Most definitely. And I think this is why pvp games don't live too long. Cause there's only a limited amount of people with that kind of "skill". And exactly why all the current L2 players still play on older versions of the game, because their "skill" is maxxed out and they can endlessly pvp against others, winning and losing yet always persevering. And I personally dunno what kind of game design could help players hone that skill w/o just having pvp in it and saying "go git good". I hope Intrepid can figure that out and make the most ...

And as the video I posted says, and I agree, if you decide to learn that knowledge to gain benefit from it - you're hardcore about the game. Also, just having knowledge doesn't always = ability to utilize it to its fullest potential. And that takes time. Yes, it'll take less time because you've got super hardcore friends, but how many people have those kinds of friends? And I'd bet that even fewer people have hardcore friends that would give them hardcore-lvl gear. At which point we're going into discussion of "how many people are we considering in our ...

Guess we have different views on who's casual and who's hardcore. But we have differing opinions on pretty much every single topic so there's nothing new there.

And this is the main reason why a lot of people just saying "go play another game". Because we've seen what this kind of feedback can snowball into (namely New World). Now obviously corruption is needed and should indeed dissuade people from just PKing everyone they see, but if it's so damn punishing for just 1 kill that you have to spend a week dealing with the consequences - you have yourself and opt-in pvp system where no one will pvp in the open world (cause it's too risky to attack someone who might die and get your character ...

And in my PKing experience you kill someone to remove them from the premises, whichever they might be. Yes, with lootable resources there'll be some PKing for said loot, but I feel like that will be very rare cause I doubt the loot % will be huge. If some dude was farming some super rare resource and has 10 of it in his inventory, I'd assume he'll lose 1-2 on a default death. While the PKer will definitely have to leave that farming location because he'd be hunted and killed on sight by any other player. And if you ...

But that's the great thing about greens not flagging when attacking a corrupt player. They can in fact just kill you, because you if, as a red, kill them - you'll get doubly fucked. And then continue down that path with each new person. So in Ashes, Reds will most likely run away from greens. So there's always a potential of the PKer getting killed. But as I've suggested before, I'd prefer the corruption removal time be semi-reasonable, but BHs would have a time buffer for a free kill on the ex-PKer and the PKer being unable to flag ...

What if the higher the OE step you failed on, the more resources you'd get back through the destruction system? So that you could either sell them or trade them to the people who need it to craft that same gear, or you could just use them to recraft the gear itself with only a 1-2h investment on top of what you've already done. It was kinda this way in L2, because failed OE gave you crystals that were used in a ton of crafting recipes, so you'd recoup at least some of your investment (though not too much, ...

But that's the same answer to the whole BH system, which is one of the reasons I suggested what I did. In your example, nothing would prevent you from going unpunished, mainly because your whole group of friends is ready to go corrupted for you. But how many such groups are there? Especially considering that with each kill you'll get more and more corruption (either on one player or several). And I can't really answer that question because my experienced is too skewed towards a much less punishing system, so it was completely fine to PK some randos that ...

Just to make sure. 40% of players in your circles would be ready to grind mobs for hours upon hours upon hours just over one person going red for whatever their reason was? Cause this is the rough sequence of events I see happening with this system. Let's say it takes an hour of solo farming of mobs of your lvl to remove corruption from one kill. Depending on how Intrepid decides to distribute XP in a party, you might either add or shave off 10 mins to/from that hour. Assuming this corruption clearing is happening with a party ...

But it wouldn't be pvp though. You'd be gaining your future punishment. I believe you that your people would totally be up for some great pvp, cause mine would too (and dear god would've your people loved L2 for exactly those reasons). But considering AoC's PK penalties, your evening of "pvp" would mean that in the end you're set back by days/weeks, could lose your gear or just potentially break some of it due to heightened decay on death (which would have to be multiple, cause you've been PKing people for a while). So what I'm trying to say ...

Yes, you don't need to, but in quite a few cases you might have to. Well, that is if you care about the thing you were doing at the time when you were presented with a choice of "pvp or stop doing said thing".

I'd definitely prefer that because that would help me in pvp, but people love their god damn transmogs too much so even if the game has those sets, unless they look just incredible - people ain't wearing them.

