Got it. Hope this kind of approach doesn't destroy the game in the long run.

I mean, I'd assume the game already tracks account IDs (or some such thing) that then relate to specific chars on said account. Adding a guild ID on top of that shouldn't be a problem I think (if that's not the case already). And in the same vein, I'd assume that the report system tracks who reports who, not only for ease of backtracking by GMs, but for logging history too. So in theory Intrepid should already have everything they need for this type of system. Well, that is if my assumptions are correct.

Pretty sure you're talking about the action camera mode, so yes, Ashes will let you do that https://ashesofcreation.wiki/Combat_targeting

Yep, and this is exactly what I was talking about. Even if the attacker dies (and especially if they take one group member down with them) - that's a huge disruption. And for the attacker themselves - that's just content. They'll respawn and come back to do the same thing again, especially if the group fought back and the attacker didn't get corruption. But I'm pretty sure this will be a somewhat common occurrence, so some players will definitely get filtered out because of it.

But like you like to say yourself, players are much more kill-hungry than mobs. A green player can just run away from a mob if they think the mob will kill them. But running away from a PKer would be more difficult, especially if the PKer attacked while the green was preoccupied with other content. And if corrupted are meant to just be treated as mobs - why da hell is there a BH system? Any player can just go kill mobs and get the reward from them, so why do we need a whole separate system that, for ...
Post by Ludullu on 2023-01-03 18:20:23
As I've said before, my suggestion only works (at least as I see it) if the corruption gain values are somewhat low. So that BH would only kill the PKer once before the corruption goes away. It would just be "a single kill = whatever the PKer drops of their own stuff + the system reward for getting the bounty". A few minutes of "work" (not really, because it's pvp which is exactly the content BHs would be looking for) for a potentially substantial reward (not even counting the gear that could drop). And with more people feeling better ...

And this is why I'm gonna be giving a ton of feedback "to prevent party/guild/alliance/raid-mates and people on your friend list from killing you if you're red". They already can't flag on you, so why should they be able to kill you? This is one of the biggest exploits in the system, so I hope that Intrepid has already changed that and just haven't told us. BH flag only against the PKer, so PKer's friends would have to go red themselves if they wanted to help. So while it is possible that they'll try and help somehow, the BH ...

The reward will come from the BH system itself. Now we'll obviously have to learn what those are, but still. Yes
Post by Ludullu on 2023-01-03 19:52:19
I'm assuming by "pvp attacks" you mean that you're getting killed, right? Cause unless Intrepid change the system to "attacks build corruption or up to corruption", you might get prodded by some jerks on semi-regular basis, just as you would sometimes get agro from mobs.

Yeah, it's all same old, same old. Until, at the very least, alpha2 we can only really go in circles discussing the same stuff in the same way. And we won't know how many players the game will really push away with whatever design it decides to go with until we hit release.

I like morphing as long as the base forms are easily accessible and the best ones are not p2w (100% will be though).

I want slow enough gear acquisition to prevent the majority of players from just getting full BiS in a month or so. That, coupled with all the pvp content in the game, and a deep enough support for RP should support the game for years to come. Obviously there's gonna be expansions, which will most likely support that slow gear grind upwards, but that's a discussion for a much later date.
Post by Ludullu on 2023-01-03 21:07:44
You can't buy gear if there's not enough gear to go around. And I want that to be the case
Post by Ludullu on 2023-01-03 21:12:04
Like Azherae said, you literally can't buy what isn't there. If there's only 5 pieces of any given BiS gear on the server - 100 people can't "just buy" more. And if the top people are greedy enough (usually are), then those 5 pieces will put a tax on any incoming mats, because they need repair.
Post by Ludullu on 2023-01-03 21:24:45
Yes, and a gear piece might need 15 of those items and the boss that has a 7-day respawn only gives one. There you have yourself a 15-week craft of a single piece of gear. Now even I'd say that this is a bit too long, but that's roughly along the lines of what I'm talking about.
Post by Ludullu on 2023-01-03 21:47:38
That was just an example. My point was to just keep the inflow of mats on the slower side rather than the classic instanced mmo speed of "whoever the fuck wants it gets it asap".

