If they can separate the hair into separate parts with their respective sliders - they should be able to have something similar. Would definitely be quite nice

I think we can highly promote and encourage interaction with those pillars, while still supporting several different gameplay styles. And that's kinda what Intrepid are already plan on doing.

I posted this before, but here's a map of a single dungeon from L2 that supported 50 farming spots, some of them for small groups and most for full ones. I expect each metro to have at least 3 of these tied to them. That'd be 15 huge dungeons for top lvl players. Even if we assume just 20 rooms instead of 50 spots, that's ~1/5 of a full server all farming at the same time at max lvl around just 5 nodes. Then we add another 10-20 lower lvl dungeons with a few top lvl rooms at the ...

I'd prefer the difficulty to come from requirements of proper cooperation, be it through synergy abilities or purely positioning and movement. And I would love if bosses had "more than one hand". If a mob is huge, its reach should be bigger than just to the tank. I'd prefer something like the SAO's skeletal scorpion boss fight where they needed 2 different players to tank each of the claws of the boss. If that particular thing is impossible in the current engine, I think it could be replicated by just super fast double attacks where the second hit goes ...

Yeah, it's a bit of both for me. You need to constantly control the "how fast can we die" part, and then at certain points you'd need to cooperate correctly and timely in order to overcome a small timer before the boss becomes even harder. So pretty much the plain "boss has stages and becomes harder with time", but with a bit more control of how hard it becomes by the players. And ideally the boss' triggers would be randomized and their amount would be at least twice of what's required for a single kill. So that players need ...

I prefer full item destruction on failed OE, but people were so damn butthurt about this mechanic that I doubt Intrepid sticks with it. Durability loss would be fine as a replacement I guess.
Post by Ludullu on 2023-01-05 20:28:39
If adding a super difficult way to control that randomness somewhat is middle, then yeah. So maybe a way to either prevent or delay that head detachment through very precise cooperated actions or smth like that. Could probably be a "move the true hardcoreness to later if you think that you have enough dps to outlive it" kind of thing. So you could either ignore the early head detachment (if it comes early) because you think that you can survive it for a long time, or you do some action to delay it but then the head's abilities hit ...

It's quite vague. It says that it has "destruction" of gear, but then the quote for it implies that the item just kinda goes to 0 durability or smth like that, so you keep the item instead of it completely disappearing.
Post by Ludullu on 2023-01-05 21:31:33
No, that's the point. The initial stance is what I described. We're not 100% sure that items completely disappear if you fail an OE.

Iirc weapons was 66% and armor/jewelry was 55%? It's been years since I've gone into those kinds of details about L2 and I've been actively trying to remove my L2 details memories from my brain all these past years. And yeah, you had special scrolls that would keep the item but remove the enchantment lvl. And then later on, in order to boost the fucking p2w even fucking more, NFucksoft introduced items that would keep the enchant lvls on fails. And they added +% items and even fucking +1-3 random scrolls, so you could get a +3 enchant instead ...

I'm 95% sure that even if Ashes did in fact have full destruction before - it no longer does. It'd have to be parsed, but from what I remember of the thread, probably around 70-80% of the posters there HATED destruction. Might've been even more, but that's might just be my bias speaking, cause every time I'd see one of those posts this'd be me

So my bias might've not been as bad at skewing my assumptions. Nice

I think this is the latest quote on the topic. It seems that Steven leans towards the L2 system, while the team is probably pushing back by "ironing out some flows"
Post by Ludullu on 2023-01-05 22:23:16
The safe level came from L2 too, so the discussion of destruction was always about OE, the O meaning going over that safe lvl. And that was mainly one of my issues with the protesters. Even though there was always a lvl of safe improvement for you weapon, people still vehemently protested the destruction, as if they were made to OE all of their stuff. And I think that particular thing does come directly from BDO, cause iirc your "gear score" there is one of the main factors of who kills and who dies. That wasn't really the case ...

How much of a necessity for pvp (or maybe even pve) was the BDO's enchantment system? Cause in most cases in L2, the top lvl weapon that was over +10 was a godlike thing that barely anyone saw with their own eyes. And even those usually came from thousands of man (or bot) hours grinding the game and funneling it all into one player. But even against that +10, if you had a +3-5 weapon (usually achieved with super rare safe scrolls that didn't destroy the weapon) you were a mere few % lower in overall dps. And obviously, ...

But now a question though. Do you really think that people (completely normal non-techminded people) can divorce the thought of "I need this thing to be +10 and not +9, otherwise I fucking die in each fight" from the "in order to get to +10 I need to go through several levels of rng and overpreparedness, all of which is shit"? In other words, could there be a chance that people were hating the OE system in BDO because it was one of the main hurdles in their characters progression, while in L2 (even if it's statistically worse) the ...