I meaaaan, you could put all those 3d artist to great use and literally make unique models for all gear piece across all tier and types look unique on each class. Would not only add to the RP part of the game and the class identity, but would also look great during sieges because people would look less samey (that is if you disable the limits on gear visuals in big fights).

Ah, the good old Shillen Knight mage build. I did that back on one private server cause I got my hands on a +16 Arcane Mace worked out well enough, but definitely not due to the build itself.

BiS will be crafted (as well as dropped), but there might be "stronger" 1 of a kind unique gear pieces that drop from bosses. And we'll only see what that "stronger" means once we have the full picture of all the gear in the game.

The expectation is: the game will come out in several years. Any other expectation is people's fault. If you sit there and come up with insane shit in your head - that's on you, not on Intrepid. And if you then cannot adjust what you came up with to what the game will have - that's an even bigger issue. Cyberpunk failed at that exactly because they promised a shitton and then didn't have most of the things they promised. Intrepid haven't promised anything concrete so far, they've only vaguely described what they wanna have in the game. Now, ...

The only ones making it ugly are the entitled people who think there's some arbitrary time limit that they themselves have put on Intrepid. The only thing that can prevent the game from coming out whenever it wants is if all the whales stop buying monthly cosmetics, and I somehow doubt that's gonna happen just because Intrepid haven't shown classes or augments before alpha2.

I mean, that's a valid assumption, but at the very least back in APOC they didn't have the classic $10 for 999 currency. https://ashesofcreation.wiki/Embers That gives me some hope that they won't use those types of scummy tactics, but we'll have to see. As for the reason - you're probably right in the assumption that it's to separate in-game purchases from spending irl money. There miiight be some kind of law that prohibits direct trading of $ for items, but I doubt it, considering other games have already done that afaik.

I still give them a chance to show augments in their full glory (if there is any). Cause quite often there's barely more than 10 "classes" in an mmo either way. You might have several elemental mages or a few flavors of melee fighters, but most of the time their core gameplay is very similar. The attacks achieve same results, debuffs have very similar effect, buffs increase similar (or sometimes same) stats. So in a way those 64 "classes" can still be called classes in their usual mmorpg meaning. But to be sure about that, we'll first have to ...

It also allows them to have regional prices. Especially if they stick with the "no transfers" policy (or at least no cross-regional transfers).
Post by Ludullu on 2022-06-11 00:57:24
But that's my point though. I can't give an example from other games, and maybe even other games have better "classes", but in L2 there were 5 mage classes. Pretty much all of them had different stats due to being different races, but their base function didn't really change (outside of one of them who got added later on). They had different elemental bases, but outside of just a few abilities they were pretty much recolors. Though you could even exclude one of the mages cause he's in-between a summoner and a mage. But even with all of that, ...

That link doesn't really tell me anything cause I'm not familiar with EVE's economy/items, but value-wise how much did that big alliance win considering their troop investment. Also, how much resources did they spend to achieve the win? As I see it, so long as the bigger force spends more resources to siege and win a smaller node than the resources they get out of that node - the system is "balanced". And with defenders, allegedly, having advantages over the attackers, the force sizes might balance out somewhat too.
Post by Ludullu on 2022-06-11 03:05:55
56th reference here says non-registered dudes won't be let into the siege field. If you have a lvl3 node with lvl 25-30 dudes and a lvl6 node with lvl 50 top gear dudes and the lvl6 node, for whatever reason, decides to siege lvl3 - lvl3 is fucked. Which is why I said that there should be a higher cost for that kind of siege on the stronger side. Also, we don't know how the defenders will be picked if Intrepid decides to have sieges as instanced battles. Every citizen is registered as the defender, but who knows who ...

But with something like animation locking of casts and that animation being based on your stats, you'd see your character's progress when you use your skills. I loved that at the start of L2 the game was quite slow and it took more time to cast stuff, but when you were at the top lvl you'd be hitting dudes left and right within seconds and mages would be casting their incantations much faster too, exactly because they've been doing it for months already. I find it kinda silly when you don't have such progress in a game.
