Yep, this was pretty much what I was talking about. We'll just have to see how it pans out in AoC's case. It's more of a "what other pvp game is even out there". I feel like BDO has cornered the pvp mmo niche right now, due to it pulling in both the pvpers and the action combat people. I'd imagine that sunk cost fallacy plays a big role in that consistency. How many new players does BDO get in a month? Is there even a way to know that? Cause considering its design, I'd assume that majority of ...

Yeah, I imagined as much, considering that other KR companies are not copying BDO and instead copy the NCsoft model or maybe LA. Would that then mean that, if Ashes manages to make their combat as good as they can, they'll compete with BDO? Can they even compete against the sunk cost of all those players, with both games requiring big time investments (BDO does, right?)? This can definitely be the saving grace for Ashes as well and seems to be the route that quite a few western mmos are trying to take. Make a pretty and cool world ...

As you said, for me it's about the game I like and its mechanics. L2 had a "door" system for its biggest and most valuable bosses. The boss would always be in the same "room", would have a semi-variable respawn timer (i.e. 5 days +-6h), the loot would go to those who dealt the majority of the dmg. The room would unlock when the boss respawns and anyone would be able to enter the room. One of the bosses had a "wake up" mechanic where the first person that entered his room could go touch a statue and the ...

Imo item drops is not the main goal of pvp. I think that mainly because flagging up decreases the amount of the stuff you'll drop on death. If Steven wanted everyone to just farm each other for mats, I doubt he'd go with that kind of design. As I see it, pvp is there to just compete for the sources of those mats, be it mobs, bosses, quests or gatherables. If you get some mats from the dead player - great, that's a bonus, but I don't see it being the main goal.

You see, that is just the wrong approach. It doesn't suck, because you can just not use it and be better than everyone who does. It literally makes it easier to be better than casuals.
Post by Ludullu on 2023-05-29 12:39:02
And the goal would still not be the "I want that person's items/mats".

And that is my exact point. Every casual player will be using autobattling. But because manual battling is way more profitable, you'll be way ahead of those autobattlers. Which means that autobattling is beneficial to anyone who doesn't use it.

Nope. They'll never come back. You've missed them forever.

Autobattling helps casuals feel like they're not that far behind. They have a sense of progress even when they can barely play the game. All while the hardcore players can still stay ahead (while also using the autobattling a few times). If the progression is "casual players feel like they're progressing", that usually means that any hardcore player is fucking years ahead of any casual or, at the other side of the extreme, they have literally nothing to do in the game. Or the LA approach of "you reach top lvl within a few hours and they you grind ...

This is why quite often the KR mmos lean way more towards pvp, because that's their main content and the pve is just a background, which is fine to automate at that point. I think the "perfect" mmo will be a game with automated ez base pve, where a ton of pvp happens, a ton of artisan activities with their own cool design, pvp events and then some proper hardcore pve for those who want it. So, in a way, Ashes with autobattling Well, that is if they succeed at good pve, which, I guess, will be shown in ...

I won't believe that game is real until it gets the Ashes alpha1 treatment of hundreds of people streaming/recording its gameplay in a fairly big location, with working mobs/bosses and quests.

Basic consumers don't use several accounts at the same time. And any consumer that does would've done so in any other design as well, so they would've been even further away from any basic consumer of that game. And if the game prevents you from launching several instances of it at the same time - the amount of advanced consumers would be even smaller. Autobattling just equalizes the power floor of the game, no matter how actively you play it. Though again, this only matters in the context of a pvp(x) game. Obviously a pve mmo should not have ...

Yes, the game does in fact have group-based design. But even groups won't save their PKer from the BH, because they'd have to go red to do so, at which point it would just become an endless downward spiral of PKers, who will all die sooner or later. The people will still PK or at the very least flag up against others, both in a party situation and solo.

Except I've never said that. I said that autobattling mobs helps them not get too far from the hardcore players. The hardcores will still be ahead, mainly because they'd do exactly what you're talking about. They'll use several accounts, maybe even on several PCs. But that is literally always the case with harcore players. That's what makes them hardcore. A casual player will almost never use multiple accounts or anything of the sort, cause why the hell would he. But if he felt that instead of a 100% difference in power the autobattling helped him stay at around 30-40% ...

Haven't played a single one and when I play TL I doubt I'll be using it all that much, because I'll just grind the game with my own hands. Yes, casuals will always be around the same lvl, but I'm talking about their relation to the hardcores. W/o autobattling you either have a grand canyon of difference between the two or the hardcores don't even have anything to do so they just leave. With autobattling the casuals will just be a bit closer to hardcores, so they won't die in one shot, which will create an illusion of a ...

