Now imagine that but on the scale of a whole damn party doing that. This is exactly the shit that made me argue against Niem's idea of "let cleric just tp the whole damn party out as soon as a single dude dies". L2 had this in a very very slightly better way, because you always went to town there when you fast tped, while here you can just move 100m away to the closest tp spot. Now it should be said that the archer didn't have stuns or big bursts or anything like that. That was over 5 ...

It won't have success in the west, that's for sure. But I'm almost sure that it's gonna make at least a fwe hundred million in the east. It's a pretty game that you can play while you're grinding at work and that you'll be able to p2w to the top with all that money that you made at work. The perfect strat that's been working in the east for the past 30 damn years. Amazon just keeps messing up by buying up all these eastern mmos, because the west is just not ready for them. I'd give it a ...

Watched Asmon react to TL. I cannot wait for the absolute drop in playerbase of TL (from maybe 100k on release). Asmon hated it so much that he got tired

Yep, it me. You can change that in the settings of the bot. I'd assume that people with above average gear will set their bot to hit others' mobs.

At least do it once Ashes completely fails against the common opinion of the mmo normies that will treat it sliiiightly better than they're treating TL rn.

I'm almost sure that, by the time Ashes comes out, pvp and death penalties and long leveling and tab targeting and slower combat (I doubt it'll get much faster visually, even with feedback) - all will be pretty big negative points for the masses. If you watched that Asmon vod, he compares TL to BDO and shows a super messy aoe fight where you can't see shit and says "look how great this is, I'm sure there's no one who'd prefer TL over this". And I'm pretty sure that the longer we wait the more people there'll be who ...

My expectation for Ashes combat is that exact "makes you move" design. Add action abilities to the mobs and the appropriate AI to use it. And on top of that, the ability pool shouldn't be just face-tankable, even for tanks. Yeah, that combat didn't upset me at all. The only thing that upset me is the absolute absence of abilities shown. I'll check out TL streams closer to the end of cbt to see the variety (if there is any), cause by then people will probably farm some books and lvl up properly. L2's combat greatness came from how ...

Tank literally has a hook that drags their target to them. That hook also gives a debuff that turns into stun when tank uses another ability. And tank also has a dash that sets up a stun as well. Mage cannot do shit to the tank rn.

That's the ultimate goal imo. Did we have CC resistances in alpha1? Or were you just projecting beyond the "from what we've seen so far" part?
Post by Ludullu on 2023-05-25 20:55:29
True, but mage's movement during casting is pretty slow. And with blink's CD currently being the same as grapple's, the tank has one additional movement ability to catch up to the mage. And both of his movement abilities serve as soft CCs with a hard setup. So mage can try constant running, but that wouldn't give him that much dps. While tank at least has a chance to CC the mage and hit him on the head a few times. Slumber setups might pay off, but they'd be very risky because you'd have to come close for the max ...

You do know that majority of Lineage games right now have auto-battle, right? And outside of that automation, TL took pretty much everything else from L2: combat design, soulshots, guilds, sieges, transformations, pets, etc. The biggest difference is probably the "class" design.
Post by Ludullu on 2023-05-26 17:10:04
In TL? Dunno. I've seen more passives now and there's some choices that you can make to make a proper build, so there might be some good depth in TL classes too (especially considering that you can have double-class). L2 just told you "this class is exactly what this class is, that's it". TL kinda says "here's some stat points and weapons. Do what you want with them". And I feel like it's easier to make a good class/combat design when the devs can control it all. Will have to see if TL pulls off the freeform design.

Yeah, it definitely made me a bit more positive towards the game's potential. Saw some early20s pvp and it was already way better than super low lvl stuff (obviously). And I'm sure it's gonna be even better once we have all the lvls and all the books and people know what they're doing with their builds. In other words, the game will definitely fail in the west due to its base design, but I think it'll be super fun for those who don't care about that. Well, p2w notwithstanding.

I've been mainly watching a few hours of Steparu's streams here and there. They had a party farm, but it didn't look much different so far. Saw that world boss from the trailer (that has stones around him to "dodge" the attacks). The boss' dmg was not high enough to kill everyone who didn't dodge so everyone literally just stood in the same place and unloaded. I really hope they at least put some scaling on the attacks or smth, cause even L2's bosses felt a bit better At least the bigger ones did and maybe this was supposed ...

Sword/Shield seems standard. The one thing that Intrepid could look at is the push interactions, cause TL also has body collision and there's interaction with it. Though I think they're already kinda looking at it. Daggers are same. The only thing that stood out to me is that poison passive that has different additional boosts during day/night. Greatsword same. The only interesting thing is the rage build up, which makes you track your stuns, if you want to maximize your dps. Longbow same. The deadly marker is nice, cause party interaction and the downwind passive feels unique and would ...

This would mean that this whole forum's existence is pointless. We have maybe 20 people who have strong vocal opinions. And maybe a few dozen more that just say smth once a month in the dev discussion thread. If Intrepid only cared about the opinions of the thousands - they'd never even look at this forum.

This is the first time I even hear about this And judging by the wiki, this was only mentioned once and back in 2018. I somehow doubt that they're still a thing. If they somehow are then maybe they'd be similar to TOTK's ability to go through the ground? But that'd be super op so I'm not sure about that one.

Even if there's several hundred posters in those threads - that's still nothing compared to the millions of potential players. And I do think that we have a varied enough group of hardcore posters on the forum that if all of them said their own opinion on the ability design of TL, intrepid would have a rough estimate of how their potential TA would react to different designs. Or they'd at least get a direction that they can use in their own dev discussions.

This is probably my main response The game hits all the things I prefer Because of this^ I'll definitely play TL as much as I can until Alpha2 comes out.

It's a competitor in looks and optimization. No loading on TPs and the game looks incredible even though it's on UE4. And big gatherings of people seem to not lag all that much. I've heard that it's kinda bad on really old graphics cards, so I'm kinda fucked, but I dunno if UE5 will be any better in that regard.

This game didn't invent anything. They copied mechanics that have been in other mmos (mainly the Lineage series) for over a decade iirc. Yeah, the majority would definitely dislike it, but Ashes is targeting the older demographic and they're also planning to have a pretty hardcore game that requires a ton of time investment. Time that this old demographic doesn't have. This pushes that demographic towards rmt and/or botting (because they have the money for that). So, as much of a meme as it is, auto-play removes that push. Obviously the farm design suffers from that, but I do ...

Post by Ludullu on 2023-05-28 16:16:51
There's very few conveniences that the current mmo playerbase is used to. I hope I'm wrong, but rn I think that the game will just not appeal to the younger audience.
Post by Ludullu on 2023-05-28 16:49:01
Asmon himself said that his audience is ~28++. And I'm talking about 30-40 range. Those who were around teen years back when the inspirations for Ashes were still kinda popular and at their peak. Young audience is the current teens up to maybe 22-25. Pretty much anyone in studying period of their life (outside of those who're studying at 40 cause their life allows them to). Steven is kinda making the game for himself, so people around his age would most likely be the TA, because they'd be the most likely ones to have a similar life experience and ...

Oh, I'm not saying they're making another TL. Just that the current overall design will clash directly with the supposedly younger-targeted combat. Even if they succeed in making a combat that appeals to the action players, there'll still be open world pvp, no TPs, death penalties, contested open world dungeons, open world bosses that give BiS instead of instanced ones, party-required gameplay, very long leveling times, no flying for 99.9% of players - all of those are mainly oldschool design choices. And it's those things that make me think that the current young gamer population won't like the game ...
