Possible Caravan Attack Workaround?

Post by SongRune on 2022-08-14 01:43:23

I'll be Empyrean. Py'rai was high in the running before we saw the designs, but I'm not the sort for antlers, so alas. I'll manage with Empyrean architectural influences, and the "high elf" aesthetic suits me fine as well.

Lock Should be Available, but Houses Should Default to Public-Access....

Honestly, I just want to get ideas for styles, and how spaces can look. Particularly with instanced player apartments when I could easily own the same space. It's valuable for inspiration, as well as "see what you're about to buy".

Well, do be sure to give your feedback in the appropriate thread. There should be one of those (former) sticky "[Player Feedback Request]" threads for Py'rai.

I'd absolutely take it. I want a subtle, not a "beaming" effect though. Same with luminous hair.

DPS Meter Megathread

You're just asking me to do useless busywork. I need to decide whether my buffs are what my team needs or not. I have DECISIONS to make. When I know how much my team is missing the enemy, and how much damage my Tank is taking, I can START to play the game. I'm here to make decisions, not do arithmetic.

There aren't. But 'non code guys' can be told there are. That's what happens in FFXIV. I want you to have access to trackers, not just me and Noaani.

System for Bounty Hunters to Return Stolen Goods

Except that Mr Goodly doesn't know whether the items came from Mr. Green or Mr. Lime. He just followed the "Corrupted Player" map marker he got as a Bounty Hunter from a nearby military node. Sure Mr. Green can tell him they're his. But so can Mr. Lime. More than that? They could both be right. Mr. Red has many victims.

Why would I want to always sit in town? What do I need gear for, then? I want to raid. Who cares about levels? I'm here for experiences, not for numbers. Trackers exist to help me do what I enjoy. I'm here to play.

System for Bounty Hunters to Return Stolen Goods

Some people are just Lawful Good or Lawful Blue. I don't know how much I'll bounty hunt yet, but I'm certainly the sort of person who would. I'm not there to make money. I'm there to have fights with serious players. The money's a nice benefit, but I'm still often (but not always) closer to being "there to bring justice". Besides, returning the items is a great way to get called when there are reds about, which is a pure benefit to me. And returning the items to the wrong person because I've been lied to is a great ...

Regardless of whether this is a good or bad idea from Intrepid's point of view, I have one question for you, @Murgo : If those videos said "Sponsored by Intrepid Studios" at the end, would you still feel reassured by his approach, and lead to trust the game's development? Or would the "indicator of monetary bias" negatively affect your perception of Narc's trustworthyness? Depending on how that sort of thing affects his audience (I'm not familiar), it may be that regardless of how it affects Intrepid, this could be at least slightly bad for Narc.

This is your friendly neighborhood reminder that players will not earn corruption for attacking a caravan: (ref: Caravan PVP ) Even if you're focused on players who are going to pick up items and try to run off, and then the attackers will kill them to get their stuff, even if we assume the PvP zone ends early those BH would be better off defending in the first place. They'd get rewarded even if the attackers failed. The attackers will be prepared for the "after party" either way, if they're not totally inexperienced and incompetent. Post-caravan looting is specifically ...

With no prejudice to anything else you've written, here's a concept for "how people think that": Punishment is never "reparations". Those are separate concepts in legal systems for a reason. The punishment you inflict by turning them corrupt is the vindictive payback of "Fuck you. You wanna kill me? I may not be able to beat you, but I can get your ass killed by some professional red hunters." Reparations are not offered by the system, for better or for worse, and that's intended. Steven wants you to have to fight for your resources back. The other important thing ...

Intrepid is already working on setting up a Content Creator Program, which offers many various benefits to content creators like Narc. All he has to do is submit a form saying "hey, I'm a content creator! hook me up!". (ref: Official Content Creator Program ) They've already received almost more applications than can handle and were looking at adding a staff member specifically to manage this program a while back. They're still working on getting it off the ground last I heard, but Intrepid is definitely doing their part. If you think Narc isn't aware of it through his ...

Quest dialogs

Post by SongRune on 2022-08-21 16:57:59

I want NPC dialog, shared as dialog, in the sort of pacing dialog would have. I don't need it read out to me. "Slow-typing" is almost always annoying, but clicking through lines at my own pace feels natural. I don't care if there's a "skip" button for those who want it, as long as it's not easy to accidentally hit. I dislike the "NPC handed you a piece of paper with their story and request written on it" style of dialog and requests. It reduces my immersion, and nudges my brain to go "Oh! Next thing! Time to go!", ...

DPS Meter Megathread

It's not, for a slightly subtle reason: It is impossible on a technical level to detect combat trackers. They don't even need to run on the same computer as the game client. You'd have to ban streaming. The discussion isn't so much "will Intrepid allow add-ons or not", it's "Do you prefer that combat trackers are available only to the elite who will ignore your rules, or do you prefer that they are available to everyone?" You don't need to worry that banning trackers will prevent elitism. It won't. It will just give other players less tools to help ...

DPS Meter Megathread

Post by SongRune on 2022-08-23 03:54:52

Maybe in some games it's that straightforward. But if the reason is that the Healer had to heal the Summoner because a Summon fell at the wrong time, and they took an extra hit before they could resummon it due to ability cooldowns, and in that time the boss used a CC ability on the DPS which needed to be cleansed afterward. Then you the Tank took a decent hit but the big heal wasn't off cooldown yet so you used your own, at which point the Healer didn't need to heal you right away, and could prioritize other ...

InGame Marriage Benefits

Post by SongRune on 2022-08-23 12:31:30

Why? I'm married irl. Is it creepy to check the box in-game? I moreso hope Intrepid won't make me make it a big huge "newlyweds" production to marry my spouse of many years.

InGame Marriage Benefits

(ref: Marriage ) There doesn't appear to be any shared inventory necessarily, unless something comes out of the freehold system, but I believe you can arrange that without marriage, according to Freehold Security . (ref: Family Summon ) You can't teleport if you have any such materials in your inventory. They thought of this. There may be other flaws with this system, but that's not one of them. Doesn't. See Fast Travel for more. Personally, I like a system in which there is little to no mechanical incentive, and what there is, if any, is around sharing things. Faster ...

Incorrect Distance Information on Stream

Post by SongRune on 2022-08-26 20:49:58

It's possible that mounts travel differently in different terrain. That nodes would have few direct obstacles, and your mounts wouldn't need to take the long way around in certain places. Maybe in a node you're using a mount suited to the terrain of the region, but to cross the continent you'd have to travel through areas your mount wasn't specialized to. There are so many things that can affect these general estimates , that I think the level of inconsistency you described is not meaningful to consider. We just haven't been given exact data, nor do I think anyone ...

Should the Mayor get a salary?

Post by SongRune on 2022-08-27 00:05:35

That's Kings/Queens. You don't get a flying mount for being a node mayor, you need to rule a castle (or metropolis?). That said: You don't want the sort of mayor who's there for the salary. There's a ton of benefit to building a strong node (particularly to your personal specifications). Use that incentive. You want the mayor's incentives to be aligned with the citizens, or things will go terribly wrong.
