From my understanding you're correct and that is the exact reason why mmos are such big and difficult games to develop. They take a ton of time even outside the sheer amount of design you gotta go through to make them interesting. And you listed just the armor assets. There's a whole world (if not several) of other assets the game needs. And as Narc said in his video on monthly streams - Intrepid really have to push the idea of each sellable cosmetic as one of the assets that they need for the game.

Good video that describes the ultimate goal of any kind of grind: make the "need" to do smth in the game feel less than the "want" of the reward that the "need" gets you. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Aqn3Zqe4AaU If I "want" an uberstrong weapon, I'll "need" to do a lot of stuff. But if I "want" a few mats for my gear repairs, I should "need" to only spend a few minutes. Unless the repairs are for that uberstrong weapon. Then I should "need" to do a fair bit of stuff.

I blame it on WoW's devs. They could only develop stuff for the highest levels and then had to give people a ton of catch-up mechanics because of that. The whole industry saw that as "the right thing to do" just because WoW kept making obscene amounts of money so more companies started shortening the journey to the top and just making people grind at max lvl instead of spreading gear acquisition across the whole leveling process. And from what I've heard Lost Ark is the latest and greatest example of this, with smth like a few hours to ...

You know what the funny thing is? I love grinding in mmos. I love idle/clicker games where you do the literally same action for moooonths to see any real growth or progress. I love that shit. But from everything that I've heard about LA, the game sounds like an absolute chore even for me. Same as you, I can't even begin to understand people who play it.

That's the thing though, there's always a cap to the mob's/boss' difficulty, while there's not really a limit to how many or how skillful the enemy players, that stand in your way, will be. Now you'll probably just say that L2's pve was so trash that I got no idea how difficult pve can be, but I can use the same argument of "you don't know how difficult it can be to overcome hundreds of players to even try the pve". And those players could potentially double, because even if you join some big guild that has the ability ...

That's the thing though, pvp was the environment in L2, and afaik in AA too. You'd go out farming mobs and you'd know that someone could come there and fight you for the same mobs. You'd go to raid a boss with your guild and you knew that the enemy guild would most likely come to contest it. The world itself was a pvp environment. And I'm guessing that Steven liked that feature so much that he even allows pvp in cities (at least so far), while L2 didn't (maybe AA did?). Pretty much all games from that time ...

I didn't even know you did. I either missed it or just haven't participated in the forum for long enough to see that. I played L2 private server through to 2018. And people always stayed. Now that might be because the only people who were still playing L2 were those who would indeed stay and fight, I can definitely see that being the case. And maybe for that exact reason Steven says they gonna develop bosses that only 1% of people can kill. I'll believe it when I see it, but until then I'm gonna stay highly skeptical.

You have 15 classes that can provide healing and maybe another 7 that can heal too. I'd say that's quite enough.

To me personally, yes, that's good content. I put in time to build up my character so I think I should be stronger than those who didn't. Yep. I truly do not care for how my character looks or what pretty mount it has. If top stats gear looked like torn up pieces of cloth covered in shit - I wouldn't care because it gives me best stats. I personally hate the sheer concept of transmog because it hides other people's power. Now I know I'm a rare breed these days, but, exactly because of that, I try to ...

I think dmg rng (within limits of course) is fine and could somewhat prevent dps toxicity. Imo overenchantment rng is fine because it brings high risk to a high reward. Drop rng is amazing. Have mobs drop 6 different things with each thing being valuable, but with one or two of them dropping very rare and being very valuable because of that. Boss respawn timer rng is great (again, within limits). Make people wait for it to spawn within some time period, which makes people pvp for the respawn spot in order not to miss the farm itself. Those ...

I'm here because Ashes has dead horse systems. And so far I haven't seen indicators of Steven wanting to change them. What I do see though is a ton of people trying to change his mind with every single post and dissuading anyone, who might agree with Steven's pov, from ever voicing their opinions. Like I said, the game might change completely, but at least I'll know that I tried to stop it from doing so. And I was doing it because I believed in the original vision.

