Sieging nodes, but can we raid them?

Post by Ludullu on 2023-03-07 21:49:32

Node subterfuge should be enough to encourage people to leave. Raids could lead to faster node decay or complete shutdown of particular important buildings or anything of that sort. But as soon as you give the ability to raid player housing within a node (and steal their shit) - you'll get yourself a shitton of complaints of "I was offline and my resources got cleared out somehow. Is this a bug or smth?" Node sieges are a primetime huge event that has several days of buildup. Your suggestion is as random occurrence, potentially in the middle of the night, ...

NO PVP on the Freehold Please!

Post by Ludullu on 2023-03-08 03:40:29

It's gonna be rare in normal situations, where people are close to other players in farming/gathering locations. But freeholds will be the most anti-pvp gameplay, so majority of people would never expect getting killed there. And most likely freeholds will be quite away from any other players, because they'd be at some distance from mob spawns and quite likely some ways away from gatherables. And people are way more likely to afk around their freehold and also have valuable mats on their character, because they'd be using them around their freehold. Obviously people can just run back into their ...

NO PVP on the Freehold Please!

Post by Ludullu on 2023-03-08 04:27:11

Well, to you, obviously that would be worse. But to any player who wants to go as hardcore into artisanry as you go into pve - they'd be as pissed off at getting attacked while doing that as you'd be when attacked on a boss. And again, even if we assume that everyone will always afk in their house, even if they put as much stuff as possible inside their house - there'll still be things that you'll have to put outside and use outside. And now any dickhole can just prevent you from doing that content. You have ...

NO PVP on the Freehold Please!

Post by Ludullu on 2023-03-08 05:04:37

That's a pretty big assumption, considering we have 0 info about processing gameplay or any of its requirements. If you're fine with this, then I'm sure you'll be fine with a guild just standing between you and a boss. Just don't farm the boss, ez. It's not even about profit, it's about fucking someone over and this exact change allows people who'd want to fuck others over to do so super easily. I've played with and against people that spent weeks leveling their PK alts just to fuck over people at higher lvls. And then spent days getting out ...

Is there enough 24/7 structured PvP available?

Post by Ludullu on 2023-03-08 14:18:47

Except it won't be. They already said it won't be a deep dive into the dungeon. So we won't see what they've designed, because there's nothing to show. At best, we'll hear what they want to design, but I somehow doubt it. I think Noaani is talking more about the details and deeper designs rather than surface lvl "you'll need pve cause it has loot". How will bosses work? What will be the mechanics? How will you address pvxness of it all through those mechanics? What are your designs in relation to the plan of "content that can only ...

Bounty Hunter reward farming abuse.

Post by Ludullu on 2023-03-08 22:21:45

We got 0 info about the BH system and at this point I'm not even sure it'll stay around till release. But yes, there's a chance that this abuse is possible. But if it is - we'll just help Intrepid fix that issue.

Bounty Hunter reward farming abuse.

Post by Ludullu on 2023-03-08 22:49:55

Your corruption gain increases with your PK count and the death penalties stay on the character, because death penalties are separate from the corruption penalties. If you use the same characters for these scheme, pretty quickly you'll get to a point where it'll take you more time to clear the corruption than it would've taken you to just find a real PKer. You could maybe do this with lvl1 chars, but we don't know if there'll be any BH limitations in that kind of situation. I'd imagine Intrepid would at least put level-depending rewards, so that lvl50 BHs can't ...

In game voice over?

Post by Ludullu on 2023-03-08 22:58:47

What if, by the time Ashes comes out, we'll get laws that let VAs "sell their voice", so that companies can train an AI on that voice and then just use the AI to easily voice any and all dialogue in the game. I feel like that's gonna be the future of VAing games. We'll obviously go through the pains of illegal voice use and all that shitty stuff, but I do think that the industry will come to a proper solution sooner or later.

It's still kinda rough rn, but it'll only get better and if you feed the AI proper voices and in a proper way - it's gonna be even better. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LN-TdgGeGXw

On "rotations"

Post by Ludullu on 2023-03-09 17:41:40

Except unless those 4 same-case abilities have the exact same dmg and the exact same cd and the exact same effect - they'll be on a rotation to maximize their usefulness. One of them is a second longer in cd? Use it first so that it comes back by the time you've finished using the other 3. One of them uses a bit less mana? Use it last so that if your mana get's burned you might still be able to use it. And so on and so on. Literally anything will be put into a rotation, as long ...

Is there enough 24/7 structured PvP available?

Post by Ludullu on 2023-03-09 18:12:28

Definitely not saying that the game will be shit. Just saying that expecting anything from the showcases is useless because there's nothing to show currently. My main problem is with the absence of deep design meat in the showcases. Yes, I'm not a designer, but I'd assume that your experience with power plants design tells you that one does not build up a whole damn building w/o knowing what's gonna be inside. We're the customers who'll be directly influenced by that plant and its success, in turn, is kinda dependent on us. So if we visit the construction site ...

On "rotations"

Guess that either comes from the gcd presence or it's just my lack of understanding of the concept itself and it was also present in L2 but I just never thought about it cause pve usually came down to just the strongest dmg ability and pvp came down to you using all the tools you have, so there wasn't a single best way to do things (well, unless you were way stronger than your opponent ) But I think that's the issue with this convo from the very start. Maybe the OP played some really shitty games, but I ...

On "rotations"

Post by Ludullu on 2023-03-10 01:01:04

Do you have any ideas on that? Cause unless I missed it, I haven't seen a suggestion as to how to fix this. You provided a few things that you don't quite see as "rotations", but you didn't give an example of how those abilities would work in a raid/pvp environment. Or at least how they'd be any different from just doing a boss mechanic while managing your 20 rotating buttons.

