We back in it. And now the game looks even more like AoC before AoC, so it's gonna be a very nice test for how people take to the ideas from either game https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Or9BfKJ9g4g

Open world pvp areas (by the sounds of it, around bosses and other events), open world dungeons and bosses, huge sieges, weather effects impacting gameplay directly, guild wars with tasks to complete, seemingly hybrid combat. Those are just the ones that I noticed from the video and remember right now. And most of those are something that's rare outside of a few korean mmos. And some of those will have very similar alternatives in AoC, so if we see that a huge majority of people are dissatisfied by some of those mechanics - we'll know the potential response to ...

The more I look at the game, the more it seems like the classic korean autobattler tab game. That rock throwing scene seemed like there's at least some actiony gameplay, which is why I said that it seems like hybrid (+the previous allegations of it having action combat). So if when it comes out it does have action combat - that's gonna be my feedback. Make your ad videos as true to your design as possible. Obviously AoC will have all the alpha/beta footage from all holes of the internet, but I'm sure that Intrepid will try making ad ...

Guess we'll just have to see

Yeah, as long as dungeons and POIs are pvp zones, I think all the thrill lovers will be satisfied, cause I'd assume they'll spend 90% of their gameplay at those locations.
Post by Ludullu on 2022-12-27 04:45:19
Like I said, majority of their gameplay would most likely be spent in the "dangerous" areas, so I personally don't think that they'd care about a few newbs running through the hills. I'm obviously basing this purely on my experience in L2, where the majority of people would just run past the lower lvl parts of a location w/o disturbing the people who were farming them. While there were definitely cases where if someone saw a flagged player there they'd immediately attack them, in my experience those were somewhat rare purely because that'd be a loss of resources (hp/mana/cd/pots) ...

Ah, that's an understandable assumption. But it barely applies to me cause one of the biggest "attractions" in L2 were particular gates of cities (cities were safe zones), where people would spend literal hours just baiting each other into pvp by step in and out of the safe zone while being flagged. But yeah, I definitely see how that might be an issue, though I think its severity would depend on how far you gotta go from a POI to reach the safe zone. If it's right outside the dungeon entrance or the open world POI is super small ...

Yep, and it'd be all kinds of lvls too. You'd have top lvl dudes coming there to just mess around with the newbies, but also the newbs trying to gang up on the high lvl people and sometimes even running around the entire city wall just to try and attack them from the side (cause you'd usually pay attention only to the gates). Here's even a stream of nearly 2 hours of pvping there (after 20:00) https://youtu.be/rRlqrssYTpI?t=1201

Oh, this thread brings up another question. Should abilities with synergistic effects apply those effects to a green target? What about a stacking synergy where you might build up some sort of buff or amount of usages of an ability and could then release the final one onto your target? In other words, should Intrepid worry about some "hidden" combo wombo that could result in a one-shot or do you think that those are just a gimmick that wouldn't really work in a practical application?

They're also going for 3-5k servers. And their world seemed fairly big too. This makes me really curious whether Intrepid will succeed in both supporting their 10k concurrents and in designing the game in a way where those 10k people always have smth to do w/o the lands feeling barren. I guess freeholds will fill up most of those lands, but still.

And those 10 years will be the interesting difference here. TL has allegedly been in "development" for those 10 years and have cut down their presentation to their mvp in the process. If we assume that Ashes manages to come out within the same 10-year span and with all the promised stuff - I'd call that almost a miracle. And we've obviously seen that the game has already changed some things along the way, though obviously not as massively as TL has (from isometric to full 3d). And as long as NCsoft doesn't COMPLETELY FUCK IT ALL UP (highly ...

I've seen and done countless one-shots in L2. Rogues and a particular warrior class were very good at those. And sometimes mages would also one-shot someone who was just a bit too low on m.def.
Post by Ludullu on 2022-12-28 15:18:05
Early and mid updates iirc. Later ones gave a ton of countermeasures and overall hp/def values became higher so one-shots weren't as easy. I do hope that Steven doesn't go for one-shots in Ashes cause as much as I loved critting someone for x3-5 their health, I'd assume that those people weren't quite as happy about that situation. I was just pointing out that there are in fact games that let you one-shots others. And those classes didn't even need huge debuff stacks or combo wombos. You'd just buff yourself up properly and go kill a few dudes (the ...

