Any adventuring experience gain removes corruption - Thoughts?

Post by Ludullu on 2023-04-28 22:54:47

Yeah, currently the house is safe. I just see it not being safe for the Reds as a way to remove the abuse of "I got a ton of corruption... let me sit in this completely protected place and grind it all off".

Right, I forgot that they changed the private storage as well. PKers will be so damn fucked that no one will PK I personally don't like that.

The mage stream proved that melee animations are too flashy

Post by Ludullu on 2023-04-28 22:59:45

Like they said on the stream, these were second passes already. Which is why they looked cleaner. If anything, I'd say this was an indicator of the potential look of all the other abilities. They'll have less clutter, smaller vfx and will just overall look cleaner. And I'm sure they can polish them even better later on, on top of any options that we'll have when it comes to vfx scaling and all that. I'd imagine they haven't gotten to 2nd passes on the melee part before this showcase and I don't think they've mentioned anything about that during ...

Regarding the April 28th Livestream Q&A question "Will the meta for guilds be smaller guilds..."

Post by Ludullu on 2023-04-29 01:29:34

One of the biggest deterrents against "a bunch of small guilds" tactic that I see is mass pvp. In my experience it is veeery difficult to correctly control a mass of hundreds of people (let alone over a thousand). If the "meta" for big guilds is to just split their members into 40-man guilds and then put those into an alliance (4 guilds, so 160 members), any content/encounter that requires more than that amount of people would lead to potential friendly fire during pvp. Another, smaller, deterrent is guild politics. Huge guilds will most likely already have some form ...

Thank you

I was talking about the showcase itself, not the content. There's been a ton of discussions and feedback about the presentations during streams. And pretty much all of that feedback was implemented in this showcase. And imo (and apparently opinion of others) this was the best showcase of the past few months, if not even longer.

The Issue of Bots

Post by Ludullu on 2023-04-29 20:56:25

Isn't albion's hardest locations full loot though? So of course botters wouldn't go there because they'd lose too big of an investment. AoC won't be full loot, so even the seas might still see bots, though that will depend on how hard it is to control a boat.

Post by Ludullu on 2023-04-29 21:25:43

I'm not saying that it'll be exactly like this, but L2's open worldness led to a ton of people having subpar gear, when compared to the elites of their guild (usually just one party per a few dozen people). You'd have an alliance of ~200-300 people and out of those there'd be maybe ~30 people in tier T4 gear, while the majority were in T2-3, with T3 people sometimes in not full sets even. There's only so many mobs in the world that provide you with the proper materials for crafting. You'd need to hold down a location 24/7 ...

The keybinding predicament of AoC

Post by Ludullu on 2023-04-29 21:43:54

And who exactly are the majority in this case and what exactly are their preferences? Cause afaik wow didn't put their whole bar of abilities on letters instead of numbers (maybe I'm wrong here?). So "the majority" would've been accustomed to using those numbers or immediately rebinding to their own preferences. There's no majority when you're suggesting to move away from one of the bigger standards of the genre. Yes, other games had their own control schemes because they saw them as more convenient, but BDO has a whole damn different combat design and after going through ability bars ...

I'm not a twitter person so my mind didn't immediately go to the worst interpretation possible. So no, I just saw it as "go tell anyone who has the skills and is out of a job to sign up for an interview".

Resurrection in combat

Post by Ludullu on 2023-04-30 01:26:54

My OP says that I'm gonna ask about rez items and that was the question that got answered. The "in combat" part was purely a community feel thing. As others here said, alpha1 already had combat rez. Intrepid might still change that, but that's gonna be a thing to test in alpha2.

I have questions about the ability to "theorycraft" builds. What plan do devs have?

I'm assuming you're like super super super new to the game, so I highly recommend just going through this whole site https://ashesofcreation.wiki/Augments

Hard CCs (sleep) should be for action oriented skills

Post by Ludullu on 2023-05-01 01:20:34

I find the "tab or not" discussion here pretty silly. The easiest way to say whether smth is tab or not is to look whether you can use it w/o a target. And Slumber is literally blacked out w/o a target. So it's a tab skill. As for it's balancing and whatnot, as long as it gives high resistance to any further CCs to the target - I'm absolutely fine with it. In other words, if you Slumbered someone - the only effect of it is they're immobilize. You can't damage them, you can't really CC them further. DoTs ...

