Does BDO apply here? Cause it's all about movement-based attacks.

I think that martial arts game that you keep mentioning to me would probably fit. I keep forgetting its name Wanted to post it here, cause it looked like you do "basic attacks" there, but they all have different executions.

"Any game"'s any game So in a way fighting games are the exact thing with the unique basic attacks. And when you then take those mechanics into a non-2d games - that's even more unique. So I feel like it fits.

Yeah, I guess I can see that point. Though I'd be a bit worried as to how many people this would push away. No matter how much I'd prefer a way more hardcore game, I'd also prefer Ashes to succeed enough to survive for a very long time. And in most cases that survival of pvp mmos either comes in the form of 2k players on a single server paying just enough to cover server costs or in the form of p2w so damn huge that you could never win a single fight as a non-payer. And while I ...

I couldn't care less about cosmetics, but I will be participating in all the events of the game cause I'm an achievement hunter. So to me, as long as that buyable version has at least a single spot on it that visually differentiates it from the event one - I'm good. What's the point of showing off what you've achieved in the game if someone can just buy the exact same thing for money.

If he goes purple - he'll be CCd. The boon is the reward system. If the reward system is utter shite, I doubt anyone will become a BH.

https://ashesofcreation.wiki/Corruption If a combatant player, or their summon, kills a non-combatant player, including any of their controlled entities, such as their battle pet, mount, or summon, the player's character will be flagged as corrupted.[9][10][2]

To me going Red is still about taking someone's farming spot away rather than pretty much any other reason. And if that spot is somewhere deep in a dungeon, unless the green can respawn in the neighboring room - that's several minutes of traversing the dungeon to get back to the same spot. If the green didn't fight back and decided to just run away - good for me, I'm not corrupted but I still got the spot. Either that green won't come back cause he's not a fighter or if he comes back - I just flag up ...

I was just providing a clarification on a point. And I explained my position in the next post.
Post by Ludullu on 2023-01-04 18:13:34
Because in all cases where the green would/could fight - he wouldn't be a damn green. No one is forcing you to take the BH job, but if you took it - why in the hell would you not do it then? If the green is a fighter, he'll just fight back when the attacker strikes him. If the green wants to punish the red on their own - they're always free to do that and I will always hope that all greens will. But for literal thousands of players who don't care about pvp, but who will still ...

As we've discussed before, L2 didn't let you use CCs against "greens" either. Dunno about AA though. So it's not like this came purely as a response to some random YT vid.

Entire duration of combat and ideally some new mechanics outside of just standing there pressing one button and yelling "yo mama" jokes at the mobs. Iirc we already have that cone formation thing, so I think a mechanic of random agro by the mob that tank can "feel" beforehand and has a second or two to get in position and set up a defensive stance in front of the target would be great. In other words, please try out something new with this archetype.

Literally Lineage 2. You dropped full gear (even the one you were wearing) if you died to mobs, so there were full gank squads of classes with stuns just running around stunning "greens" who were engaged with mobs. Here's a video of top losses on the classic servers. (you can autotranslate CCs) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_NqJFqpRBgg They mainly show war-based kills or even a full scam at the end, but the same principle applied to people stun-locking "greens" until they died to mobs. Ttk is supposed to be long, so I doubt that a single CC would decide the fight, but even ...

Only CCs that were directly tied to damage dealing abilities. So mainly Stuns. Pretty much no other CC worked.

I mean, that's gonna be the 20% of dungeons. Instanced content is pve-only (well, outside of arenas obviously and potentially castle sieges).
Post by Ludullu on 2023-01-04 22:17:35
Yeah, my idea is to force people to do good, because I fucking know for damn sure that the absolute majority never will. Just how the corruption system has ways to stop genocide of greens, because Intrepid know that people would do that, I want a system that would force people to be good to others
Post by Ludullu on 2023-01-04 22:19:26
At least a few will definitely require a group and maybe even a raid. But if you mean that some rando could enter your instanced dungeon, then I'm pretty sure that the dungeon being instanced is literally meant to prevent that from happening.
Post by Ludullu on 2023-01-04 22:37:35
Yep, planning on it. I was thinking of a rate of ~60-70%. With it getting higher with the PK counter growing. If it was your first PK, you'd barely get any corruption and would cleanse it before any BH would even find you (unless you were in the middle of low lvl mobs that give you no XP). If it's your 10th kill - you'll probably have to grind mobs of your lvl for 30-40 minutes, which is way more than enough for any BH on the whole server to get to you. Obviously those are somewhat arbitrary numbers, ...