Everything I've stated can still be a part of the game w/o alienating other people. Corruption will prevent hardcore players from touching lowbies, while allowing them to still PK a dude who's holding a grind spot (if there even are any). I believe Steven has accounted for the casual playerbase in his current design, and I'm completely fine with all of those changes. What I'm personally against is the casual players pushing those changes even further, usually because they're either afraid of a system they don't know (that mainly being Corruption) or because they've seen it done in some ...

The pve/pvp side of FF14 is definitely more of a semi-singleplayer game, but the community potential is very big. It's just that this potential is only realized for those who're ready to go out there and connect with other people, while older games made you find people because you wouldn't be able to progress w/o them. But that kind of hardcoreness is frowned upon these days, because it's "inconvenient". And we get all the auto-partyfinders and easy pve content and no owpvp, so there's no push to talk to other people. Imo that's bad, but obviously that's where the ...

Casuals would suffer from any non-casual system though. As they will with a lot of currently planned system in Ashes. So unless Steven has accounted for that and has made most of the systems in the game friendly and appealing to someone who plays 1-2h a day (if that) - those people will suffer. Any form of gear decay does that and if AoC's system is basing their decay on activities, then casuals will be directly punished for any activity they do in the game and the potential attacks they receive from other players. The system in this post ...

I love Genshin's action combat, but I dunno if that would work in an mmo context. It also has autotargeting for basic ranged attacks AND IT'S ABYSMALLY BAD. But outside of that it feels nice, animations are fluid (at least to me) and character movement feels snappy.

You'd only need to look at the color indicator on the gear you're wearing. That's it. There's no need to keep track of anything else. The gear pieces being comprised of 4 parts only comes to play at the end of the decay timer and even then, before enchantment, you'd only need one of the part's materials to fix your gear piece. And you'd be able to see that at a crafter stall. Again, from what I understand, the current design is already complex when it comes to repairs, and according to the currently presented state of the system ...

I'd hope there's no "pick this skill or this skill". Yes, we'll be able to choose augments, but I'd assume we'll have all the skills the archetype should have and only then add stuff onto them. Let those augments add/change whatever effects they want, but make the core function the same. At least that way any cleric can do their job, so there won't be some complete discrimination of "if you don't have this - you're not welcomed in any party", while the uniqueness and personality of each person remains shown through their choice of additional effects on the ...

U rite. I completely forgot about that. Well then here's hoping they can design all abilities well enough for there to be no concrete meta. I know that's almost impossible, but still. A lot will also depend on how often/expensive the SP re-attribution will be. Though at the end, it all comes down to "find a party that suits your own style and that accepts that style as one of their own". And if you can't find a party like that - make one. Back in L2 I played a more physical build of a phys-mage class, while pretty ...

Yes, we've already seen a video where they show a mount change its visuals through the seasons. I forget which stream it was in, but it was a tortoise with a tree on top of it and the tree changed. Ah, it was this stream and it was more about day/night cycle and weather, but the concept is the same. And iirc Kirin from the stream are also mounts and I don't think your mount would somehow not work with seasons while all the mobs do.

Node types are predetermined and will probably be the same on all servers (not sure though). No one directly controls a node. You can have the majority of citizens be from one guild and in that way that guild can "control" what the node has/does, but there's no in-game direct control. Nodes can have trade agreements and, iirc, become allies. Corruption isn't meant to be a gameplay style. It's a penalty for those who murder pacifistic people.

I don't think the problem is with your creativity or ideas themselves. I only recently started reading the forums and several times now I thought you were pretending to be an Intrepid dev because of how you frame your ideas. And if I wasn't familiar with how internet and forums work I'd definitely think that you're a dev, which is a very dangerous thing because all your ideas have nothing to do with the game itself. So if someone completely new comes here, sees your posts and thinks that you're one of the devs sharing some design details, they'll ...

@Otr Steven (lead director and the "main guy") has already invested over $40 mil of his own money. He'll lose quite a lot if this game fails. So I'd suggest you try to learn more about the game, especially if you "wanted to preorder to support" it.