I think all the bicycles of the genre have been reinvented already. Not much you can come up with outside of bosses/quests/pvp.

This is like trying heroin and then saying "but what if there's something even cooler"? Unless Intrepid are about to drop fucking SAO on us - there's not gonna be content that's somehow better than 20+ years of attempts at, well, better content.
Post by Ludullu on 2023-01-03 22:44:51
Could you come up with at least a single example of what this content would even be though?
Post by Ludullu on 2023-01-03 22:53:25
That's that SAO shit. The good shit. I can't wait for that, but I doubt Intrepid's gonna be the ones to do it
Post by Ludullu on 2023-01-03 23:07:54
I mean, I love idlers I'm at the bottom of the foodchain when it comes to pleasing me with a game. But as I said, OP is a heroin addict who somehow thinks there's something better out there, when there's not. SAO would add the only missing "dynamism" to the equation - the full immersion. A monitor and a kbm/controller can only take you so far. I mean, I guess there's the literal infinity of thought but some people can't access that freely, so D&D-type stuff doesn't apply. For me a non-SAO peak mmo would be a game where ...

This type of stuff is why I hope Ashes will have something like a world-wide news agency or something like that. So that I could hear about some server that's about to have a coastal node siege and I'd go visit that server as a tourist. Though I dunno who'd be up for aggregating literal thousand of pieces of info from all across all the servers (potentially hundreds, if the game is popular enough) onto a single easily parsable site.
Post by Ludullu on 2023-01-03 23:24:59
Yeah, there was an xbox game that let you combine certain elements and effects into your own spells. It got brought up the last time I mentioned my idea. I watched a few videos about that game and it seemed that some spells were OP as hell, though the game was single player so it didn't really matter in the end. If you'd be up to it then I definitely hope that Ashes ends up being a game that you and your team love

Have you seen this? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t3LydR8VssY This had more action combat than other showcases. Steven's a tab gamer through and through, so he doesn't really show off action all that much.

Then you should DEFINITELY NOT try Lineage2
Post by Ludullu on 2023-01-04 00:30:38
Then I hope that Steven changes his stance on the nameplate decay visuals, cause that's the most direct way to grief people w/o killing them. I really don't know why they even have that. Maybe AA had smth like that? L2 sure as hell didn't and it worked just fine there.

Changing the boss' difficulty would only time gate the gear even more. BiS in Ashes will come from open world bosses (be it direct drops or mats used in crafting later), so unless you have 20 of the same boss spawn every 10 minutes somewhere on the server - ya ain't getting your gear anytime soon. Not everyone is a winner in Ashes, so if you dislike games where you can't just get what you want when you want it - you might dislike Ashes too.
Post by Ludullu on 2023-01-04 00:57:03
Except you don't in Ashes. Like I said, bosses are open world. Literally the entire server could be gunning for that boss. And if the boss is difficult enough to push people's skills to the max, any kind of interference will fuck up a raid. Which means that any guild who wants the boss for themselves and not for others will go and fuck up all the other raids until they themselves are ready to attempt the boss, at which point a yet another guild will start fucking shit up. And now you have several guilds fighting over a ...

I mean, instanced content will always be qualitatively better than open world one (especially in games with owpvp), but Ashes is just not a game to have instanced bosses that give BiS gear. There's a tiny chance that Steven somehow does a 180 and goes directly against the "risk/reward" design of open world bosses, but so far he's only doubled down on owpvp, so I somehow doubt that he'll go for instances. And that is why I said that you might dislike this game, considering that you've already said that you disliked ow bosses in other game. And especially ...
Post by Ludullu on 2023-01-04 01:29:10
But you agree that ow bosses who are also difficult (skill gated) would only lead to even more time gating, so they'd either have to be instanced or be forever unkilled. I guess I just approached this from the wrong angle. If harder content would keep you playing, would you be ok with it not giving you BiS gear? Cause if that's the case then I'd assume Intrepid will keep using instanced bosses for their story content and there's a chance that later expansions will make those bosses harder.
