Diversity and uncertainty in mob interaction

I kinda expected that already. Just seems like something that any decent mmo should have.

I'm just curious, what would you want as that "incentive"?

Pretty much what George said. The loot is literally the smallest incentive in the system.

CORRUPTION/OUTDOOR SYSTEM/PVP

Oh, you're completely free to express your opinion on the game's systems. But Intrepid have said that being corrupted is not a viable gameplay style and the system, while allowing PKing here and there, exists to prevent genocidal tendencies that a lot of players like you (and me btw) have. So if you w/o consequences, then the game is not for you, because the game's core design is risk vs reward. And with higher rewards for killing a green player, the risk must also be higher. There's gonna be a ton of ways to kill people w/o getting corruption, ...

Again though, they prevent you from killing people who are literally not fighting back. No one is stopping you from participating in several different proper pvp encounters. Intrepid just wants to stop those who think that they should be able to kill whoever they want w/o consequences. If you like and understand the risk part of the design, I don't understand why you're against harsher punishments for those who kill passive players who don't want to fight back.

Like I said several times, the developer is limiting the amount of pacifist people you can kill. The system is there to literally let you kill people when you want. But it doesn't let you just kill however many people you want. The effectiveness of your stats and equipment would go down if you die too, not just due to corruption. And they will only go down due to corruption if you gain a shitton of it, so, yet again, the system is trying to prevent you from genociding innocence. Yet again, as I said several times, there's several ...

Lack of mobility with excellent defence or great mobility with ranged attacks

Post by Ludullu on 2022-12-31 17:00:09

All sides have some mobility and counters to it (some classes more some less) and a good range of defense on some gear, but you'd lose out on some other stat.

They aren't though. "Enemy" means that you're at war with them, which means that you don't get corruption for killing them. And Intrepid doesn't want you killing anyone you want as much as you want. Which is why I said that the game is not for you, just as it is not for people who don't want to ever be killed in the game. This is literally the case in the current system. You can PK people and BHs will go hunt you down. Except the game doesn't allow you to do this for days on end, because corruption ...

Somehow that sounds really Dunning-Krugeristic. I've seen way too many people who "knew the design perfectly", yet then failed to explain it properly on several occasions. But on the off chance that you do in fact understand it, if you're such a good pvper that you're ready to fight anyone, why do you even care about the corrupted death penalty? If you never die to BHs - you'll never suffer the penalties. And you'll just need to avoid the stronger green players while you grind off your corruption. Seems like an easy life for a good pvper.

So that going Red is a rare enough occurrence that most pacifistic players feel safe enough to play the game for a long time. This would not only bring more money for Intrepid, but would also make the game a much better mmo, because pretty much every single mmo where you can kill anyone and everyone as much as you want becomes a 1-2k-player swamp or changes into an instanced-based game within a few updates.

Especially when in the context of a PK your victim doesn't fight back, which means that you could use any kind of shitty gear to kill them. At which point even one good PK could provide you with a huge profit over what you spent on that kill. Yet another example of risk/reward. You risk losing in pvp if your target fights back and has better gear, but you stand to gain much more if they don't.

PVP , will fight or die be our only choices?

https://ashesofcreation.wiki/Mounted_combat Some crowd-control abilities can dismount a mounted player.[7] In that case the mount would persist with its own health pool and other stats.[8] So not just taking damage. And CCs don't work on greens, so they can get away easily. And for the flagged people trying to run away, we'll just have to see what kind of CD those CCs have and what kind of range/cast speed too. And if it's a long range low cd fast cast speed ability - it'll just be added to the equation of "do I want to flag against this attacker(s)?"

I'd really like them not to be, cause otherwise they just seem like a pointless addition to the system, especially considering that they supposed to have a progression path within their own subsystem.

Yep. I really wish Intrepid settles on a system that satisfies everyone in this equation. PKers can kill more often, BHs always have someone to hunt because of that and green victims get their "time" back with the help of BHs. I really feel like that would be the best compromise for this kind of system.

And I'm almost sure that there'll be a few freeholds that have the same kind of interaction (considering that you can't be attacked on your freehold). L2's cities let you do way less stuff than the freeholds will, so those who stayed within them not participating in any other content barely did anything else (mainly trading and crafting, if they were supported by farmers). So Ashes is already providing a much broader choice of content that you can participate in w/o even walking outside of a particular location. This is already the case with the open seas and node ...

Post by Ludullu on 2023-01-01 14:52:33

There's a difference between a player who comes here to enjoy the game for what it is and someone who wants to change it drastically. Imo both "add way more instanced content and also remove owpvp" and "remove harsh penalties on corruption or the corruption system itself" are too big of a change to the core principles of the game. As Steven said in the video I posted, he has a vision for his game and that vision won't suit every player out there. And that vision has barely changed since the start of the development (though those god ...

Post by Ludullu on 2023-01-01 17:32:24

Nope, I'd hate that. It not only removes 99.9% of non-event-based owpvp, but also removes a system that I think has great potential for both pvp and socialization. Just anything that the green player drops, but it wouldn't autostack with other similar resources in the Red's inventory and they'd definitely drop from the Red if the BH kills them. Ideally they wouldn't drop if greens kill the Red, but there's a ton of abuse potential with that kind of mechanic, so it would have to be tested and addressed properly, but I do think that with a proper design ...

Yeah, it was mostly an in-joke, but with a hint of truth to it, which I explained in my response to Coracao. I definitely generalized the OP there, but it's hard not to do that after so many similar threads where the OP never backs down and sometimes even sticks around as a semi-troll. And explaining the whole concept of the game each time a thread like this pops up is a bit tedious, so it's easier to disregard the OP with one post and then if they explain their position better or indicate attempts of trying to understand ...

I come from a pvp game where you knew exactly how to counter every single set out there, because you had to and because they all looked unique on each different race/sex/class of characters. And it also had the same flagging/corruption system as Ashes will. And when you saw someone running towards you, you could tell at a glance what their rough powerlvl was, so you'd also know how you'd measure up to them if they were to attack you. And sometimes you'd make the first attack purely to ward them off of you and make them run past ...

EZ fix. You don't return the stuff you got from the PK - you lose the BH status. It could be just after one failed return or several, but still. This is just our difference in what we want from this system. I want BHs to be the proper white knights for the greens. If we assume some "sheriff" that gives out those bounties, all you need to do to justify the system I suggested would be just saying "the sheriff won't pay you unless you return the loots, because it's the loot of the people that pay his ...
