Depending on how profession progress will work, guilds will most likely have their own crafters at the peak of each artisan profession. And then they might sell their services to other people to earn some money on top of the potential sales of the crafted gear.

As much as I'd love to have L2's free sieges where everyone can come to the siege and help out either side w/o being registered - that's the most direct path to zergs being the way to go in the game. I've had countless sieges where the defending small guild would partner up with a huge guild and get protection for the siege. Now that's obviously a cool social interaction for the game, but it's only cool when you're on the receiving side of the protection. Quite often you're not. So depending on how they go about controlling registers ...

You want me to be personally responsible?!!? Wtf is this bullshit?! I can't be personally responsible for the things that I do! I need the devs to always hold my hand, never give me anything more than what I paid for and then even tell me "don't buy more or you'll buy too much!". Though even that won't help cause I'm so deep into self-imposed desire to buy meaningless things that I have to be physically stopped by the game to prevent myself from buying things!! NO PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY!

Was that in guilds that just invited random people during the game itself? Cause I'm used to guilds that gather together way before the launch, plan their actions ahead and have designated people who know for sure they'll go down some particular progress path. And even if they leave, they'd usually share their acc info with others in the guild, so they could use the character.

And there's plenty opt-in pvp games. And I think it's fine to have one non-opt-in pvp game once a decade (give or take maybe another game).

And the griefers will be punished. If that's not enough for the victims of said griefing, I guess Ashes will die sooner or later. But I'd rather see it die the game it wants to be than live for maybe a bit longer and still die, because it would become just like all the other non-pvp games and gamers will just return to their old nostalgia games instead of sticking around in Ashes.

How though? Does gcd become smaller at higher lvls? Isn't it the same across all lvls and classes?
Post by Ludullu on 2022-06-11 23:11:47
And that's the kind of hybrid that Intrepid's trying to do
Post by Ludullu on 2022-06-11 23:32:28
I meaaaaaan, if Intrepid's plan to develop a good hybrid doesn't work out, they'll go full tab. And I'm the andiest andy on this forum when it comes to tab (as long as there's no fucking gcd).

I haven't. Though I'm not sure how exactly that relates to my comment.

A first archetype tank can't be an off tank, because his main role is to tank. Off tanks will be the classes that take tank as their secondary archetype.

Except it doesn't share shit. It's a faction-based opt-in pvp game where anyone can kill anyone as long as both sides opted into the pvp. You're not punished for killing a lowbie. Faction-based pvp mmos are the fucking bane of pvp mmos' existence. They've ruined any credibility a pvp mmo could have. And people keep bringing up L2 here because Steven literally took its pvp system, made it better and more casual/lowbie-friendly and said "go have fun". Now what he also needs to do is to add a proper gear balance. L2's gear tiers allowed lower lvled players to ...

Corruption system will prevent that PKer from doing it more than, maaaybe, a few times. You kill one lowbie - you're already in deep shit and are getting hunted by BHs. You kill another one? Now you can't kill anyone because your stats are in the trash and you'll have to grind for days/weeks to remove your future XP debt. Your gear will most likely break and some of it will probably drop, because you'll have to die multiple times with x4 penalties on each death. Only a small fraction of the pvp population would be willing to just ...

Definitely hope that will not be the case, but yes, we'll have to see what the testing shows us.

I'd say Ashes has 8 roles (if Intrepid manage to develop them that way) and they each have 7 functional branches on top of those roles. I definitely hope each class is as different from each other as possible, but as I said in a previous comment, in most games classes are quite similar within their roles, so as long as the game requires every tool that each class has - I feel like classes will feel different enough. Especially if class switching is really expensive/hard/long.

Different resources that you might need for crafting. Different bosses that might drop some gear you want. Different quests, because that part of the world might have higher lvled nodes of types that haven't been leveled in your region. Just for the sake of traveling to other parts of the world to see them.

