If they copied L2's auto-battling, then yes, you can fight back in pvp. There's an option for immediately fighting back if flagged upon. There's also an aggressive and passive modes for farming, so your char either only hits clean mobs or tries to overdmg already engaged one. And the latest version of Lineage mobile has auto-questing as well. Others might too, but I haven't looked into them. Was kinda interested in Lineage W because it's closer to L1 and I wanted to try it out, but their fucking "global" release is just for the asia region, so I only ...

Please re-read my comment. I think there's a word you missed.

This is why I stepped away from the toxicity argument. Toxic people are always toxic. A tracker would just be another tool for them to apply toxicity with.

I'd say the q&a was somewhat pointless. I'm thankful for a more hardball choice of questions, but the answers were as standard as they get and we didn't really get any real new info. Which to me just means that they're not ready to properly answer such questions. I'd prefer to remove monthly q&a completely and just have a quarterly big one, like friday's, or maybe even have one every 6 months. Just pick the most popular questions and give us updates on them (if there are any).

All the 100++ pages of dps meter discussion is proof of this. That whole thread pretty much comes down to "no, you don't need meters because content can be difficult w/o them" vs "no, you need meters because content literally can't be difficult w/o them". And the difference in opinion comes from the skill lvl of the participants of that discussion.

I guess I should've been more clear in that comment. I'm saying that trackers do not make toxic people, they can just be used by them, but only if those people were already toxic. I agree with both of you. Which is why I said that I no longer use "toxicity" as a counter argument against meters. I still dislike meters because they speed up the difficulty curve of the game and soon enough either lead to the majority of content being completely unclearable by your normal player or the top skill players leaving the game because devs can't ...

Well, let's not go THAT far. They do have to make the game. They kinda promised that and kinda took a shitload of money from people to do that.

Great question. Sure would love to get an answer to it within the next few years

That poor guy at the bottom I definitely support terrain changes to this extent.

Yeah, except, as Noaani likes to say, that decision will depend on the top players. Intrepid have already (allegedly) decided on the difficulty. There'll supposedly be content that only <10% of the playerbase can beat. That seems somewhat difficult. But it only does so to the normal player. To a player like Noaani or Azherae, I'd assume, that content will at best be somewhere below their favorite top quality pve. So a theoretical guild (or a dozen of them) with people like those two can easily clear anything that Intrepid would find difficult. And those guilds would do so ...

Yeah, that's my expectation as well. I'd just hope that they clarify this point so as to not needlessly attract more players such as yourself. Would just be fairer towards such players. This would be completely in line with the L2ness of the game's design in this relation too. I also doubt their ability to keep adding hundreds if not thousands of top quality bosses into the game too, so even if they did go for the "proper" difficulty, I don't think they'd be able to keep up with people coming from EQ2 or FF11 (cause Azhe said it ...

This is what I was talking about though. Say they keep a half-year cycle of expansions. Each expac would need at least a few new top lvl bosses, right? And the previous top bosses would have (or at least should be) to be beatable by more people, either through gear or new abilities (cause decreasing difficulty would probably be frowned upon). And with meter use, those new top lvl bosses would have to be even harder, cause more people would have better gear and more people would've progressed in their gameplay skill. So you have ever-growing difficulty and ever-growing ...

Then I guess I had unrealistic expectations of rng within boss fights. I was thinking more along the lines of "there's so damn many variables in the fight that the best your tracker could tell you is that your rotation is good (or maybe your party's)". But if that's an impossible design within the current dev ability, then I guess meters are absolutely unavoidable. So say one top boss a year. How long would that have to be unsolvable to satisfy top pvers? 2 months? 6? Obviously in the context of them using trackers. And whatever the answer is, ...

