Removing the economy from a game is the most phyrric of victories over botters. There are many other solutions to bots, all of them imperfect, and few of them as disastrous. I would wager that you would find that almost everyone you will meet here is more willing to accept imperfect solutions that let some bots through, than the loss of a robust player-driven economy. If you have a central market that adapts properly to demand (which BDO's does not), you will not defeat bots. The design of Ashes and separation of nodes and the core design premise of ...

Bard Suggestion

I'm all for interesting ways to learn songs, particularly related to exploring the world in some regard. But don't make it significantly harder than it is for other classes to learn their own abilities.

Jail and bounty hunter as punishment for corrupted players

As someone who's written bots before: Waste of time. No bot I'dve written is gonna have trouble with any reasonable task you request short of actual captchas and even those aren't exactly perfect. As a player who's paid the slightest modicum of attention to New World, and the whole "report-spam the enemy guild right before the battle"? This is just gonna get triggered at critical moments. Three people reporting your main tank, as their guild mates close in to steal your raid boss? It doesn't even matter if your tank can complete the task. At the end of the ...

Which Artisan Classes interests you the most?

You'll find me as a Master Carpenter, with a side of Fishing, and maybe dabbling occasionally in Taming or Husbandry, but probably not seriously.. I may do a bit of Alchemy as well, and the various construction professions (Siege, Ship, Caravan) are going to mainly depend on exactly what they're like.

I wouldn't worry in this case. It doesn't take hundreds of hours to understand BDO. Getting to high level, and understanding how your class both works and feels takes only a few hours. Certainly less than a weekend. The rest of those hours are perfecting your execution, timing, and reactions. Will you be able to fight everything day 1? Not a chance. But understanding your class and general gameplay is a rather achievable goal.

Tracking Personal Items

Post by SongRune on 2022-07-23 23:08:07

I want this. But more than just being able to view my various node and freehold storages remotely, I want something more: Item Search. In FFXI there is a command: /itemsearch "Ebony Log" This command will list for me all of the storages that a particular item is in. I can't tell you how often, in BDO, I'm wondering where on earth I left my stack of this one random item that I don't use frequently. I can look at remote storages in BDO from the world map, but manually digging through 20-30 different nodes' storages to find where ...

Vaporware ala Chronicles of Elyria?

Post by SongRune on 2022-07-24 18:07:50

lol. That said, someone who hasn't checked in in 2-3 years might not be aware of all of these things, so, to be clear: Nerror's point is that we have had all of these things. MMO development often takes 6-8 years, and we have no particularly strong signs that Ashes will be vaporware.

Post by SongRune on 2022-08-01 01:27:24

It's not a great fix. You can loot arrows if... - You're not in a Siege where you don't have time to do so safely. - You're not defending a caravan that's continuing to move along as you fight, leaving the corpses far behind by the time you can safely loot them. - You're not in a raid with relatively fewer adds to loot from. - You don't get unlucky with your loot quantity over time and gain less than you spend. In these or many other possible cases, you have to pay money to use your basic attack. ...

So you should need ammunition. But you should be able to craft it in battle. And it shouldn't have a meaningful cost. And you should be able to normally never run out. Forgive me, but... why?

Falconer Class

Post by SongRune on 2022-08-01 02:10:56

Perhaps you would be more interested in a Falcon themed Beastmaster (Summoner/Ranger), rather than a Ranger primary archetype. Having a falcon as a pet option for Summoner/Ranger sounds suitable thematically. I don't think we know a lot about exactly how summoners pets/summons will be themed, yet, but I do hope this is an option Intrepid will allow.

Dynamic Armor Appearance

Post by SongRune on 2022-08-02 00:02:27

I like the idea of having my armor adjust a bit to match the season, though it would be important to preserve the thematic throughout, so I don't hate the appearance randomly through half the year. I will say that I dislike how raggedy my armor gets in BDO when it's out of repair. I can definitely see the appeal of a little wear and tear, but I definitely would personally strongly dislike if it's serious. Maybe there can be a setting? Seems kindof finicky for a setting though. Hopefully good taste will solve both our problems.

More seriously, you can change your path if you need to. The first few years are getting general requirements covered and gaining the foundations of your planned path. You'll be able to find out how you so with biology, chemistry, etc, as well as the rigor of pre-medical studies, and still be able to pivot to something else related (or less related) instead. Even if you make it through your entire undergraduate degree, but find medical school itself too hard afterward, you'll still have that degree, which will qualify you for various related fields. By that point you'll also ...

Progression Speed - Gear

Post by SongRune on 2022-08-04 14:26:40

I would find it much less immersive to start with a meaningfully different weapon type than I intended to use long term. Different types of weapons have very different weight balances and fighting styles. If you're going to fight with a greatsword, you need to train with something of at least similar size and style. I'm all for starting with a dull, rusty old hand-me-down, but it would be unimmersive not to start early with a similar sized weapon that you swing in a similar way, no matter how large that may be for some people.