And as an example of what I'm talking about, here's a video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O-yuFaLpAY0 Try to look at people's weapons and look for a faint blue glow (or a darker one). I think the MC of the video has a +5 bow, so his glow is a step above the faintest possible. This video was taken during, what most L2 players would call, best L2 times. And this is the siege of the biggest castle in the game with the best guilds trying to capture it. Barely anyone even has the glow itself, so most likely they're at +3 (the ...

Yeah, this will always be the main issue with any rng-based system. Which is why I tried coming up with a non-rng one back in the day I believe your numbers because seem completely logical in context. And I definitely understand that some people will always hate rng purely because it's always inherently unfair to someone. I was just trying to point out a deeper reason for why people might hate OE destruction, even if they themselves have never played a game with that mechanic present. Like, again, from what I've heard of BDO (and unless I misunderstood, it ...

I mean, like I've been trying to say, for me personally it won out at the point of me not really needing to go to +16, let alone +17. The only time I even tried going that far was on a very lax super pvp-oriented high rate private server where, in order to OE the top lvl weapon anywhere beyond +10 you needed to grind for only a few hours. But that whole server was pretty much all about "just OEing until you drop". The "real pvp" wouldn't even start until you were past +12. I've had a few ...

Like I said, I'm used to the tiers mattering more than the enchant lvl. Maybe this is where my lack of BDO knowledge shows itself the most. In BDO, do you get more lvls of enchantments with new updates? Maybe we're talking about the same thing but I just don't know it? L2 was super slow in its gear tier rollout and even slower in your acquisition of it. So when you've spent the last few months getting full T5 and you have several more months ahead of you for T6, the game would probably add T7 by the ...

I got 0 real clue what you just said I thiiink you're saying that most people don't bother OEing the highest tier of gear, but ultimately you should because it's truly the best?
Post by Ludullu on 2023-01-06 00:33:59
You should really just look at Ashes as a game with 8 "classes". Augments might in fact give you the feeling as if you're quite different from what your archetype is, but I wouldn't bet on it. So it's easier to expect 8 classes and be pleasantly surprised than to expect 64 completely unique feeling dudes. That "special ability" has been suggested before and I do think it's a good idea in concept, but I want to see the current system first before making a final judgement.

Aha, so this is what Neurath was talking about. Ok then, how long ago did the Pen lvl of enchantment became even available to the players? The post seems to imply that it was years even back in 2018. Since 2018 has there been a new lvl beyond that? Because at those kinds of rates full pen would imply smth like a +10 T6 weapon with +6 T6 full set and a full set of Epic Jewelry in L2, if my non-existent math is anywhere near correct But if the pen has been the highest "tier of gear" for ...
Post by Ludullu on 2023-01-06 01:06:52
I think you just got stuck on the math part too much. Azherae knows the BDO system well so she knows the math of its OEing and L2's system is literally 66% for a weapon at every step. And I believe Azherae if she says that comparatively speaking, the chance of someone getting a +16 weapon in L2 is similar to someone getting TET in BDO, except along the way to either of those positions L2 burns literally everything while BDO doesn't. So purely in the context of math comparisons - BDO is more lenient to the player. But ...

Do expansions add anything beyond these tiers? And Neurath mentioned a red weapon which is supposed to be the best one out there, was that added recently or has it been in the game for years? If I understood it correctly, BDO seems to be an even shittier version of L2's p2w. The devs made an insane OE system, put players at the very bottom and tuned the chances to such low values that it's been taking people years to even amass enough gear to progress to new content. And then the devs gave a p2w way to progress, ...

As long as I can turn those off on my end (visually speaking), I'd be fine if they lasted a long time. Cause I ain't about to burn out my eyes from seeing 500++ people shining like the sun during a siege.
Post by Ludullu on 2023-01-06 02:01:02
And this ultimate thing hasn't changed in how many years now? I'm asking mainly because I do think that in the bigger picture it's the problem with BDO's design of character progression (which seems to be OEing). I mean, my instinctual reaction is that I would be making a pyramid of items to upgrade rather than downgrading what I have. But considering that BDO doesn't burn gear, I'd just have 2 of the same item and would just boost them both up until I reach the peak. So at no point would I need to go back to a ...

Nah, I'm just wrong. I got the most important (to me) clarification. I should've just worded my question better from the start, instead of constantly going into semi-philosophical weeds. If you say that according to pure math a +16 is equal to a tet (and not even pen), then BDO's system is leagues beyond L2 in leniency towards the player. My final question here would be this then. Does BDO make it easier to PEN previously top tiers of gear? Let's take console BDO. Now that they have Orange, is it easier for them to PEN gold (or at ...
