And you didn't get my point. A rare item should be rare across the entire server. This is not an instanced mmo, where literally the entire playerbase is grinding the same dungeon 24/7 and drops "rare" items like apples from a tree. There might be 10 mobs that give you mats for that hammer and the chance of those mats is smth like 0.5% or smth. And there's constant pvp for those mobs, because this rare hammer is good for its lvl or has the best phys pen in its type. This would mean that barely anyone on the ...

Even if we count all Asmon's viewers as "fans" of the game eagerly waiting for the release - that's gonna be a drop in the ocean of the playerbase on release. But if the game is trash on release then that amount of people won't matter. And if alpha2 being delayed helps them to make the game not trash - so be it.

WoW is an instanced mess, so no, let's not say they're classic wow rare. To you it does, to me it doesn't And by any chance, have you played or seen footage from WoW's alpha? Did it all remain the exact same until release? Did every item that they claimed was "low lvl" remain low lvl? Or was it, by chance, all just placeholder until they started balancing it all out and moving stuff around? You're comparing a game in alpha against a released product (though you're currently comparing it to a rereleased product, but that's beside the point). ...

Oh, this gives me an idea. If item decay won't be represented visually on items, I'd like to have 2 versions of gear: pristine crafted one and a worn rugged dropped one. Full dropped items should be insanely rare, so having a rugged version of an item would be a cosmetic choice that shows either big riches or insane luck.

I do hope alpha2 comes about before the heat death of the universe. Would be really uncomfortable to play the game when there's literally no space

In both node wars and sieges every single citizen participates, so it's not lvl-dependent there. The impact of lower lvls will just be smaller. Node sieges might also have the same siege machines that can be operated by lower lvl players, so that could be the biggest role you could play as a lowbie. In theory Intrepid could add some war goals for purely low lvl characters, but I don't think we've heard about anything like that so far.

Like I said, every citizen is the participant in the node war/siege. There's no limit so no "invite". Those theoretical siege machines might just be overtaken by high lvl players just because they want to operate them, but that's not any different from you being a high lvl player and someone else just being faster than you in taking those machines. But yes, your smaller time investment will be less influential than someone else's bigger time investment.

That's for castle sieges. Node ones don't have that https://ashesofcreation.wiki/Node_sieges During the declaration period, individuals or guilds can register to attack or defend providing they meet the criteria.[15][16] The player who originally declared the siege cannot exclude anyone from joining the attack.[15] Citizens of the node or provincial nodes being attacked are automatically registered as defenders.[29] Players do not need to be citizens of the node in order to register as defenders, but they cannot be citizens of a node that is at war with the node they wish to defend.[30] Citizens of allied nodes cannot register to attack.[31] ...

Make this a node project that makes player crafter do this and I'd love it It would give the whole crafting chain something massive to do, would consume quite a bit of resources (also provided by the players) and would help out those casuals (who'd probably use those node quests to provide some mats in the first place). This pretty much sounds like Foxhole's production cycle, except tied to a single event rather than a permanent one and on rental basis rather than "you have it as long as you don't die".

Yes to all others except for this one. Purely because we lack information on how that negative reputation is acquired. If you can get enough of it through just failing some quests or anything like that - some casual players might suddenly become flagged against everyone around them and just die on the spot Maybe if there's an appeal system that shows how you became EotS and the mayor can acquit you asap - then I'd be fine with that. Outside of that, the system definitely seems quite interesting and could lead to a ton of cool player interactions. ...

Yeah, there's a thin line between what should and should not be allowed. The lack of info of all the other systems impacts this as well. What are the exact effects of overfarming? What if that citizen overfarmed to trigger them on purpose cause they knew how to use them for the benefit of the node? What if the node just so happened to get a ton of bots as citizens and the negatively reputable person just PKed them all to help out others? What if some guild decided to buy out all the local resources from the market ...

I think they were just working on different time scales. The first player played for longer but just wasn't as skillful at game's mechanics, while the second player was amazing at mechanics but hadn't played as long to get the gear, cause gear usually just means time, unless you have ties to veteran players that can just give you gear.
Post by Ludullu on 2023-02-07 00:22:45
Yeah, that's what I'm used to, but I dunno how Asheron worked. Maybe solo skill is more prominent there or maybe that second player also had veteran friends and was just a newbie in the game, but just had better mechanical skill so could kill the better geared player through sheer skill alone, and even if the fight escalated to gvg - the second player would've still won because they probably had friends on a similar skill lvl so he'd be better social skill wise too. But then one could ask how'd the first player's guild got the gear ...

