We don't know the full extent of crafting freedom, but yeah that could be a point towards transmog. And as for abilities and augments, I'm almost sure that there'll be certain gear that works best with particular builds. At which point it'd be about your knowledge of builds and combinations that would give you the upper hand. And unless a crafter can change literally the entire stat/effect side of any given piece of gear - you'll still have most likely builds when you see some gear pieces/sets. But at that stage, what is even the point of transmog if ...

And again, we just disagree on that particular point. The main purpose of having fewer PKers is to provide a better gaming scene for the greens. But if you can counteract the PKers' influence on greens, you can potentially have more PKers in the game w/o completely ruining it for the greens. And I personally think that this can be achieved with the help of BHs.

If you've received an item to enable its transmog, then you can probably get it through crafting already (that is, you have the means to get it). And I think it'd be beneficial for the game to socialize people through the crafting process (kinda already the case), so if you can get your preferred item and you have the connections with crafters that could make this item have the stats you want - why not do that? I guess there's the case of someone liking a low lvl item visual instead of literally all high lvl items, but I ...

But you can still lose the resources in your storage through node sieges, so there's really no differentiation there. Which is why I think that as soon as you gather/pick up some resource - it's yours until taken or traded away. I think it's about the value of time more so than the value of the resources themselves. Or, well, at least that's how I see it. If I spent an hour or two farming some juicy location deep in a dungeon (be it mobs or rare gatherables there) and then I get PKed and lose a big chunk ...

While that is true, Ashes also has a ton of pvp in it and in pvp those transmogs stand in the way of both you and your opponent knowing each other's power before the fight even starts. I'd be totally fine if any pvp event (or system) automatically showed the true gear of the participant. So if I'm out and about and see a dude from a warring guild - I'd see his real gear. I feel like this would be a great compromise, though I dunno if this is doable tech-wise.

Post by Ludullu on 2023-01-02 16:59:16

As others already said, every pvp event or system in Ashes is an opt-in one, while PKing is a forced one. But Steven wants to let people kill each other whenever they want, which is why we have the corruption system. But in order to avoid forced genocide the corruption system has additional punishments for the killer. Again though, we currently don't know how quickly your stats will start dampening when you gain corruption. If it takes 10 kills of equally-lvled people to start feeling the effects of the corruption stat dampening - I'd say that's more than fair. ...

Unless Intrepid goes the way of the NW or does something directly opposite and designs smth that I don't think I've ever heard of in mmos - mobs won't just change their powerlvl out of the blue. But people will. Back in L2 I'd fight with the same people across the entire character progression from low lvls to the high ones. And when I saw my opponent wearing some new piece of gear I knew the fight would be harder, but I also got the desire to catch up to them faster. With mobs, you'll just fight a mob ...

All the anti-cheats hardly work. New World is full of dupes and hacks. How will AoC be different?

Post by Ludullu on 2023-01-02 17:15:18

If you're gonna be a part of alpha2 - go find as many dupes as possible and report them. And if enough people do that - that's one problem down (at least somewhat). As for bots, there'll be live GMs that will try and ban as many bots as possible. And I hope we, as players, will have good tools to report those bots. There's also the owpvp, so if you see someone who you think is really a bot - just kill them. You'll need to convince other people that your corruption came from a bot, but that's ...

Again, attacking a node in a war or a siege is an opt-in system for both sides. You have to take particular actions in order to do that and your enemies have the freedom to move to another node and exit the war/siege. When you just kill another green player that didn't fight back - you should be punished. When you kill several such greens - you should be punished even more. And if there's several players across the server that are all killing several greens who don't fight back - that's the genocide. If corruption has weak punishments ...

It's about gambling vs measured risk. Not knowing your opponent's power and still fighting them is a gamble. Knowing it and then deciding to fight them, even if they're stronger, is a measured risk. And to me a gamble is the shittiest form of risk-taking.

This would obviously have to be tested. I would personally tweak the amount of corruption gained and corruption lost relative to XP gained. And then counterbalance that against the common distance between any given mob and the nearest node center. And if the design of how the bounties get given out (if I understand it correctly that is) remains the same, then BHs would have to get their targets at a tavern or a certain NPC only in a lvl4 military node. At which point there's definitely some amount of distance that a BH would have to travel from ...

It's not about appeasement, it's about the system itself promoting help to others rather than just being a basic bitch system that only promotes killing. You still get the thrill and you still get to fight and even compete against other BHs for the kill, but on top of all that you also get to help others.

