Issue with Pre-Order Pack Cosmetics

Post by Ludullu on 2022-08-18 13:41:40

I'm pretty sure you can just buy the mount if you have the pack lvl that has it. And iirc it costs 20 or 25 bucks. As for why it's combined. I see it as the best way to make the skins exclusive, while also making sure that people who play alpha2 have a bigger chance of properly testing it because they invested a ton of money into it. If you had those things separated, waaay more people would would cosmetics and way more people would just come to alpha2 to fuck around. Now, you could argue that "paying ...

Ranks in AoC ( Node ranks, Guild ranks, PvP ranks, PvE ranks )

Post by Ludullu on 2022-08-18 14:08:46

This is what we know about any kinds of "ranks" in Ashes. https://ashesofcreation.wiki/Leader_boards Outside of those, I don't think I'm really interested in any other.

Can you compare moba to mmo pvp?

No.

Is the caravan system even worth it?

Post by Ludullu on 2022-08-19 09:32:21

If Steven didn't copy this part of the system from L2 I'd be somewhat disappointed. Mainly because it brings the biggest abuse of the system and destroys any and all "risk vs reward" part of the encounter. Just getting flagged for getting a person's-worth of resources from killing a mule would give you all the reward with none of the risk. I see no way where killing mules doesn't give you corruption. But on the off chance it doesn't, I'm gonna be PKing every single mule in alpha2 just to show Intrepid that the system is beyond flawed.

Will killing just the mule of a non-combatant player make me corrupted?

Eh, those are the only 2 for you I bet a ton of people will never care to even look them up if Intrepid don't add them to the game. And even if Intrepid do add them, some people will completely ignore them. But if you were talking purely about the top 1% of pve players, then maaaybe those are the only 2. I feel like there'll still be some people up there who won't use them.

Does the counter count all downloads throughout the lifetime of the pluggin or unique downloads per each version? And on the off chance that it is unique per version, how many people are playing ff14 then? I'm not dismissing the possibility that literally 18kk people decided to see their fight stats, but I somehow find it hard to believe that this many people care about it that much, especially in a game like FF14.

I mean, I didn't say that none were interested in it. Just that a ton of people wouldn't care for it. I could easily see a million players throughout ff14's lifetime redownloading that plugging 18 times. But that 1mil would be out of potential dozens of millions in that same time period. Yes, obviously people will care about their dps and deep combat log, but that still doesn't deny the fact that the majority wouldn't care (I mean, potentially). That 160k of MHW is roughly half of its players on steam. And MHW is a game build around complex ...

Imo their main decision would be at the point of choosing whether to even play a game like Ashes. I definitely get your point, but imo it gets absolutely diluted in the overall "issue" of uneven player power in pvp mmos. Which usually is the biggest argument against having owpvp in the first place. There's always gonna be a nerd with more free time than you. There's always gonna be a nerd who delves deeper into the game's mechanics (w/o even considering trackers). There's always gonna be someone who has more friends than you and can bring backup. All ...

We'd need a GW2 "reporter" to tell us about their situation with trackers. That game has big pvp too, so there'd be that aspect present as well. But I don't remember if we have any hardcore GW2ers here.

Yes, we agree here. I personally want a very tight gear balancing, where even if you're a gear tier above me, I could still beat you, especially if RPS supports it. And the skill lvl can contribute the rest. If that lvl comes from studying parsers for weeks on end - I personally don't see any issue with that, because that's the same as a person just playing more (arguably they literally are, if they're spending time on game's parsers). If the game is designed in such a way that there's a single build that can demolish anyone and ...

I don't really care about toxic players using or not using meters as an excuse. I started my argument in this thread from that point mainly because I've mainly heard others complain about toxicity that stems from meters, but, yes you're right, toxic people will be toxic even w/o meters. My biggest point on meters is the increase in content consumption speed. But as we've discussed here already, no matter what Intrepid do, people who will use meters will consume that content as fast as possible either way and will then influence other people who can't yet consume said ...

Oh, the slow players is the least of my worries because they can just go at their own pace w/o any real issues. The main problem is people who already have trackers set up and will pretty much squeeze out all of the fun from the game before it even releases. And they'll mainly be doing that to themselves. I mean, obviously, for them the "squeeze" is the fun, so it's not like they won't have fun in the game overall, but I'm pretty sure they'll have at least a rough understanding of what the "next to best, if ...

Yes, we agree on this, but any hardcore pver won't. Well, at the very least they'll just say that it wouldn't be enough to justify the "<10% clearable content". Which is why we've discussed the contradictions in the design promises. If Steven just wanted us to use the super obvious counters to super obvious bosses, it'd be kinda pointless to say that not everyone will be able to clear some content. Which is why I said that Steven's words is the reason for this looooooong discussion.