Warscore: with diplomacy option + gear damage + tips for healers and boosters

Post by Ludullu on 2023-03-10 19:41:14

I don't quite follow. The contract is against a whole entity of a guild or a node, but you get money for singular kills and the payout is determined on those singular kills? On top of that the killers would have to spend money on wardeccing the contract's entity if they want to participate in the contract. Wardeccing will probably cost a pretty penny, so how much money exactly would the contract setter would have to spend to create a contract for it to ever be viable? Also, the "mayor can set contracts for node money" sounds exactly like ...

Warscore: with diplomacy option + gear damage + tips for healers and boosters

Post by Ludullu on 2023-03-10 20:29:17

That's part of my point. Pvp will have decay even in pvp events, so mercs will have their good gear decay. If the pay is small, then it might not even cover the expenses. And if the pay is large, then the contractor wouldn't even have enough money to support that contract (especially when it comes to several groups picking it up). And if you have high rewards - you're laundering node's money (and a guild would just spend money on their own power instead). The math just doesn't add up. Also, I'd rather have better game systems than ...

Warscore: with diplomacy option + gear damage + tips for healers and boosters

Post by Ludullu on 2023-03-10 20:59:49

That whole premise is dumb. Why the fuck would one pvp event not have the same penalties as the others. And the other way around. I think all pvp events will have gear decay or Intrepid will remove all penalties completely. Otherwise it's very stupid. The Caravan quote comes mainly from Steven being questioned about attacker negatives, cause in caravan raids only the defenders lose. Except it is your problem because you're suggesting the system. If no one uses the system (which I highly doubt people would) - then it was a useless system that wasted dev time.

And that's the exact reason why your system wouldn't work. You don't care about it working and don't care about people enjoying it.

Warscore: with diplomacy option + gear damage + tips for healers and boosters

Post by Ludullu on 2023-03-10 21:15:49

Any guild with money would just spend that money to help themselves get stronger if they needed to win a war. Especially when the cost of a contract gets unreasonably high due to the costs on the side of the contractors. And like I said already, your system doesn't give any additional benefit on top of "people can and have already done that by themselves". Merc guilds would negotiate in the same way you're suggesting here, except they don't need a game system to do that. And also, in the current free negotiations there's always space for lying, backstabbing, ...

Warscore: with diplomacy option + gear damage + tips for healers and boosters

Post by Ludullu on 2023-03-10 21:25:55

My gold can, because I don't need a weak casual carebear system to help me get power. You love to talk all about carebears and whining and weakness, but this contract system is the weakness. You guild/node can't even coordinate a proper attack on your enemy, across timezones and the entirety of the game's world? You're weak. Gid gud or die trying. My L2 guilds had to wake up in the middle of the night to kill a boss and on multiple occasions I've had sick friends with 39C temperature delay other guilds from farming a boss by running ...

Warscore: with diplomacy option + gear damage + tips for healers and boosters

Post by Ludullu on 2023-03-10 22:03:08

I'm seeing a lot of dissonance in this comment. Decide which side you want to be on, helping weak carebears or disregard their opinion. You talk quite badly about pretty much any other suggestion that helps out casual players, but when it comes to your suggestion, it's suddenly all about helping the poor and protecting the weak. Your system would be used by super rich guilds to put down weaker guilds. And it would only increase the disparity between the casuals and the hardcores. The strong guild would just put up a contract that completely covers the price of ...

Caravan raiding

Post by Ludullu on 2023-03-11 04:54:03

I definitely want caravans to be used often, because that would shut up all the "I only want pvp in a pvx game" people. But I do think that this issue can be controlled through testing and balancing, so, in theory, we'll be able to see which method works best. The only thing left is to wait 84 years for Alpha2

I think there was a question about this on one of the streams, but it was a long time ago and wiki didn't give any result for "control" or "vision". But I didn't go through all of the related pages, so maybe try it and you'll find the quote for what Intrepid's planning.

Military mayor should be based on monthly PvP score

Post by Ludullu on 2023-03-12 18:40:37

Disagree with the score part, agree with ffa being a shit way to determine it. But I think the best way would be to combine the two. Pvp score should be a part of the champion's power (probably 30-40% overall). The rest of the power should come from daily and weekly bracket pvp, with weighted distribution. And then at the end of the election cycle you get a seeded bracket (size depending on the lvl of the node) that leads into a winner/loser brackets and at the end the top loser (who lost their first fight, but then won ...

Military mayor should be based on monthly PvP score

Post by Ludullu on 2023-03-12 19:09:02

I saw it more of a you register for it when you log in the bracket gets set up at the same time every day during prime time you get a visible and hanging notification 20 mins before the fighting begins, so that you can prepare yourself you get teleported to the arena for a 5min fight (less if ends quicker) if you lose - your daily is finished if you win - you keep going at most it'd be ~an hour of arena for the strongest players in the node Yeah, point distribution to allow some builds and ...

Military mayor should be based on monthly PvP score

Post by Ludullu on 2023-03-12 19:29:24

These points contradict themselves. If pvp score directly determines whether you'll become a mayor - people will feel like they NEED to pvp every single day, except instead of "I spend <60m a day fighting in great pvp" they'll be running around like headless chickens looking for pvp to up their score. And what would more likely happen is that quite a lot of people will just start abusing the score system, make alts to pvp, ask friends to die to them, etc etc. Like I said, the queue is building up for several hours of primetime, so there'll ...

Military mayor should be based on monthly PvP score

Post by Ludullu on 2023-03-12 20:19:24

I think I missed your suggestion for the election itself. You say "mayor should be based on pvp score", but you want to set a max limit on the points. So how exactly will the mayor be elected if everyone has the same amount of points?