In Alpha 1, we used WASD to walk forward, backward, and strafe sideways. We used the mouse to change the direction we were facing. Basically the standard configuration for mouse & keyboard games. There is no current plan for controller support .

Post by SongRune on 2022-08-06 03:03:36

You know... "There's no way they'll actually do that" -> "Proof they'll actually do that." -> [Silence], really has nothing to do with anyone saying "They shouldn't do that." It's a pretty bold assumption to say he doesn't want them to, instead of "He really wants them to, but doesn't believe they'd agree."

Character creator site idea

Post by SongRune on 2022-08-12 19:33:55

I can't really imagine using it myself, but particularly with all the customization present in Tulnar, it would probably be good to have an official method of sharing character creator "presets" with others. Maybe with a "secret code" vs publically shared option. I'd never want to look exactly like someone else, but it'd be useful for Tulnar "family members" to be able to start from the same "racial template" their family head designed, then add a few tweaks of their own.

What Utility Magic Skills do you want to see?

Post by SongRune on 2022-08-13 15:21:39

It's important to remember that utility magic can't give a strong advantage to any particular class outside of a group setting. If a Mage can cast "Rain", all the top farmers will be Mages, and the Fighters of the world will have to level Mage in order to compete at the higher levels of farming. What I'd like to see is group synergy utility spells, like Tractor from FFXI, which allows a specific Mage class to drag/teleport the corpses of allies out of dangerous positions so they can be resurrected safely by another. Spells like these improve the capabilities ...

Calling all Py’rai!

Post by SongRune on 2022-08-13 15:25:53

Wait, we know which races starting areas are which? Do you have a source for that? I'd love to learn more. Edit: After a brief wiki dig, I find that it is not possible for players to start at either of the locations you have selected. (ref: Divine Gateways ) While those two circled diamonds are in fact "starting settlements for returning races", players will start only at the nearby circle. I only see one such circle, so it would appear that both Empyrean and Py'rai players would have to start in the same location, and walk to the ...

Siege Testing

Post by SongRune on 2022-08-13 16:00:11

As an Alpha 1 tester: The last NDA I was bound by was the one during Alpha 1 spot testing that Steven released us from. The "Alpha 1" group has not seen any testing or any announcements related to future testing that haven't been shared with the general public since the same Alpha 1 testing you're already aware of. In this case, no news does in fact mean no news. Any ongoing testing is on a smaller, more limited scale that us Alpha 1 testers have not been informed about or invited to. (And I can say all of ...

Possible Caravan Attack Workaround?

Post by SongRune on 2022-08-14 00:22:23

It's rather unlikely that you can pick up the entire dropped contents of the caravan instantly at once. Your allied player would get some, but certainly not all. I also find it unlikely, personally, that the caravan open PvP zone will end instantly when a caravan is destroyed, vs remaining for a bit while loot is divvied up. It would seem to go against the risk vs reward design Steven intends for looting the caravan afterward to just be entirely safe and free.

Viability of Single Race Guilds?

Post by SongRune on 2022-08-14 00:40:42

Ultimately, there are only two questions: 1. Are there going be enough top level Empyrean (if you prefer) players to form a guild out of? This is almost assuredly true. If there aren't, it more so implies that there will have to be less top guilds than there are races, simply for lack of players. Improbable. 2. Is the game going to be balanced so that there is no valid strategy that doesn't require varied racial perks? Honestly? We don't technically know, but as far as I'm aware, Intrepid has never mentioned that this was one of their goals ...

Possible Caravan Attack Workaround?

Post by SongRune on 2022-08-14 00:53:54

You misunderstood me a bit. He's agreeing with me exactly. I believe that looting the caravan will not be safe and free, and keeping the PvP zone active during that phase would cause exactly that. It would require safe and free looting for your workaround to function. No-one is going to go loot a caravan alone. If your allies had enough power to defend the caravan, you'd do far better to have them do that. If they can't stand up to the attackers, the attacking party or guild will probably just kill their own competition as well. This sort ...

Possible Caravan Attack Workaround?

Post by SongRune on 2022-08-14 01:11:11

Only if their friends on standby can kill the attackers and take their loot before the attackers (who are now the defenders of the looting area) can haul it off themselves. If they can? That's exactly the kind of conflict Ashes intends to promote, and it's a risk the attackers will consider when planning their assault. Yep! And that's probably completely intentional. Such is the risk/reward. If you can take the caravan, but can't get away with the loot you earned, you should think twice about attacking with "followers" nearby. Probably not. There might be an incentive to spend ...

Possible Caravan Attack Workaround?