I think the numbers should be mentioned though. How many players did you need to crash UO? L2 started lagging like hell when you had several hundred people within 50m2. NW started lagging when you had a few dozen people in the same spot. How many was "too many" in ESO's case? Cause while I definitely agree that no game was perfect, I do think that for its time L2 was surprisingly stable and allowed for huge fights. How many could Rift hold w/o too much lag?
Post by Ludullu on 2023-04-10 12:48:43
Would it be though? If the difficulty is high enough for top end dudes to take a week or two of proper prep to clear a single boss, any non-meter non-hardcore group would probably take months on that single boss (probably even if they look up how to beat it). And with, say, 15 of these getting added every year, majority of players would never catch up. And if the game provides gear that lets even the 50% clear this, that would mean that the power creep got high enough to trivialize that hardcore content. Which imo is just ...

I think the question should be "do cosmetics show their own racial style or do they change to fit the wearer's?" I personally want visual clarity for fights so I want item's own style to show up, but fuck me cause everyone will just wear cosmetics over their gear, so it's all pointless. And the whole point of a cosmetic is to show off its special look, so I'm guessing that it'll always show up as its base race style.
Post by Ludullu on 2023-04-10 16:46:09
Yeah, I'm still waiting for the details on this. If they really have no true limits on the stat dials - yeah, there'll be no difference between a crafted item with nearly randomized stats and just a cosmetic that hides the gear underneath. As for the icon that shows the gear - unless it's always visible, it's useless. Ain't nobody got time to click on 8 different people during a super fast party pvp encounter just to figure out who's wearing what. Though again, if the first point turns out to have 0 limits - this feature will be ...

And that's roughly what I'm expecting. Which would mean that there'll be a rough spectrum of potential stats on an item, especially in the context of a class/archetype. So seeing the true gear would still give an idea of what stats the person might have, because there'd always be a certain meta for them.

The style should always stay the same, but the form should change to fit the race. I loved how L2 did it. This is a fanmade set afaik, but it demonstrates the point well and works how other sets worked. The base style is particular, but it looks different on different races and char types (L2 had inherent split into fighter and magic classes). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i__D1LXiMTI

They're all one-timers. You can't buy stuff from the past.

The models are not wasted because they're made for npcs in the first place. And it's done for fomo reasons, so that more people get tempted to buy in.

Iirc there's no items over $35 in the packs. But Steven has already addressed this. He's a collector and appreciates rare things. Those who've been with the game since the start will be the ultimate collectors. Anyone else will have to deal with the release-onwards collection. They know they can make more money by just selling it all. Steven is not interested in that currently.
Post by Ludullu on 2023-04-10 21:24:30
Which is why I said that it's about fomo. No collector in the game will respect the pre-release cosmetics, so it won't matter. And if it does matter to someone - they've already lost, because they'll never get any of the older cosmetics.

New resources just need to be incorporated into the broader structure of crafting. So instead of going "I need to only farm this newest item" you go "I need to go this newest item on top of everything else I was farming before this". And due to your time being limited, you can only choose one place to farm. This would distribute the playerbase across the content and would let weaker players start farming stuff that only the strong players could farm before, because the strong dudes are now farming the newest locations. Make the older stuff drop just ...

I'd still argue that L2 had at the very least as much apm as BDO in pvp, but we've been through this discussion a few times already iirc, so it'd be pointless
Post by Ludullu on 2023-04-11 16:31:51
At this point I'm like 90% sure they do. DPS thread is the biggest example of that. They've been talking about the exact same thing, and the exact same arguments, using the exact same words pretty much every single time that thread gets resurrected. Honestly I got nothing better to do I mean, I do, but I'm at such a point of laziness that writing pointless stuff on the forums is more palatable than playing amazing games that're just sitting in my steam/gamepass

And here's pvp with high lvl of positioning in a click-to-move tab target game. You can hear how much he's clicking, and you can pay attention to the targetting, because he's playing a class that removes it and vs 2 classes that do the same. They're daggers, so they have backstabs, which pushes you to move to your enemy's back. You can see that they're trying to move around so that the enemy can't get behind them. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pH6Qts0sk8g And I'd say this is maybe ~80% skill lvl. Retargetting could be faster and the other dudes seem to get lost ...