Hard CCs (sleep) should be for action oriented skills

Post by Ludullu on 2023-05-01 01:53:36

Yeah, it can be a bit confusing. I get why it's there, because there's a group of targets that you want to hit with the ability but you can target only one of them and that would be the "primary" target that the aoe is based on. But I do agree that primary could be removed w/o really losing the understanding of how the ability works.

Hard CCs (sleep) should be for action oriented skills

We can't flag on those people, but we haven't heard about attacking them if we're already flagged. I think this will be my next question for the q&a.

mage looks terrible -_- ill just leave this here, discuss

Considering that L2's mage weapons still had physical autoattacks, for me, yeah, this would be the first time when basic attacks matter.

Visual clarity of AoEs in PvP

You'll just have to skill it up and know If you don't know whose attack it was - that's a skill issue.

Levitation vs Ground Effecting AOE

Then the question is "where's the hitbox". If a ranger aims below the floating mage's feet, does he hit the mage?

Levitation vs Ground Effecting AOE

Post by Ludullu on 2023-05-02 03:19:46

Looks like ~1m off the ground. But even if it is kinda low, what about the height then. Can you hit a head shot higher now? In other words, I'm just curious whether those abilities influence the hitbox at all.

Sleep is OP

Post by Ludullu on 2023-05-02 07:06:22

I've played the pvp mmo that had this literal ability. It wasn't OP, it was barely even used, because people had resistances, people could hit each other out of sleep, some aoe would always hit awake or you'd just play better than be in a damn ball of people that can be aoe slept. Also, if the enemy party can coordinate their hits that well, while in a high pace pvp fight - they deserver to win. In my 12 years of playing that pvp mmo with this skill I knew maybe a few parties that were close to ...

Sleep is OP

Post by Ludullu on 2023-05-02 08:11:26

How many pve encounters happen in corridors that can then move through those corridors into rooms and back? In other words, how often do you interact with chokepoints and such (I'm talking harder pve and/or bosses)? I'd assume there's at least a few, but pretty much every dungeon pvp in L2 had nothing but choke points and tight spaces (in the context of party pvp) and the majority of your gameplay you'd spend in those dungeons. I'm not saying that this is a valid excuse for standing in aoes or just not foreseeing the possibility of them, but quite ...

Sleep is OP

And that's exactly why we need the ability to hit our mates. It would then make the sleep interaction a skill thing rather than a "you can't do shit about it" thing. I'd prefer if we could do that in owpvp as well, but I'd be willing to only have it in arena, purely because that's a much more controlled environment and parties that do arenas would definitely have way higher coordination in this regard.

Levitation vs Ground Effecting AOE

I know there aren't, I just meant the upper limit of the hitbox and whether it'd be higher during levitation.

Mage too much CC

Post by Ludullu on 2023-05-02 10:25:58

Do we know for sure if "sends them flying" is a hard CC? I don't remember if we've seen it in action before or heard about its effects. Also, is root really a hard CC? I thought hard meant "can't do anything at all". Root still allows you to use abilities, which means you might be able to cleanse it or just heal/protect yourself. So the true hard CC from a mage is the sleep and you can't receive dmg while asleep and we might be able to hit our mates awake, which would make sleep even weaker. In ...

Mage too much CC

Post by Ludullu on 2023-05-02 10:53:41

Yeah, I agree with that, but I also think that diminishing returns will address that. Or at least I think they should. I haven't played a game with that kind of effect so I saw it as just "additional dmg from falling". If it is just another form of stun, then here as well I'd assume diminishing returns will help deal with permastun combos.

Sleep is OP

Yep, I had the same assumption. Can't imagine a pvp mmo w/o a cleanse ability at least on one class, if not several.

Mage too much CC

Post by Ludullu on 2023-05-02 11:48:57

If we get good visual feedback about the timer of those diminishing returns then I think it'd be a great way to vary up pvp flow. Instead of just CCing the same 1-2 chars over and over, people would have to use their CCs against the entire enemy party and think about which CC would be better to use first. And then you'd need to keep tabs on the timer on the first target to properly time your CCs and their cds.