Citizenship comes from housing. Housing gets more expensive with each new citizen. At a point the cost will be just too great for anyone to become a citizen. Intrepid just set that balancing up in such a way that only a certain amount of people can become citizens (give or take a few) and you'll have yourself an even distribution of people.
Post by Ludullu on 2023-02-07 13:56:45
Oh, of course, but we were talking about node citizen amounts, which is why I brought up that Intrepid could easily control that.

NW had a shitty beta. Then they waited a year. And they sold FUCKING 4.5 MIL FIRST MONTH and apparently 25 fucking mil uptill now. That's for $40 for a game that was known to have 0 content on release, then had an absolute shitton of problems for the first year after release and just now starting to turn things around. I cannot imagine how much Intrepid would have to fuck things up to not get millions of people to at least try a month of the game. Literally no one will care if alpha2 looks like shit. Even ...

After 2 years, the biggest video is still only 2.6mil. And I bet that most people that saw that video have forgotten about the game. And I'm sure that if alpha2 comes out as it should - an alpha, people will just forget about the game again until it comes out. And when the game comes out, all those people will just come back and play the game. Just as it happened with NW.

Why should I move to an undesired location just because my mayor is shite? Why shouldn't I have a way to influence that shitty mayor? Isn't this game all about the socialization and all that good stuff? If people literally can't influence the mayor outside of a single monthly event - imo that ain't social at all.

Like I've written in some other threads, I'm 90% sure that all election types will be abusable. I'd prefer if there was a way for the citizens to at least try and do smth about that.
Post by Ludullu on 2023-02-07 21:31:48
Questing could be made easier by a guild and a single character could be accshared among the guild. Obviously that's against the rules, but unless Intrepid pay close attention to that - it won't be found out. Democratic elections will just need the majority of votes to be abused. That could be done by a guild or through bribery. Military nodes can be rigged by a guild. Eco nodes will be bought by guilds, because they'll always have more money than random casuals and they'll always be more willing to pool that money to win an election. I doubt ...

Being in a guild doesn't cost me anything (outside of a potential tax). Living in a node not only defines what I farm, where I explore and where I live, but also requires a ton of money to upkeep and then would require even more money to move (because the prices in other nodes would already be way bigger than the one I got when settling the first time). Those are not the same situations. But even not counting that, yes, I've had situations where I "changed the GL" by just talking to most members of the guild and ...

And yet their stream vods barely break 90k on YT and on twitch they only get a few thousands viewers. Even Asmon's reactions get ~300k views, which is in line with views on his other vids so it's mostly the same people watching Ashes news instead of new ones. And I'm sure that the "6mil" number you imply is also pretty much same people, just distributed across different channels. And they have already bought in. 100k in fact. And even more people will buy in when alpha2 releases. But they won't really care what form alpha2 comes in. But ...

Time investment of rebuilding a guild is nowhere near the same to the investment of changing your location, building up new relationships with the locals, building up the node itself (cause high lvl ones would most likely be at their capacity) and most likely fighting other nodes in the process. And how many people, do you think, would not just leave the game if days of their time was wasted due to a single person's decisions, while those people could literally do nothing about it? In forced pvp the victim can fight back. In declared wars or sieges the ...

Which is kinda my point (if I understood you correctly). Intrepid is trying to go for a real open development by showing true alpha stages of the game. And the absolute majority of common mmo players wouldn't care about that shit, because it's not the game. But if Intrepid then tries to make a game out of alpha2 - they'll attract those common players (even if it's just views on Asmon's stream/reactions) and those players will get disappointed because alpha2 will still look like shit, because it's not a fully finished game and won't have all the things Intrepid ...

Have long leashes on mobs so that this is possible, but give players different tools to address this mechanic. Aggro shifting abilities, pacifier abilities, fear abilities, etc etc etc. Also, trying to pull a long train should be very difficult and result in very high chances of death. Mobs should have slows/roots/stuns/other CC that start to trigger way more often if there's several mobs clumped up together. Additionally, aggroing more mobs within the same location should trigger their social AI which will increase the aggro on the original train puller, so it's not as easy to lose the train. ...

Anyone who follows a non-existent game closely enough to give feedback on its development is a hardcore player. If they play alpha stages that are locked behind a ton of money - they're even more hardcore.