Like I said in my answer to Dygz, I'd be totally fine if transmogs were turned off only to pvp event enemies. This way owpvp would still be gambley and all the RPs can just run in their transmogs. I think it was in this thread, but I already addressed this too. There'll be some general meta, so if you know those trends you'd be able to at least suppose someone's build just from their gear. And that's if Intrepid don't just make unique gear visuals across races/archetypes (class ones would probably be taking it too far), at which ...

And I addressed this before too. All it takes to justify what I'm suggesting is saying in lore that BHs can only operate because those "freeloaders" pay your "salaries". And if you don't return their stuff - you're a shitty BH who doesn't deserve the rewards related to that job. It's not like only BHs can kill a red. I'm sure that green victims will just yell in chat "there's a Red in this location", so if you're just running somewhere close as a random dude - you're always free to just go kill the Red and get all ...

Addressed this already too. If crafters can in fact just give any piece of gear any kind of stat or effect instead of just tweaking the base ones a bit - why not just use your preferred gear as your main one? Transmogs mean that you've already achieved that piece of gear, right? So just go get it again through a crafter who'll tune it to your build.

Yeah, except there will definitely be way more of those greens than the pvpers and most definitely more than of the BHs. So, if anything, we're the freeloaders. We need them to support the game in a big enough quantity so that we could just go kill each other for fun. Which is why I think that a single mechanic that supports them would be nice. And again, I'm talking about this mechanic in the context of more frequent PKs, so even those greens do just never fight - they'll still die somewhat often.

This seems to imply that you can use cosmetics as "transmogs" https://ashesofcreation.wiki/Appearance_slots Gear will have appearance slots (Transmutation/Transmog/cosmetic slots) that are used to copy the appearance of an item (in some cases).[1][2] There are rules when applying cosmetics to specific items, unlike costumes, which don't have level restrictions.[3]

Pretty much all of those are just pvp encounters, which makes them the main pvp content of the game, so while, yes, they do support greens in a way, they're mainly pvpers' domain. The only ones who "earned" them are the greens themselves. The red then stole them through a forced kill and the BH then used that forced kill for their own benefit (double btw, if you don't return the resources). That's like saying "well I stole this money from another robber, so I definitely earned this money". Though if you do think that, well then we just ...

Healers/supports will get flagged for helping the corrupted player (that is if that support will remain available in the game). And you can't CC a green player, so your only option is to damage them, but you can't see their precise HP values, so you might accidentally kill them and become corrupted. Though I think Steven mentioned repeated actions of this sort to be considered griefing (I thiiiink).

The only case where the party might fight you back immediately (even if they're on the more pacifist side) is if they're not engaged in any other kind of content. But if they're in a group - they're probably involved in exactly that content, because them being in a group would suggest them needing to be in a group. And at that point, you, as a single player, can completely disrupt their content by killing just a single player in that group. And yeah, in the context of max lvl characters, I'm sure there'll be enough vertical progression space ...

Potential Tool for players to use against BOTs????

Post by Ludullu on 2023-01-02 22:27:21

The obviously exploit of this is alt chars who are not in a guild. Solution to that is linking the entire account to the guild ID, but then what about alt chars in different guilds? About the quantity and speed of reports against a single target, it's kinda difficult to balance that. Bots will most likely exist in less popular places to be more safe. If it's such an unpopular place that you only have 10-20 people a day there - that means that the bot gets to farm that location for a day. But as you said, just ...

Say the red loots 10 branches off a green who had 20 (assuming 50% drop rates). The red would now have to drop 40 branches which they don't have, so they just drop the 10 that they got from the green. If we get much lower drop rates, then I definitely want way more PKing in the game, cause the price for it would be utterly negligible for the green. That's the difference in our definitions of pvp. For me, pvp is two people fighting each other. And PKing is one dude hitting a wall until it crumbles. Yes, ...

Well Solvryn pretty much explained what I was about to say, because I've described my suggestion before in other threads. The loot would be marked with the victim's name and would be returned to the green through the BH system. All the BH would have to do is to kill the PKer and give the marked loot to an NPC at a node. Btw, the PKer would still drop their own loot too and obviously that remains with the BH. All I want is to only the victim's stuff to be returned to them. As for the factories, yes ...

Do you mean certificates? Cause I include those in the "resources". Just anything that drops from a person is their resource. I should've made that more clear. The loss for the green player is time out of his preferred content. Especially if that green was farming mobs in a lucrative (at least relative to the green themselves) location. That green player might've lost their farming location because they vacated it through death and now they might have to lose even more time because they need to move to a whole different location. The BH not only partook in their ...