Unless wow classic completely changed the mechanic or unless I somehow never heard of it, I think even wow's instanced dungeons didn't let anyone else in to your group's/raid's dungeon. And that was almost 20 years ago now, so I dunno.
Post by Ludullu on 2023-01-04 22:50:08
The BH still takes the risk of going after a Pker who might've PKed some random lowbie who had nothing on him. And I think you said that you do want to go after PKers who kill lowbies, so in theory your only reward would be the system-based one (cause the PKer himself would probably only have trash on him). And at that point, how is my suggestion any different from you serving justice to those PKers? And if the corruption gain/removal values remain as they currently seem to be, like I said before, I'm pretty sure the only ...

I'm not sure that a random pacifist green would be forethinking enough to calculate on the fly the chances of him getting his mats back. He'll either value them highly enough to fight back or just try to run away because he doesn't want to pvp. It's not like people would somehow know for sure the precise success rate of the BH system. The risk/reward calculation remains, it just gets a new part for the consideration of the player. "Do I risk dying here, losing time, gaining gear decay - all in hopes of a BH (and not a ...
Post by Ludullu on 2023-01-04 23:02:42
Oh, that'd be too hard to calculate. Even with lower corruption penalties, I doubt that people would just go around killing random other players. But in the context of a fully packed server, I'd imagine there'd be at least ~100 players who'd PK a dude or two every other day. But with that being spread across all the greens on the server, even if we assume that half a server is purely pacifist greens (hiiiighly doubt it'd be that), any given green would die maybe a few times a month? Maybe even less, if they're lucky or just don't ...

Yeah, that kinda what I meant by the last line of text. I'm not sure how many truly pacifist greens would randomly go deep into a high lvl dungeon to gather something on their own. I'm sure there'd be a few who'd try, but at that point they gotta realize the risks of doing that and were either ok with those or were just crazy enough to attempt this w/o thinking it through. And outside of those high value locations, random artisanal actions or even chill mob killing would only fell prey to the more hardcore PKers, who'd go ...

I wouldn't go quite as far as saying that, but I do think that even laxer corruption penalties wouldn't suddenly make Ashes into a full-on gankbox. But Dygz doesn't care about any of that because he's a rare breed of player with very strong convictions and a very particular ruleset for games, especially when it comes to pvp.

Those are some amazing questions. If only we knew. After 5 years of selling that shit Intrepid still hasn't told us.
Post by Ludullu on 2023-01-04 23:52:09
Yeah, I guess this is the core point here. Because as I see it, if to that green pacifist the most interesting content is happening somewhere dangerous - the pacifist will probably just play another game. I'm probably just generalizing non-pvpers too much, because 99% of my mmo experience has been with pvxers so I got zero real clue how non-pvpers play games. I just imagine a carebear who's enjoying their 1-2h of chill fishing or simpler solo mobs on the plains, rather than some hardcore pver who's deep in a dungeon fighting the strongest mobs in the game. ...

Don't tell Neurath, but my initial idea for this suggestion was to give buffs to the victims that would pretty much return their lost time And I do believe that it would be quite rare even if my suggestion was implemented. But obviously I can't say for sure w/o seeing either system on a proper live server. Perhaps that is the case. Most likely even is.

What if there was an automatic quest system (probably tied to religious organizations) that provide basic mini quests for elite mobs in the area (as soon as those spawn). And when you take this quest you can either take a party version (with much higher rewards to encourage it) or a solo one. And the solo version would give you a priest NPC who'd go with you to the mob and control surrounding mobs to fight anyone else in the nearest vicinity except you (control would be done through essence/corruption magic or whatever fits the lore). So in a ...
Post by Ludullu on 2023-01-05 02:55:11
Do you think that type of player would be interested in purely the challenge of it all? Cause the idea could be inversed. You first gotta beat the elite with a group. It'd give you an item that you could then give to your religion's NPC and make him summon the same mob, but either with no rewards or maybe just with different ones. Tie that to a particular freehold building and you got yourself a cost for the reward and a pvp-less location to summon the mob. Though this might be too money/time-gated for most people. Freeholds will ...
