Nope, just to the bigger gameplay style. If you have more movement in the game - you can afford to move more between attacks. And imo the game should make you move more. Though there is a possibility that in the end the majority of abilities will be castable on the run or at least have a directional part to them, so that you move with your attack instead of being fully planted.

I meaaan, I don't need to imagine. I lived that in L2 Though yeah, collision wasn't a thing there. But imo seeing a boss stand in one place and ~20 people wailing on his ass in a clumped mess is not much better. And that's exactly how it'll look if tanks can hold the boss in place. Both ways won't look good so I wouldn't judge either one purely on that. But you do bring up an interesting point, how exactly do Intrepid plan to address this interaction. An overworld boss with potential hundreds of people trying to kill ...

But isn't "covering up each other's mistakes" the point of group content? At least until everyone can play as perfectly as possible. But either way, I think we just have differing views on how the pve interactions should be designed so I'm not sure if we'll come to a consensus on this particular topic. And Intrepid have obviously not shown any real indication of what their tank will end up being. Cause ooooh boi that showcase definitely did not show good tanking, let alone AI that would require good tanking.

Couldn't this be said about a moving target too though? Just design it properly and it'll be fun

https://forums.ashesofcreation.com/discussion/53205/24-7-pvp-during-guild-node-wars/p1 Yeah, I hope there's a way to remove the mayor from their seat if the majority of the populous disagrees with the war.

Any node can declare a war on any other node. I'm pretty sure that's what OP meant. The size of the guild doesn't matter here. OP was just stating that the ability of any other node to declare war on a node whose citizens comprise the strongest guild could undermine that guild's work towards improving and building up their node. All the whims of a single person. Node siege and node war are different things. Any citizen can cast a siege scroll, but only node government can declare a war.

Except that streamer have most likely put in years of work to garner a viewerbase big enough to not only justify them subbing to a game, but also playing often enough to get that streamer a mayoral position. This is literally no different from a GL becoming a mayor because his big guild decided to live in the same node. Yes, I should've been clearer with what I meant by "any node vs any node". I was talking about any non-linked node on the server, my bad. As for reasoning - it can be anything, from just "we want ...

My main issue is them saying "this is an 8-man location, but we're 4". Why state that? Why incept our minds with thoughts of "ah, this game will be pisseasy for a normal group of people"? Like, this would literally not be an issue did Steven not say that this was meant to be a location for more people. Alternatively this could've been a "proper difficulty" that would pretty much be the same on release, but then this would not be an 8-man location. If content is this easy then any full group will just go to places with ...

This is kinda the problem. And in theory all of those methods are abusable, if they remain on a monthly basis. But if you're a shitty mayor - I'd definitely prefer if people could do at least something about that. Different node types could even have different ways of addressing that, but there should be something.

I liked it, which makes your dislike not objective
Post by Ludullu on 2023-02-01 15:15:23
And a high-fantasy video game is not reality. That also seems to be an objective fact

It's more about the potential abuse of the selection systems by any stronger guild or group of people. And the influence of that abuse on the common population of the node. I'd imagine that a lot of players would not even participate in voting cause they won't care too much about how the node is controlled, as long as it's not hurting their gameplay. Those who don't care could potentially be bribed with items or money, because they could only benefit from that kind of trade (at least until the node goes to shit). This would compromise a scientific ...

I'm fairly sure cleric and fighter are wearing a cosmetic set that won't be achievable in-game, so you can disregard them. Tank and ranger look right about what I'd imagine lvl~15s to look like. The "set" that Steven equips later is also a cosmetic set from a bundle. Never forget that most of the gear they're showing off is just cosmetics from the bundles. I personally dislike this practice, but Steven gonna Steven and promote the game with false gear.

https://ashesofcreation.wiki/Titanbark_Mail Here's Steven's personality People will wear costumes from lvl1, so you'll see epic stuff right from the start of the game. It's inevitable with a cosmetic shop. But it also fits the lore of the game, so I care about that even less than usual.

A rare item of "Koryn" who might've been some kind of magical dude or it might've been a magical place. We don't know the lore deeply enough to say one way or the other. But if you're fine with magical items being bigger, then I find this whole discussion quiiiiiiite silly

https://ashesofcreation.wiki/Costumes Costumes (and pets) don't have a level restriction. Other cosmetics require an in-game item to be obtained first.[7][8] It's an alpha. And it's Steven. During the first video he literally GMed himself the pants. Nothing is real here. These are literally the items from that cosmetic costume, just in parts.
Post by Ludullu on 2023-02-01 16:13:19
I'd expect rare items to be... rare. If for some dumb reason they are not rare, than what's the fucking point of calling them that. The fact that this item "dropped" during the showcase means nothing, because it was placed into that mob for this showcase. And like I said, we have no info on how this item is obtained normally. You might need a ton of magical materials to craft it. Or you might have to take a quest from a magical dude to get those mats. Or any other number of magical reasonings in a magical world ...

