I'll certainly accept that being up there on the list, but I don't think those classes (as a Bard myself) can possibly be on the top. We at least have the ability to direct complainers at their competitors and step back if we want to. "Sorry, I either had time to refresh the Mage's mana OR give you an Attack buff in addition to the Accuracy one I was giving you. It's that or drop the Tank's elemental resistance buffs." The inevitable "well obviously you shoulda done that" starts a war I don't have to fight. I don't envy ...

You've never been on the internet if you think a group of people can all look at something and agree what happened. The whole point of the log is so they can put in the work . Otherwise we just get more of "you claiming nobody else knows what they're looking at".

You seem like the sort of person who doesn't have friends, or doesn't talk to them. Information isn't the end of a conversation, it's the start. Strategy and tactics are how you apply what you learned, not 'managing to learn it' in the first place. Information gives you something to talk to your friends about . "How do we approach this challenge?" Guides can't answer that for you in any reasonably deep game. Everyone's party is different, everyone's styles and skillsets are different from their counterparts in the next group over. Maybe you've never played a game that's complex ...

I'm on exactly the same page as @JustVine and @Azherae here. I want to know what abilities people used, and if they're not templated, who they targeted and whether they missed or hit), and how much damage you did. Exactly how you achieved that within your build, etc, I don't need to know. This lets me see the overall flow of battle, which is fundamental to both adaptation and strategy, particularly in post-analysis. (Assuming I'm not expected to be recording every second of gameplay to YouTube - I can just die (or win), go home, and read my scrollback.) ...

Okay, so it can't possibly actually be this bad right? I'm left feeling confused and uncertain. The first thing I felt was "I can't even track this" and "this is a zerg rush...", and nothing really improved from there. I got to see caravan mechanics, and how to pick up loot, but the actual combat was... just flat seeming? I didn't even get the impression it was hard to track because of depth. I'm used to depth. This was just chaos. I think the first thing I saw that really made me 'comment' on the mechanics itself was when ...

How do you feel about the Commissions Preview? It looks about normal to me. This is what I'm used to from other games I play. What excites you about playing and interacting with the Commissions system? The problem that I tend to see in games with this system other than FFXI, ED, TL, is solved easily enough by connecting commissions down through vassal chains and trade relationships, something Ashes is poised to do. In all of these games I have my usual play areas and cycles, but the organizations and game structures will sometimes send me outside of my ...

So much this. Sometimes I fish to take a break from ruling, you know? I don't want to be organizing people (or interrupting my chill every 5 minutes to defend my spot myself). If you don't let me fish to fish , I might as well log out. I'm totally happy to have a 'fishing contest', but if 'me winning that' just means 'PvP time' because my opponent can't win the other way, it's just a PvP game with an 'optional PvE minigame' at the start, and it only makes sense to play when the PvP game is what ...

Sorta half-and-half. Offensive mode? It's on the edge, since it results in "ending my fishing time, if I lose but one contest". Defensive mode? Fine with me. The real problem is that by the time I'm done fishing up that critter, Ashes' 7 second TTK is over and I'm already dead. EDIT: Definitely see-also Azherae's post. If that critter will defend you against a whole party, it'll utterly stomp a single player. (Through either power, or durability. Afaik you gotta choose at least one.)

Which part of 'control the resource' are you not understanding? If we were interested in pure PvP for PvP's sake, we'd go find an arena. More willing participants for even fights. You are takin. Mah fish. You die now.

This isn't a prisoners dilemma though. You don't have a reason to respond with hostility, you'd just get obliterated. They might in fact be friendly. The problem is that not every such group will be friendly, so you don't need to 'get scared', but you will still experience the situation where your PvE activity is taken away from you by a pure-PvP competition that you cannot defend through PvE means.

If Ranger and Fighter can outright fly, I'm going to be REALLY disappointed if I can't fly too, as a Bard. I was honestly not expecting the airdasher style gameplay from an MMO, but you know what, I think I could maybe go for that. I'm not sure that's a good thing for Ashes, though. If anyone (or even most people) can choose to be anywhere, then it doesn't matter where anyone is. I'm worried about Tanks. If a Fighter can just fly over my tank and crash down on my Cleric and Mage, then "If you want to ...

I'm good with it, personally. But I don't like it being mandatory for all content, particularly gathering. Unfortunately, that's the way Steven wants to go. It's just... Am I supposed to ask my group to just hang around and watch me, if their own gathering specialization is different and not applicable to the area? If I don't, getting ganked and robbed is all but guaranteed, tomorrow if not today. If I do, what's the fun part for them ? At the same time, if you make it more efficient, and make it better for bosses, particularly the more interesting ...

Honestly, I had the same feedback. The blood is too much, it's immersion breaking. How did you not bleed out and die after the first attack, at that rate? My requested solution is different though. It's important to keep it noticeable as an indicator of the status effect. Please make it 'mistier' and less dense without reducing its actual size . We don't need a character to drown in the ocean to understand that they're wet.