My english comprehension isn't enough to properly comprehend that almost triple negative And while yes, there's more options that just "tracker" or "super obvious easy" one, the discussion around dps meters mainly talks about the harder side of pve and especially the "<10% clearable" stuff. In context of any other discussion it might've been way more than just 2 choices, but in context of trackers you either have no use for them or there's potential use for them. Yes, not everyone would even want to use them, but the potential use is still there.

Risk Vs Reward as it relates to a Very Specific type of RNG

Post by Ludullu on 2022-08-20 23:05:00

I'm personally not against these kinds of systems purely because I see them as powerful sinks of whatever resources/money is required. But I can definitely see how I'd be in a super minority when it comes to this pov. I'd probably just increase the "pity" % increase and maybe add another difficult to get item that increases the chance by a fair bit of %. Ideally that item would have several ways of acquiring it (i.e. boss drop, high artisanry, pvp reward, the likes), but all at the same perceived difficulty, so that different people could get it, but ...

Risk Vs Reward as it relates to a Very Specific type of RNG

Post by Ludullu on 2022-08-21 00:27:55

Yeah, if there's no way to trade the needed item it definitely makes the whole situation hurt that much more. But if Ashes had this kind of system and had tradable catalysts for powerups - I'd be fine with it. To me that'd be the same as L2's overenchantment system. Except with OE you even lost your items, while here you're just spending time/money to upgrade smth.

Risk Vs Reward as it relates to a Very Specific type of RNG

Post by Ludullu on 2022-08-21 00:33:29

Unless you make the spawn for the needed item completely random (i.e. it can spawn anywhere in the world), you risk it being farmed by some group of people that then gauge the price so high that it would've been cheaper to play the rng with a higher spawn rate. Though even if you make it truly random, you'd have to have a network of friends in all places of the world that would track the markets daily for the off chance that the item pops up and they'd be able to buy it before the same group from ...

Risk Vs Reward as it relates to a Very Specific type of RNG

Post by Ludullu on 2022-08-21 01:10:40

You can be "rich" in multiple ways. A dude with no friends and no time to make friends in the game would not have the ability to have enough money to buy the item, because w/o friends that dude won't have the ability to track the item before the sharks get it and spike the prices. And the dude can't afford spiked prices because the sharks have a monopoly on the item and have priced it so damn high that one person literally cannot farm that much in a reasonable amount of time. Yeah, the only way to do ...

Risk Vs Reward as it relates to a Very Specific type of RNG

Post by Ludullu on 2022-08-21 01:36:52

I think it's just about the rush you get when you finally succeed. The brain chemistry just yells at you "you've spent insane amount of effort on this thing, so here's all the chemical reward you can get". It doesn't know that the "effort" was pretty much meaningless and the overall process quite negative, but the feeling of success is just that much brighter when you finally achieve the thing you were aiming for. In other words, everyone's a gambler at least to some extent. And all the non-gamblers wouldn't even participate in such games so there's relatively fewer ...

"World Instances"

Post by Ludullu on 2022-08-21 01:43:07

Indeed it is, which is why I'm here spending days discussing this game But the farm itself was always contested by other big guilds or alliances of smaller ones, so you didn't have a moment of "everyone is together and happy and just farming it up". Those small guilds had to choose the "winner" before the boss farm would even begin, because if they didn't collab with the "right' side - they wouldn't get the chance to progress in their quests.

Open world Raid/Boss Possible problems

Now just a quick question. Back in those L2 days, were you always the oldest kid around? Were there only kids playing the game? Because back when I played L2, I was usually the youngest person in my guild. I talked with 40-50y.o. dudes with wives and kids who, yes, played only for 2-3h a day if that, but they enjoyed the game to the fullest and the guild would just get more people who played during a different time to pad out their spawn camping shifts. Yes, you've become old, but instead of being selfish and thinking about ...

There'd have to be a ton of limitations to this feature at which point it wouldn't be much different from just the current system. And if you don't put limitations on it - you have yourself a permanent PKer that's free to abuse anyone and everyone they see.

Open world Raid/Boss Possible problems

Post by Ludullu on 2022-08-21 12:39:21

Nah, the guilds will just get people with staggered playtimes. In L2 you had bosses that had +-5 or more hours, so you could potentially sit there waiting for 10++h for the boss to respawn, yet multiple guilds did just that with several parties at the very least. And with no TP in Ashes, the pressure to always be present at the boss respawn will be even higher. The guild that manages to get enough members to be able to wait for a boss for 10+h, w/o losing the guild's effectiveness for both pve and pvp, will be the ...

Risk Vs Reward as it relates to a Very Specific type of RNG

Post by Ludullu on 2022-08-22 02:09:36

To me this depends on the number of people who has the thing I'm going for relative to the overall number of players on my server. If 1% of players are going for the thing and on average get it on their 10th attempt, I'd be completely fine getting that thing on my 50th attempt, just because I'd still be in the 1% of people with that thing. This has always been my justification for burning dozens of weapons through OE in L2. I spent weeks refarming mats and enchant scrolls just to get a +1 over the majority ...