Yeah, that's true, but I'd imagine that this kind of behavior would quickly turn into a good ol' guild war or just an all-out brawl with several BHs or passerby groups. And the BHs themselves might have a healer for these exact situations. Either way, I really hope that Intrepid stick with the BH idea and, ideally, even expand it.
Post by Ludullu on 2023-05-31 10:53:21
But that's my point though. Autobattling keeps them progressing at all. W/o it they'd just play their 1-2h a day and be completely stuck in low lvls (in the context of L2-like grindy mmos of course). Hardcores will be ahead no matter what, but autobattling keeps the casuals at least moving forward at all times. Any casual that wants to play pure manual when they can would always be welcomed to do so, while hardcores would just always be manual because they're always playing. And the good pve/p content would happen during primetime and be manual due to its ...

They also do well in the CIS countries, because the gaming culture here comes from the same internet cafes. But it still got transferred to post-cafe times, because people still just want to hang out in the game and not flame each other for failing a single mechanic during a boss. People here (as well as in asia) are also more fine with being a "cog in the machine" rather than a super individualistic personality. Which leads most to think "a few deaths here and there won't matter as much, as long as they lead to the success of ...

Looks nice enough for the current stage of development. I'd say his rage dmg was a bit low and the adds (wolves) didn't seem to do much at the end. Gonna rewatch the fight later and look out for other POVs to see if anything else stands out. But overall, if this is a somewhat basic open world boss rather than a super unique one - this is great. But if this is supposed to be a unique boss with very good drops and rare respawn - I'd definitely want him to be way harder and have more intricate ...

Considering the response to my q&a question, the mage has just become a bit stronger. You can't hit your mates awake, so Slumber is now a stronger CC. Yes, bard has a dispel for Slumber, but that stuff will have a CD and bard could be dead or not have mana or just absent completely. If sleep resistances won't be all that strong, several mages in a party might definitely become a viable party setup. And a well-coordinated party would be able to out-CC enemies through well-placed Slumbers. We'll have to see how this survives alpha2, if at all. ...

Yeah, we'll have to see how it interacts with other abilities, but considering the bard's mention, I feel like only that spell and non-mate attacks will wake you up.

https://ashesofcreation.wiki/Reputation Excessive negative reputation may cause a character to be deemed "enemy of the state" of a node.[1] This is mainly a potential for the thing you're asking about, but I do think Intrepid will get enough feedback about "the baddies" in nodes to implement smth along those lines.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=790X_vkraVo This is a pretty basic open world boss in L2. Add an aoe and a tree to hit and you got yourself the Cyclops from the showcase. It's a cute backdrop for pvp, but nothing much outside of that. It has basic buffs, a stun and a buff cancel. The point of this post is this. If Cyclops is a boss like that - just a strolling boy that you can kill every 1-2 days - that's great. But if it's supposed to be a unique low lvl raid boss, I'd definitely want way more than what was ...

Totally understandable and definitely hope we get some sort of clarification on the "scale" of this boss. I'd assume they showed this one off because they don't have better AI for a more complex boss, but as you said in the feedback thread - they might've as well just brushed up the Twins and showed them off again. This was definitely a very "I dunno how exactly to react" kind of stream. And with the announcement of alpha2 sales closing soon I'm now really doubting myself whether I wanna buy in before it does or whether I just wait ...

Iirc Steven said that this is a raid boss and they could do it with 2 parties cause they're devs and know the mechanics. A raid in Ashes is 40 people. But even outside of that. It's like I said, if this is in fact just a normal boi who's meant to be killed every day - yeah, it was kinda perfect. Just a cute backdrop for the potential pvp around him. But then we come to Azherae's question: why show this boss instead of anyone with better mechanics or a harder fight. Alpha1 already had a better boss ...

Was it mechanically for players though? All they needed to do was just dps. And clearics would heal a bit after a boss ability here and there. Yes, boss had a few additional mechanics (that I mentioned), but it didn't change anything on player side. This was just the video I could find of this boss, cause L2's too old to have a ton of different videos of older content. This boss is required for a very important quest, so you'd have a ton of pvp on it. Also, the players in that video are at the top of ...

Yeah, as I said, the boss would be fine if it's meant to be background for pvp, but at that point I'd prefer if Intrepid told us as much. So this might be the biggest point of feedback for future raid/pve showcases. State clearly what the thing being shown is supposed to be or at least planned to be. Maybe I missed it during the stream, but I feel like I didn't get an indication of whether this boss was supposed to be super simple or whether it's meant to be challenging. Right now, even with pvp, this boss ...
