12+h a day?

Considering that transmog exists, I'd like for everyone to be able to inspect gear. Back in my day we just saw gear and knew if the person was strong or not. Transmog shouldn't stand in the way of that, it should only be a cosmetic thing. Obviously some assholes will be judging others by their gear, but that would've happened either way just because they're assholes. But I want to know how strong my enemy is so I can judge whether I want to fight them or not. Transmog took that ability from us, so at least let us ...

Those shit guilds will still boot you even if there isn't an inspection in the game. They'll always find a way. But inspection would show you their shittiness way sooner and it'll be easier for you to find a better guild. The only reason I want this is cause I'm an older mmo player who remembers the fun in having 0 transmog in the game. If I saw someone who wore better gear than me - that's a challenge I wanna try. If I see a dude in super low gear - I ain't touching him cause I don't ...

But ashes will have a transmog system. We won't see what armor others wear. I see the gear icon in the nameplate as part of the "inspection", so I want it in the game. Maybe I'm wrong to associate those two, cause I'm not used to transmog games, but whatever the case may be, as long as we can clearly see what gear our target has - I'm a happy camper.

That would only indicate the estimated class/role of the player, but not his power. Back before transmogging, you could see a dude wearing a strong armor and you knew instantly that he's gonna be a challenge to fight against in pvp. And alternatively, if you saw a dude in weak armor you knew not to hit him, because even with one crit you might've killed him and gotten corruption. With transmog that's gone. Hardcore pvp players don't see good targets to have a fun battle with, while casuals don't know how strong their potential ganker is. Seeing enemy's gear ...

I'm not even talking about the big fights. Obviously you won't have time to click on every single person on the other side of the conflict. I'm talking about small-scale pvps, if not even 1v1s in the open world. Yes, I come from L2 where you usually had particular sets for particular classes, but there were still grades to those sets. A player could be wearing 40-52 lvl gear, while the character was at 60++ lvl. You knew his base power (at least lvl40), but you didn't know the full extent. You then had to make a decision based ...

And I personally find "protected builds" quite a casual feature. If you've got the mechanical and strategic skill - your gear shouldn't matter that much. And if the only thing that helps you win is your gear, then you should "git gud". Which is why I want inspection to be a ffa. Everyone will know everyone's base power, but only through battle can we learn its true extent. Though I'm pretty sure Intrepid will either not have full inspection or have the toggleable version, like suggested in this thread. Way too many people want that, which was kind of ...

I believe the gear set icon thing was in the design even before Jeff left ( https://ashesofcreation.wiki/Nameplate) . And I see protected builds as casual exactly because I've been a hardcore pvper for years in Lineage 2, where pretty much everyone knew others' builds and sometimes even their skill build/layout. The thing that separated the greats from the plain pvpers was the skill that utilized those builds, not the gear/build itself. I've fought several people who copied my build and skill layout, but I haven't lost a single time to them because I knew how to use my skills ...

And I totally agree with that. I've been defending the corruption system on reddit for months now, so I definitely understand your point of view. And I would definitely prefer for the game to get developed in exactly the way they initially designed it, because I liked and followed the game exactly because of that design.

Could we get a new augment example? I'm sure most of them have been designed at least on paper. Elemental changes and the blinking tank is cool and all, but mb smth for a cleric or the mage would be nice too.

How much control will the summoners have over their summons? As secondary optional questions: How long is the "leash" between the two? Could we make our summons stay in one place and use some skills, while we as summoners are very far away from them?

How is it a PvX game if the non-combatant can treat a combatant as just another mob though? You can completely ignore the pvp part of the game by treating other players as just mobs with a bit better AI. You had a caravan and it got attacked? Just monsters crossing the road decided to attack it. Your node got sieged? Literally the same as the dragon event, but with more "mobs". Hell, it's even in-lore, because if a player goes red, he gains corruption, which is a thing that affects mobs too, so in a way any combatant ...

Which would make it a purely pve game then lol. Yes, exactly for the reasons I've described. We've yet to learn how much corruption we'll gain for killing a player of the same lvl. Or, we know that it's a "moderate" amount, but that obviously tells us nothing because we don't know what the upper and lower limits are. And imo, a PvX game is one where PvP stands between you and your PvE goals. And depending on how harsh the corruption balance will be, AoC's place on the PvX spectrum could differ wildly - from almost completely PvE ...