Yes, all of those things are true, but if high lvl players/gatherers can still benefit from killing low lvl mobs - they'll fight low lvl players that are farming those mobs/resources and will just annihilate them in pvp. And I personally think this should be avoided.

As they should be. A dude who played for 10h shouldn't do content that people, that have played for months, are doing. A lvl20 player probably won't have the quantity of resources to warrant a caravan run instead of just a mule. But if they do have that many resources, they'd probably want to sell them to higher lvled players. And if you need to run a caravan to those high lvl players - go talk to them and say "you want my resources? Go help me transfer them". And those high lvl players will be interested in helping ...

Wanna hear a funny thing? That's almost exactly how L2's arena worked The most you could do is to just look at your own points or at some other player's points, but you never saw the full ladder. And at the end of the month, the dude with the most points would get the best weapon in the game (in the earlier updates), super strong abilities and the title of a Hero. Worked just fine. You had to know your opponents, you had to do your own research, and even then you might've not known who'd be at the ...

That's only an opinion because devs put themselves into a dead end. Intrepid's trying to get away from that dead end by having longer leveling process and having interesting content across all lvls. No one's stopping low lvl players from participating in some particular content, but they should expect to get killed, while interacting with said content, if there's high lvl players doing the same thing. To have a sense of character progress. If you don't want that, there's quite a few genres that just give you all the tools immediately and you go and play with them. Even ...

From what I've seen they were mainly hp/skill parsers for pvp. I think I mainly used them for auto-potion use. Definitely never heard of them being used in pve outside of seeing the boss' exact hp values (which I think should be the default option in a game). Though maybe it was just the servers I was playing on, who knows. And yet the current biggest pve mmo looks down on them and even had a huge scandal related to the very concept of addons, let alone dps meters. And from what I know FF14's dev team tests their ...

Yeah, and in due time the ones guessing would've come to the same result. So if anything you're just playing an easier game than them. And again, if even the devs can beat their own hardest content w/o that shit - players should be able to do the same. Though I hope that players somehow learn that devs use dps meters too that would've been amazing, though I doubt that's the case.

I guess I'm just a "hit a nail with my palm until I completely nail it" kinda guy. I'd rather spend a bit more time figuring stuff out on my own, get used to the mechanics/systems/combos and get a better understanding of how they interact with each other, rather than just look at software that directly tells me what the best combo is once I hit the buttons in a particular way.

Then what is the difference between having the tracker and just timing yourself on some random mob w/o a tracker? If we do literally the same things, but I have a list of the things I've done in my head (or hell, even just written on a paper) while you use a 3rd party tool - what advantage does the tracker bring?
Post by Ludullu on 2022-06-13 01:44:08
So yeah, like I said, I'm the guy that uses my palm instead of a hammer. We'll come to the exact same result, but I just won't use 3rd party software to do so.

I have issues with all the things I've heard associated with them. The only good things I've heard about it could be done w/o them, while all the bad things I've heard about them stem directly from their existence. Imo it's similar to the party finder discussion. With an automatic party finder, all you're looking for is a role representative, while with chat-based party finding a person could negotiate their place in a party w/o directly fitting the role required. Well at least I've personally invited people that didn't fit the role needed, but still did the job just ...

Then I guess we'll just have to wait and see what Intrepid decides to go for and if they do indeed allow trackers, we'll see if it does indeed avoid WoW's issues. I definitely hope it does in that case. I won't be using them, but if Intrepid allows them, I ain't gonna yell at people to "get off my fucking lawn". Yeah, that's definitely one of the more questionable design choices right now. Will definitely have to test the hell out of it and all of its consequences in the alpha/betas. Same as with a calculator. It'll be ...

As I said, if Intrepid allows them, I won't care for them but I won't be telling people to never use them. My first post here still wouldn't change "fuck dps meters". That will be my opinion even if Intrepid has them in the game. Neither have I. Usually I was one of the main sources that people in the game came to if they wanted to know smth. And I could only be that source because I've played each class, in each setup, on top of talking with other players about their experiences. And I didn't use any ...