CCs won't work on greens so if you're ambushed and don't want to fight back - just run, no one will be able to stop you. And if you're trying to run away while flagged, I'd hope that the ttk of 30s-1m would allow most classes to disengage w/o immediately dying. But full stealth would allow those ambushers to PK you as fast as possible because you would never see them coming, while they'd be free to unload their strongest abilities into you.

Just running away as a green should outpace an attacking player. And as Neurath said, you can mount and ride away.
Post by Ludullu on 2022-12-28 18:41:21
Mounts. Also, any movement boosting abilities would probably help a purely running person better than a run&shoot person. And that ranger showcase showed that you can move and shoot, but necessarily sprint and shoot.

Flagged people can get CCed, so I don't think that's be as big of a problem.
Post by Ludullu on 2022-12-28 21:13:13
If by "PKs" you mean red players then no, you do not get flagged for doing anything to them. I mean, I doubt it's a "cannot escape" kind of situation, but it'd definitely be easier to run away as a green than as a purple or red. Also, if those ambushers really wanted to PK the green - I'd assume they could just hit their victim all together and bring the ttk from 30s-1m down to mere seconds. A lot of things will depend on a lot of other things. The attackers might've been glass cannons, while the victim ...

It only loses meaning if your only reason for killing another person is to rob them. But if that's the case then imo the system has already lost meaning.
Post by Ludullu on 2022-12-28 21:22:28
As the link posted in a comment above points out - greens do not get flagged for doing literally anything to a red player. A red player is pretty much a monster in the eyes of the system. They're to be punished and hunted.

This will highly depend on the drop values. Right now I couldn't care less about someone dropping something. I'm gonna be attacking people that are farming a location that I want to farm or if they're kos for my guild, or they're in a warring guild, or an enemy of my node, or any other more concrete reason to kill a person than just "if I kill them there's a small chance that they'll have something very valuable on them, have it in a high enough quantity to drop enough of that thing to justify my corruption (cause killing ...
Post by Ludullu on 2022-12-28 21:58:23
And get x1.5 more corruption for no additional value? If the owner was a fighter he'd probably try to keep the mule alive in the first place. But even if he does try to kill me afterwards, I'll just have to try and outskill him in combat. We also don't know whether your party/guild mates can loot the mule that you PKed, cause if they can then you can pretty much lose nothing but gain a ton.
Post by Ludullu on 2022-12-28 22:03:37
There's several of those already. Doubt any of them will succeed, considering the system's design.
Post by Ludullu on 2022-12-28 22:18:00
Oh, I knew it was a joke. I'm just too boring not to point out that some people take that joke seriously and will fail cause it is a joke to attempt this.
Post by Ludullu on 2022-12-28 22:33:56
If only the PKer can loot their victim (no matter if player or mule), then the loot can just be shared later, there'd be no competition for it. But I would definitely prefer if that was the case cause it'd support the corruption and BH systems much better.
Post by Ludullu on 2022-12-28 23:05:22
Yeah, there's a chance this'll be the case. I guess 2023 will show how big that chance is.
Post by Ludullu on 2022-12-28 23:28:30
Mule is x10 not x100. So even if the drop is 10%, you'd be getting a full inventory from a fully stacked mule. And any higher percentage would just let you kill mules that are not fully stacked.
Post by Ludullu on 2022-12-28 23:39:46
We don't know the amount. My 10% were just for an example of the lower beneficial limit. But no matter what the values are, I don't think that using a mule as a red player would be viable. The point is, PKing the mule is more beneficial cause it gives you less corruption and more loot.
Post by Ludullu on 2022-12-28 23:54:25
Yeah, I brought that up before. If the rider is a fighter they'll just fight back. And if the attackers had more than one person then they'll just deal with them. And if the drop percentages are higher than 20% then even a flagged fully stacked mule would give more than a player's inventory loot. But I think we've gone too far from the topic. Mules will most likely be slower than player sprinting speeds so no one would be able to run away using them, at which point it'll always be a "fight or die" situation.

Mainly indecisiveness. I get wanting to listen to your fans and include their feedback into the development, but I also think that sooner or later your gotta finally decide on one thing and go with it. And I'd say that we're past the "later" at this point.
