Then another question. Is there a non-instanced way to prevent the rich from always winning in a non-rng system? Would my suggestion thread work, because it puts more strain on the top of the pyramid (unless I misunderstand my own suggestion in this context )?

If UE5 allows for it (guess it does cause so many mmos do this now), it'd be better to plan for this at a later stage of development. Spending time on a PS/Xbox version could be very detrimental, because it might delay the game for even longer while not really paying off in the long run cause the game doesn't fit the console audience. I think TL's experience will show whether it's viable to have a new mmo on a console.

Don't think we know? I'm not even sure how the process itself goes. Can people respawn? If yes, then where? And if they can't, then can you get resurrected after your death or do you immediately get thrown out of the attack/defense when you die. It's all absolutely vague at this point. So pretty much the answer is the classic "wait till alpha2".

I think BDO proves that even an as purely action game as BDO is can still have power scaling design that fucks the balance completely. So yes, it is about how the game itself is made, but tab targetness doesn't have as much of an impact as you might think. Your enemy might have a +16 bow, but you have ultimate evasion and he literally can't hit you. Or your enemy might have a +16 magic mace, but you're a tank with a magic mirror and no jewelry, so the mage dies before you just from hitting you. There ...

Yeah, I'd most likely give a pass if the PK tells me they killed a bot. I'd ask where and who, so that I can go check if the bot returns (cause I'd assume he has a script to farm the same place). I would also probably immediately PM the given name to doublecheck. If there's no response within a few minutes (the length would depend on the corruption balancing) - I'd probably let the PKer go and would then check the location of the supposed bot. If it's not there - there's a somewhat high chance that it ...

Of course it fucking isn't God damn that game. But you've said before that you, theoretically, can outdodge super high lvl mobs even if you don't have the gear. Doesn't that make it action? Or is pvp way different from pve and there's always at least one ability that will always hit? Maybe that is the case, but as James pointed out, L2 returned a pretty big chunk of your progress to you. If OE methods are super expensive and a failed OE just removes all the enchant stages - you've lost progress. And I sure as hell hope ...

What about the death reduction values? Death is supposed to be the main way to remove corruption, so I'd assume several hundred a death? Or do you want to go ultra hardcore and have smth like 20-50 per death?

Imo this is ultimately a good thing cause it proves that Steven does listen to his employees on this kind of stuff.

Except that doesn't work

And I definitely hope Intrepid make a better fucking map. I hate 99% of current maps in games. Why in the hell would you have a shitty map!?
Post by Ludullu on 2023-01-10 13:56:32
Yeah, I feel like that's one of the reasons why Steven added the seas and the ruins (and might add more).

The one that doesn't show anything properly, doesn't show elevation differences, has no details and looks like shit

Then I'd rather this system to be gone completely. I don't want a useless system that exists for no real reason. Either the tuning of corruption is already a big enough deterrent or the BH system is there to do something more than just exist. Greens will have more opportunities and better chances of punishing a red, so why even have the BH system in its current form.

Yes, I'd love this too, but still as long as the map that I get from a cartographer looks great. We'll have magic, summons and we've already seen the dreadful YELLOW HAMMER. All of those things mean that people can create visual illusions. Make cartographers a fucking 3d mapping tool and make their maps a magic projector rather than just a piece of paper. In other words, do better.

Doesn't ninjalooting only works with random groups or shittyly comprised guilds who also let anyone pick loot up? The reputation will work within/among guilds and maybe in nodes. So unless you have the time/resources to level up a full account of characters that can be accepted into a strong guild that would be farming bosses worth ninjalooting - ya ain't really escaping your reputation.

And Ashes reduced this particular issue with their diminishing returns on CCs. But yeah, getting permastunned was definitely a problem. In my experience unless the mage had a shitton of hp - he'd usually die before the tank. Either oneshot with the "magic mirror (proper name is Shield Deflect Magic, cause I forgot it last time) + no jewelry" trick or outskilled with UDs against Enlightenment and other tricks. It would obviously be harder than fighting an equally OEd mage, but was still possible. A quick YT search only gives one video from 12 years ago (everything else is ...

So kinda what L2 did and kinda what I suggested for AoC's gear progression over the years. Add newer stuff that's hard to get, but make the older stuff easier to get and/or upgrade higher. I sadly couldn't play on the EU servers back in L2's heydays, but that video I posted from a siege was on EU servers, and my argument with that video was "see, people don't OE as much", so what's more likely is just that EU people have always been this way and it's the other cultures that like to gamble more. Koreans seem to ...

Are the new Red items easy to get? You said that orange stuff could take months, so I assumed that Red would be at roughly the same point if not harder, cause it's supposed to be even better. At this point I don't even fucking know. Plans for corruption balancing seem to be really punishing, while more opt-in pvp areas are added (even if one of them is permanent). To me that feels like Steven saw the exact issues you explained and decided to change the design to help out those pvers to enjoy the game more. And with ...

Yeah, a lot of gaming is super weird these days. Indie games seem to be doing the best, but it's almost impossible to make a really good indie mmo that would survive for long w/o some egregious mechanic to ruin it. I'm kinda interested in Palia, purely because it's trying to go directly opposite of where most mmos go. I guess the latest WoW update kinda went there too, judging by Dygz' comments, but from what I've heard the update itself wasn't that popular (though there's like 10 different reasons for that). And I'm definitely waiting to see what ...

I don't think we've heard any word on this being true. And iirc in alpha1 there was pvp right outside of the starting spawn, when the pvp was on. And this doesn't seem to mention starting zones https://ashesofcreation.wiki/Safe_zones

This just sounds like bad design of low lvl gameplay rather than just a problem of leveling. You could have a game w/o lvls but it would require you to repeat the same actions to lvl up your skills, so at the start you'd still have limited gameplay. And if you don't want to have that limit - don't play rpgs. Yes, Intrepid can give all the tools right at lvl1, but those tools would still have to be limited in their uses, because otherwise there'd be no progress of your character.

L2 for ~12 years (on and off in the later half). Mostly played on private servers cause couldn't afford a sub in the early years and when the RU official servers came out being f2p I didn't have enough time to grind them super hardcore and that was the only way to stay at least somewhat on pace with the insane p2w players. Stopped playing mainly because I pretty much played it all up and down in those 12 years. Due to how hated the later updates of the game were, most private servers had the early version of ...

Do you have a suggestion to resolve this "issue"? Or do you just want literally the entire game given to you on a silver platter within the first 5 minutes of playing it?
Post by Ludullu on 2023-01-13 00:57:30
Ok, and when that group masters their gameplay skill, what do they do next? If there's literally no progress in mobs (cause everyone is the same lvl), what do those people do now? And some of the more skilled people would hit that point almost immediately. Do you want a game with 0 character progress? This isn't a shooter where your avatar is a direct conduit of your irl skills. This is an rpg, where you must bring your in-game character on a journey, where it'll learn a ton of stuff and grows with that knowledge. And you either ...

Afaik pretty much all of those things are not really locked behind direct vertical progression in lvls. They are still locked behind their own progression. You won't be able to craft the best gear in the game w/o investing time into crafting a ton of other shit. You can participate in politics at lower lvls too (I've seen this done in L2 years ago). I'd assume there'll be quests/actions for cosmetics that won't require you to be max lvl. But direct power of your character must come in some form of progression in an rpg. If you're a full-blown ...