We know about the resulting penalty, but not the period of time this penalty would be applied to us. There's been quotes of "it might take several deaths to clear it", but those could mean amounts of corruption after genocidal runs or newbie killings. Here's another quote from Steven: " If you go on a murder spree and you have 10 pks under your belt then you might start feeling a significant dampening to your skill effects against other players. I don't want to give necessarily a number or curve for players to extrapolate prior to us having the ...

Yeah, I know how the system works. I've played with this system for 12 years in Lineage 2. And that quote is ripped out of bigger context. It's the 16th reference on the "Corruption" page of the wiki. And if you watch the interview, Steven says "if you kill one dude, you get a bit of corruption so the stat dampening is weak. If you go kill 10 dudes - you gonna feel it". So yet again, Steven's base penalties are based on L2's system, until they won't be because people complain during testing.

Btw, interesting point about that. I wonder if we get more XP from the same mobs if we have a ton of XP debt on us. in theory this should help casual players who might be dying often get back up quicker, but it could also help the super corrupted dudes to clear their debt quicker too, because they'd be punching above their lvl by a lot (that is if their gear allows them to kill those same high lvl mobs). Very true.

Again, I'm talking about the time-to-cleanse values. In L2 it was maybe a few mobs of your lvl if you PKed an equally-lvld dude. The amount of karma gained with each new kill would grow, so if you had a PK count of 10, you would not only risk dropping gear (same as Ashes), but you'd also need to grind mobs for a few minutes. And if you killed some dude who's 20 lvls below you, you'd need several deaths or 20-30 mins of grinding high lvl mobs (which would be almost impossible due to how farming spots in ...

No, those values only matter if you die as a corrupted player. Death is not the only way to remove corruption. Which is why I'm hammering down the idea of time-to-cleanse values. If I have very little corruption on me after killing a dude deep in a farming dungeon - I'll just kill some mobs and clear the corruption. No other penalties apply. The death penalties don't matter if you don't die.

Post by Ludullu on 2022-04-21 15:32:11

And that's where our approaches towards this system differ the most. You look at it as a "death is the main and only way to remove corruption so only the increased death penalties matter", while I look at it from the angle of "grinding mobs is the main way to remove corruption so the time required to do that matters the most". And I get a feeling that Steven is closer to me interpretation of the system, because he added the Bounty Hunter system to the game. If death was the only way to remove corruption, all reds would ...

What do you like about open-world PvP?

Post by Ludullu on 2022-04-21 18:18:10

The biggest thing about owpvp for me is the player interactions and relationships that build from that interaction. I've made years-long friendships, after pvping the same people for a month. I've made server-spanning rivalries that were built on mutual respect that came from daily pvp battles. I've created guilds purely from recruiting people through pvp fights, and those guilds could usually stand up against higher numbers of players because everyone in my guild became friends with each other and had much better coordination because of that. And I've been on the receiving end of that attitude, where I'd fight ...

Imo the best solution to this would be giving Cleric's a res that alleviates most of the death penalty. This way you'll promote party play even more and dying won't seem like that big of a hit on your progress. This would also give Clerics a way to make money. Dead people might shout in search of a cleric and offer them money/resources for a res. The same thing happened in the early days of L2.

They give each death weight. You shouldn't be able to play the game half-afk, like quite a lot of other mmos these days. And it promotes party play, which is one of the main points of Ashes - bring the community feel back to mmos.

I didn't misrepresent it though. I was talking about the severity of the stat dampening penalty after you've gotten 10 kills on you. And the fact that they haven't tested anything properly yet, so we got 0 clue about the scaling of that penalty.

And that's how it already works. Except it's an overall count rather than "for each character" one. So your first few PKs won't give you much corruption, but your 20th will cripple you quite a lot and you'll probably have to grind for hours or die multiple times.

Griefing

All of those things require a ton of time and resources, while it'd be way easier to just farm those resources themselves. Aside from that. High value resources will most likely be farmed by guilded high lvl players with defenders around them (cause why risk it). So instead of PKing this will just be some pvp for the resources. On top of that, any high value location will be built out with freeholds as soon as people know that it's a high value location. No one will sell their freehold there and you won't have the space to just ...