What's the point? The goal seems to be giving the PvP players an advantage over PvE players in PvE progression for... being PvP players? What does a PvE player get out of this, or is it just a strict disadvantage? I don't really like the idea of "flag up or lose out", personally.

I'm not seeing it. How do I get lowered risk of nonconsentual PvP here? People who want to gank me are not in any way prevented from doing so are they? Maybe they have more other people to fight, but 'lack of consensual PvP options' was never a PvEr's problem. The problem was "gonna get ganked cause somebody else wants your spot or resources". People who want a fair, willing opponent could already find one. This sounds like "consenting to PvP gives you a benefit". Was there another part to this scenario that wasn't in the post? The only ...

'I' for 'Inventory' Alt+i. I never need inventory to be a no-modifiers hotkey. Opening it in combat accidentally is usually annoying, and you shouldn't ever need to do it instantly anyway. (You'd hotbar anything that you need to activate instantly.) But otherwise, yeah. "i"

Phew! No Bard nerfs! The visibility is good. I've explained in the past why this is a significant factor in class balance , but if you keep it at this level you'll definitely be fine. The sky looks amazing ! The rocks look great. Their texture is clear, their shadows look good. The shadows and effects of the lamps on the environment look great. Also, I love the turtle, particularly its bioluminescence. Props to the art and lighting folks! I like that when charging your spells, they spill light on the area around you. I would love to see ...

If you voice them, you need to do a very good job in terms of both expression, flow and pacing. But I don't need you to voice them. I've never had any trouble with FFXI's cutscenes, and they have managed to have a very strong impact when appropriate. Instead, build a bank of very good, reusable music that you can use to set the emotional tone and fit the scene. You're absolutely allowed to reuse these, and in fact doing so wisely helps you increase the emotional impact of your cutscenes overall. You don't need them in small informative-style ...

I'm actually really curious to see how they'll manage to implement Bard in a game with a such a short TTK. In some games it takes almost that long to cast a single buff. I can't imagine being told that I might not even have time for one song before a battle's nearly over, but if Bards don't have a meaningful casting time, what does that look like? Narbash only really has one buff, so he isn't a great example. I'm quite curious to see how the team intends to make Bards effective without relegating us entirely to 'buffbot' ...

Yes, please. Because by implying that they are AI and tech limitations on something that has not only already been done, but that I can do by myself in a week, it is the equivalent of saying that the Intrepid developers are incompetent. You can easily do things like generating a cloud of 'controlled points' to represent what factions (player or otherwise) control a given area, and drop them into a spatial tree data structure (there's plenty) to let you efficiently pull out the nearest marked point to ask things like "who controls the space I'm standing in?" or ...

Can Bards buff friendly or allied NPCs during events?

I'm glad. As a Bard main, I've been waiting for this a long time. I'm not worried anymore. There may be other things I don't like about Ashes of Creation, but Bard is perfect. I appreciate the variation and distinction between the categories: Melodies, Dances, Songs, and Sagas. They provide a good balance of the solid AoE buff foundation that bards require, as well as clear stylistic choices and the ability to play in a more mobile, active style. Sometimes Bard designs can fall into the 'buff bot' trap, but with what you've shown me, I'm not worried about ...

This is probably a good candidate for the choose one of two abilities type thing that they showed us with Crescendo and Counterpoint. I'll personally be choosing the HP one. The ability to trade my HP with another is something I'm really excited for personally. It opens a ton of tactical flexibility and lets me support the cleric by moving their work around for them. There's no less need for the Cleric to heal me, but it lets me give them a little breathing room to do it in. The opposite form where I steal HP from the tank ...

Okay, first of all, WHY is this a one-party event? Especially if it spawns a raid boss at the end (not clear if these were linked). It would be so many times cooler for players if there were several party-scale related quests going on at the same time, so that more people from the node could engage with the story (or even the other 4 parties from your upcoming raid!). Especially since this is the capstone of one of those broader node story arcs. Not only are you asking your raid to stand by while you get the cool ...

It's not like we are all telling Intrepid what to do. If we tell them stuff in advance, 90% of the time, it's just going to be the same thing we were going to tell them when they showed off whatever it was. Classes are about a feeling that a player is looking for when they're trying to play your game. If I want to be a Song Warden, it's only because I think that Song Warden is going to be the thing I want to play. That thing I want to play is already in my mind. Even ...

I think that you can probably make a reasonable game with 20 hotbar slots, 12-15 of which are commonly used. Realistically this is a question of what type of game you're going to make and how you're going to structure your combat and character growth. As you mentioned, there are solid games with Basic+3+Ult. I don't know of any Basic+3+Ult MMOs however, and I feel like a MMO absolutely needs more than this simply because they want to vary the combat experience through diverse bosses and experiences in PvE. MOBAs and Battle Royales specifically do not do this. They ...

Well that's unfortunate. You seem to have missed my point entirely. I don't "get bored" because I have less abilities. I get bored because I have no applicable abilities. If every Bard ability applies to every situation, you've made a mindless rotational buffbot, or you didn't make a Bard in the first place.