It doesn't matter, because literally all the cosmetics they've sold so far have been costumes. So all the people with high tier bundles will be able to equip their cosmetics right from the start.
Post by Ludullu on 2023-02-01 16:21:29
I read that as the exact opposite. As in, you have a "costume" slot and that costume just completely covers whatever you're wearing, as opposed to the usual cosmetic of "boots will replace your boots, helmet will replace your helmet, and so on". But even if it requires a set of gear, I'd imagine there's gonna be either some ultra basic set that you get as your starting gear or just the very first one you can buy/get from the first vendors and quest givers.

A shame that Narc didn't do the least bit of searching, but yes, there will be a taunt. But for some absolutely dumbass reason the TANK showcase didn't show literally the biggest part of the tank's skillset in 99% of mmos. And for an even dumber reason taunt is supposed to come on later in the character's life. This is literally what the people complained about when it came to class identification and the "I don't want to waste 25 lvl w/o my core abilities" issue. I dearly hope that Intrepid rethink this asap. I don't need 10 abilities ...

Not "any", only the warring node's citizens (and probably their allied). The penalty is also less than if they were PKed. The attackers would also need to find you to kill you, while they'd be flagged against all the citizens of your node, so they might die before even finding you.

There's been no indication that anything has changed. They said that we'd be able to have up to 75:25 ratio between the two systems. And the showcased had Steven using the abilities in both modes. The biggest seeming change is that the abilities just work in both modes instead of being purely one or the other (though the grapple seemed to require a target), but that could just be chucked up to the testing stage of development and Intrepid could easily lock the abilities into either system.
Post by Ludullu on 2023-02-02 12:47:32
Just watch the tank showcase. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DwWK9HJNJRQ They not only explain how the abilities work and differ between modes, but Steven uses them in both modes throughout the video. Though it's mainly tab targeting, because Steven prefers that.
Post by Ludullu on 2023-02-02 13:28:09
What kind of difference did you expect? Most abilities are the same both in tab and action. You just need a target to cast them if they're purely tab, as the case with the grapple ability.
Post by Ludullu on 2023-02-02 18:27:11
Yeah, sounds great and like something that those older pve mmos would have (and some did have iirc). I'd definitely like this kind of variety of the same concept across different classes. And this could be done either through tool abilities or even augments on particular abilities, whichever fits the risk/reward approach better when it comes to SP/AP distribution.

As it's usually the case with L2's mechanics - the basic "+threat" one. Just a single mid-ranged ability that generates quite a bit of threat on a fairly short cd. I'd obviously want a wide variety of taunt applications and threat manipulations. I just found it quite silly that taunting wasn't even mentioned during the showcase, even though I'd imagine that a "taunt" ability is what most people think of when they hear the word "tanking". Especially considering that there will be a taunt ability. I totally get that it might not have been developed properly yet, but then ...
Post by Ludullu on 2023-02-02 20:39:47
That's kinda my point though. Yes, we saw a few new abilities from the tank, but outside of that it seemed fairly similar to what we had in alpha1. But we didn't see one of the basic abilities, even though Steven said post-showcase that this ability will be present in the game, even though there was 0 mention of it during the showcase itself. This kinda circles back to the "streams should probably be a bit more scripted" debate this forum has had for the past god knows how long, but that's obviously off topic so whatever. I just ...

This is why I think that some triggers for a more frequent use of slowing/rooting abilities by the mobs would help quite a bit. And it would feel a bit more active than just a "mob runs after you until it gets in range of an attack" situation. Also, if there is a leash, should it be a location one or a player one, or a combination of both? I'd personally prefer a location leash (not just a spawn point, but a whole location) with no player leash, so that fleeing players gotta leave a location completely because all ...

I mean, unless the mobs will be several times (or maybe even several dozen times) harder than the ones from tank showcase - I'd imagine a ranger/tank could build up enough threat on a group of mobs while successfully kiting them to let some mages aoe those mobs down. We'll obviously have to see how viable that'll be once we get to the mob balancing stage, but I do think there's a chance that it's gonna be possible. My main concern with aoe farming is one party overtaking several spawn spots. And if mobs are supposed to be thick ...

Party mobs should be difficult enough for solos to die almost immediately against them, or at least struggle immensely, so I don't think that'd be a problem.
