Exactly. And considering that EotS will be a free target for anyone from said state (iirc), that definitely seems way more dangerous for that "enemy" than any kind of corruption-based attacks. And if a worse system isn't seen as harassment, then why should a better one be one?

As Voeltz said, p2w is not the same as rmt. A big solution I could see is an rmt report section where players could flag dudes who they don't know who suddenly have insanely rare/expensive gear. At which point GMs could track their logs and then track the gold/gear they have. If Intrepid has proper tools in place, this whole process should be fairly straight forward. And nodes creating small communities would lead those new decked out people to stand out from the crowd. I've seen this kinda work in L2. I say "kinda" because I mainly played on ...

Doesn't WoW do that and it still doesn't help cause bot sellers can always just sell cheaper? And this dance can continue until literally everything in the game costs nothing.
Post by Ludullu on 2022-08-03 23:34:05
We won't know their solution because knowing it would help botters counter it.

They've explained how they gonna not have p2w. They'll just have cosmetics and sub, which theoretically should provide them enough money to sustain development. Rmt is not p2w. And their main presented way of countering bots/rmt is active GMs. Those GMs will have tools that we won't know about, at which point it's a question of whether you trust devs to make good enough tools and trust GMs to use them well enough. If you don't trust either - it's pointless to be screaming about that on the forums, because some people do trust them and some people are ...

What solution were you expecting to see? The classic shitty "trading disabled" (which still doesn't solve the bot problem)? The 1984's "give us your ID?" Intrepid has already said that they'll have system to combat any and all abuses/exploits/illegal activities in the game. If you don't trust the devs to do that, why are you even waiting for the game?

But that's the thing though. At which point does a definition become completely false? If any form of rmt is considered p2w, then even getting another account for the game would be p2w because it allows you to do more stuff than someone who only has their own account (that's if we don't even consider having the game in the first place as p2w, cause some people can't afford it and "lose" as the result). Do we now have to forbid having more than one account? P2W has always meant "devs are officially selling smth that gives you an ...

All that Intrepid need to is track repetitive player activity in the same region with relation to the amount of certificates/materials on the character's person. Flag anyone who spends too much time farming the same mobs or gathering the same mats (if that's gonna be even possible) and then have a GM check that player for "botness". Mobs won't be dropping gold and instead will drop certificates that must be traded for gold in a node. You just track any big amounts of certs exchanges (on top of tracking big amounts on players), flag the player who made the ...

My 3.5 cents. It's all fucking subjective (I know, shocker). A lot of people couldn't give fewer shits about cosmetics. A lot of people couldn't give fewer shits about extra char slots or extra inventory spaces or any other p4c stuff that the first group of people would find p2w'y. On top of that, everyone has their own style of gameplay (especially in Ashes). Some people only care about numbers going up (me). Someone only cares about cool quests/story/RP (Dygz, probably). Someone cares only about having a crafting stall in a node and being a part of the community. ...

And L2 had great gear progression mainly due to its leveling progress being sloooow as fuuuck. And gear progress was even slower really. You'd usually move onto the next tier of lvls (lvls determined what gear tier you could wear), but would still be wearing penultimate progression step of the previous tier. It was expensive, it was hard to craft and it took several people farming several different resources and even more people farming mats for the craft. And all of this took days. I fucking loved it and definitely hope that AoC's "45 days of 4-6h a day" ...

We still don't know how the weapon skill tree will look like, but we do know that any class can use any weapon, so my assumption is that every class might have some passives that relate to some/most/all weapons. And you'll be able to spec into the weapon you want to main. But as for "level up with use" stuff, I'd personally be against it cause that just adds grind on top of grind to the game. And considering that you'll have to specialize in artisan skills I don't see why you'd be able to be a jack of ...

As I've said in another post in another p2w thread, if the majority of mmo players truly cared about how you achieved the cosmetics - we wouldn't have the current monetization practices of "selling cosmetics is completely fine". But alas, we're here.
Post by Ludullu on 2022-08-04 21:33:30
Again, if the absolute majority of people (those who just buy the cosmetics and literally prop up the this whole damn monetization scheme) really cared about any of this shit - we wouldn't have it. But those people don't care, which is why we do have this monetization. Alternatively one could call all those paying people dumb and sheep, but I shall not do that (even though I just did). All the vocal minority who scream that smth's unfair or p2w or whatever (this includes all the other p2w stuff in games) are just that - a minority. No ...

