Just to clarify, we don't know if we can hit our mates currently. Steven said that we can't flag on them, but there might be a tiny chance that we'll be able to hit them if we're already flagged.

No CC is OP as long as there's a way to cleanse it. Sleep should be cleansable by your mate hitting you or, if Intrepid want to forbid that action, there should be some item that can remove sleep (mb a rock that you can throw at a person to wake them up). And there should be at least 2 archetypes who have a general cleanse (probably cleric and bard), which would require the party to keep those 2 players apart to avoid aoe CCs. This would also allow Intrepid to have more hard CCs across all archetypes.

We can't flag on pretty much any mate, so unless we're talking the situation that tautau described - right now we might not be able to wake our mates with a hit. This is where my lack of outside experience shows itself. What do those 2 effects do? I assume knockback just pushes you in a direction and knock-up throws you upward for a few seconds? If those are the case then yeah, I'd say that knockback is a CC only in the most literal sense of CC (as in, you're Controlling a part of the Crowd). The melee ...

Wouldn't "a general cleanse ability" be broad enough not to be considered a convoluted solution that requires a ton of work though? Like, if " a button that requires a ton of counter action" is considered OP, then wouldn't any stun, paralyze, sleep, be completely and utterly OP? Or is that your point and you'd remove all those effects from the game? L2 had all of those, which is why I'm completely used to playing against them, but it also had a full cleanse on the healer class and a race-specific cleanse on a particular race of characters (that ...

I feel like this would just lead to rez alts even more than what we'll already have. No party healer would use this, because you'd just lose your party's healer, so people would just have alts to do this.

Happy birthday, old man!

I prefer it because it leads to a much deeper mana gameplay and interactions. Giving everyone a special resource to manage (outside of the current way Intrepid is doing that) would just mean either no interconnectedness between the archetypes or would lead to an abhorrent amount of ability bloat. Special resources are nice in pve games because they enrich your own gameplay and that's the only thing you care about in the game. But in pvx/p games, imo, everyone should be influencing each other's gameplay, so super individualistic design of classes would be detrimental.

I don't quite get how something that interacts and affects everyone is limiting, while something that only interacts between a small group of archetypes is not limiting. If I have several abilities that interact with, say, tanks, but for whatever reason tanks fall out of meta and almost no one uses them, then I have completely useless abilities now (or at the very least, they don't have as much impact, if they have a double effect). Which is exactly why they sound boring as a mechanic and would require a ton of additional interactions to come close to mana's ...

I support genderless abuse. Remove kneeling and just add "sitting on the ground". This way instead of teabagging you'd be sitting on their dead face, and that's a genderless action, cause everyone has an ass.

Yeah, mana attacks against greens would have to be discussed and tested extensively. Rn I lean towards treating mana attacks as CCs, mainly because it'd be waaaay too ez to abuse this mechanic to avoid getting corruption while still winning against passive players. Could maybe treat it the same as hp attacks and make people corrupt if they brought a person to 0 mana, but that'd be a very controversial topic, I'd assume. Azherae's idea for the corruption system would work great here, but I doubt Intrepid would go for it.

We'll already be just a pile of ashes. There's no teabagging, because there's no hole to put your metaphorical balls into.

As long as it offends all genders and races equally - yes, it's better

Are you suggesting they grow a pair of balls to perform the very act they despise?! Amazing.

As much as we would all have loved for Intrepid to immediately have 100++ employees back in 2016 and for the backend problems of APOC times to not have happened, and for the 'rona to not have existed, and for UE5 to not have come out - all of those things still happened and all of them set back development by months each. UE5 might pay back that time, but that's still unknown. 7 years can only matter when you're a preestablished dev company with years of experience working together and with the engine working perfectly for your needs. ...

I'm utterly amazed at your ability to perceive an alpha stage as a completed game that will never change.

We do all solo players need to be in guilds together. And the game should be made for those guilds.

Noaani plays on a higher skill lvl, but even back in my days of L2, you'd fight till you died. The healer's job would be to keep you alive in whatever way. The hp bar itself didn't come into play. Only the binary options of "was that player under attack: yes or no". If someone was under attack - you heal them. If the healer was under attack - you protect him. And defensive movement would be based on the same thing. Are you being attacked? Move. Are you not being or about to be attacked? You can stay ...

Do explain what aspects you're talking about, because L2 pvp is still my favorite gameplay in my entire gaming career. And I've both played as a healer and played with amazing healers that I trusted completely. And those buffs will come from the bard. It's as if I've said this from the very start. Having a healer and a bard in your party will be very beneficial, and will most likely be more beneficial than just some additional dps. Also, we have no clue about that blink's CD. We have no clue about the amount of silence abilities in ...

I'd imagine there's gonna be a ton of resistances and buffs and debuffs related to these kinds of effects. People started panicking about it, but I think they did so because they're used to 100% debuff chances or smth.

So why are you still here then? If you're so sure that the game will be an unbalanced mess, why keep following it? Healing is now "too much"? Do you expect healers not to heal? In a 9-member party everyone has their own role and healer's just so happens to be "to heal". It's not too much, it's just enough. If anything, it's sometimes too much in the other way, because people still fail that role, due to their inability to heal well enough in hard situations. To clarify, the "to heal" role still requires way more work than ...

If they manage to design the cleric in a way where it can keep up some dps while providing enough healing - great.

I'm not sure what this is even about. Which builds? Aiming for what? Who's doing the aiming?
Post by Ludullu on 2023-05-07 07:13:20
I know that. What I don't get is the question. What even could be "the plan" here? Does the OP want Intrepid to provide their own builds to players? Afaik it's the players that come up with random combos of what's in the game to create "a build", but I don't see how Intrepid have anything to do with that. The only thing they could control in that matter is if they literally had only one race, only one class, only one gear set for the entire game and only one ability to use. That would be the only ...

I'm gonna test it once alpha2 is out. I didn't have $500 to test alpha1 back when it was online. "Have not bothered" implies that I could easily do so, but not everyone has $500 to just throw away. As for why I'm here, it's mainly because I like the current direction of the game, but I know for damn sure that majority of people don't. So I'm here to provide even at least the smallest voice to those who do like the game as it plans to be right now. You're that the game will be unbalanced, so ...

Steven copied a pvp system from ~20 years ago almost 1 to 1. He took death penalties from games from 20 years ago. He took the oldest mmo design of the holy trinity. He took big pvp content from pvp mmos of ~20 years ago (pretty much the same one that the pvp system is from, but other games also had it). He took open worldness of the same old mmos. He took the forced pvp at sea system from a 10y.o. game. He took the "party-based balancing and design targeting" from the 20y.o. games. He took the "no ...

So what exactly do you want and consider entertaining? More dps? Cause unless I assumed wrong, you seem to disregard pure healers as OP or smth, so pure healers are probably not fun for you either. And if you just want more dps on a healer, then I agree with Noaani, healer just doesn't seem like the role for you. Well then it's good that the game is pvx and not just pve. Any valuable pve will be fought over and you will not survive against a party w/ a healer if your party doesn't have one. And if ...

My latest suggestion had pretty much this exact mechanic, so I support this as well

What exactly does this entail, as you envision it?

Ah, ok, now these past few days make waaaay more sense. You've just got complaints about the standards of the genre, but you have no solutions for them, let alone properly thoughtout ones. Got it. And I'm gonna reread all your messages later just to make sure I'm not mistaken in this (and will edit this post later), but I think even your complaints have been super vague, which most likely stems from you not knowing what you even want. edit: I went through the 2 threads that touched on the cleric discussion and the main theme has been ...