Here's a problem I have with the "cosmetics are p2w" argument. When we're talkin about regular p2w, we're usually talking about objective numbers, be they atk stat or "time to reach max lvl that gives you those atk stats" or anything similar that puts you directly above someone who didn't pay for said "p2w" item. But when we're talking about cosmetic p2w, how and who determines what's "winning" and what's not. Cosmetics are completely subjective and based purely on taste. 10 people might see a rainbow shop cosmetic, say that it's utter shite and move on, while a single ...
Post by Ludullu on 2022-08-04 22:06:13
Yeah, I'm curious about this, because at this point it seems even less about the collection and could even be pushed to be about just a single item. Like, "I like this particular store cosmetic, but literally not a single other one, but because I see having this particular cosmetic as "winning in my gameplay" I shall deem the whole system p2w". At some point it becomes absurd. Yes, I agree that different people have different playstyles and that money influencing said playstyle could be seen as p2w, but at some point there's gotta be a line drawn. And ...
Post by Ludullu on 2022-08-04 22:27:38
But that's exactly how this sounds to me. Do you like and want every single cosmetic in the shop? Is your goal in the game to acquire every single cosmetic possible? Cause if it's either of those - you've already lost the game, because Intrepid have been selling cosmetics for 5 years and you'll never be able to buy any of them. But if you just want some arbitrary cosmetic in the future, then why are you sure that it's definitely gonna be the one in the shop? Steven has promised that in-game cosmetics will be at the very ...

This is usually seen as "the first cosmetic purchase for a game". And there's countless examples of single player preorders that come with a different skin for your character or a weapon or smth like that. All of those could be seen as "cosmetic shops" for single player games. You pay extra for smth that doesn't influence your gameplay.

So you're just a hypocrite now. Character slots would directly influence my gameplay because I'm planning on having as many valuable characters as I can, and if someone can have more than me because they paid - it's literally p2w. You ask others to see your pov of "cosmetics are p2w to me" but you directly disregard other people's povs. Very nice. And on top of that, I can't pay $20 for a sub, but I can afford $15 (which would probably be euros in EU servers, so it's even worse). So you not only disregard people's povs, but ...

I mean, I've wasted no time here. I've tried properly discussing the topic and gave my best effort to explain the other side's pov (multiple times at this point). I've also laughed at some jokes here and at some dumbassery, so that contributed to the value of the time spent discussing here. But even after my attempts, the only counter argument has been "I think they're p2w and I want the game to be more expensive and have other p2w features instead". I wish this mmo could support itself just off of subs alone, but that will not be ...

And I want to play a genocidal murderer, but the game will stop me from doing so by nerfing my stats to such an extent that I can no longer kill anyone. So playing a role of a genocidal murderer is not an intended way to play the game. Of course I could just use my imagination and pretend that I'm said murderer, but at that point I'm not participating in the game's gameplay, I'm just imagining shit. And one could draw a parallel between that system limitation and a potential limitation of playing as a part of any ...

Ok, so then what if Intrepid has an in-game list of "collectible cosmetics" that does not include a single store cosmetic in it. Would you still consider them p2w? Afaik WoW is still selling box+sub+cosmetics+tokens. And if you wanna say they didn't start out this way, then yeah, they started out 18 damn years ago. Times have changed and the industry has changed with them. Iirc GW2 is selling cosmetics too, and that shit's infamously known as Dressup Wars (or whatever equivalent name for "people measure their dicks in cosmetics rather than anything else). Yet I'm pretty sure that ...

Iridianny is just combining her own gameplay style with the game's intended gameplay, then applies her view of cosmetics empowering her gameplay and produces the result of "store cosmetics can directly influence the gameplay of the game which is why they're p2w". Crow did a good joke about it. For Iridianny, as it seems to me, the visual presentation of her character is the most important part of the game. And any and all activities in the game are (or at least might be) directed at changing/improving said visual. Any other form of gameplay is secondary, which is why ...

I meant that what if Intrepid would have a direct nomenclature of "these are the "true" cosmetics and if you collect them all through in-game means - you've won the "collect all cosmetics in the game" part of the game". Would you see store cosmetics as p2w then? Because at that point you'd be going directly against game's own definition of "winnable part of the game". I mean, they released it because they realized there was money in it. They themselves thought it'd be dumb to release that version because it was "inferior" to the current-at-the-time one. And afaik ...
