I think smth like Nvidia's Shadowplay feature (but built into the game itself) getting triggered once a player hits "report" would streamline the process for GM and would also prevent false reports, like those that plagued NW. And you could then even penalize the false reporters. But all the face/identity tracking seems a bit too dystopian for me. I'd hope we can push that kind of stuff away for as long as possible. Especially considering that some places have already implemented that shit.

Back when I played and pvped the whole game was about chat and socializing, so I did in fact talk to a lot of people. And considering that I'd spend weeks/months fighting the same ones, I'd get to know them somewhat well. And in my experience 10-20% were the completely levelheaded people who understood that it was just a game and we just had a war, so there was no reason to shittalk/flame your opponent. The other 80% were just on the range of "oh fuck off you noob" to the type of quotes I wrote in the previous ...

If 10-20 seems high to you, then I'd throw that up to me playing on older updates of the game, so at least a good chunk of players were on the older side so they were a bit more reasonable than your average edgy/jackass kid.

I mention RP because at the very start I said "you could RP as a good guy and donate w/o my suggested system". And I said so because, as I keep saying, most people in my experience, don't just share their stuff with people. But if they were RPing as a good guy - they would. And your main counter to my suggestion of "just do it" is exactly why I keep mentioning RP. Because, imo, only an RP person would just give away their gear, with maybe a few exceptionally good people that just wanna support others (like ...

Wait, Azherae is a she? Not like that changes anything, but that's good to know for future reference, cause I'm pretty sure I've been referencing her as a he

Yyyyep, I've spent waaaaay more time in random rooms of L2's dungeons, than I ever did around the boss. Now there's the fact that L2 had hardcore grinding as the main means of spending time in game, so I dunno if Ashes will have the same design, but I at least hope that it'll be as Dygz said, we can go into a dungeon w/o the plan being just "let's go kill the boss".

Pretty much what James said. The friction would come from limited amount of rooms with the mobs that you need and/or some rooms being controlled by the warring guild's members. Here's 2 examples of maps. One is a huge dungeon with an Epic Boss at the end (Steven has mentioned it on streams before) and the other is an event-based Catacomb w/o a boss (iirc). Depending on how good your gear is, your whole party could be taking one small room and refreshing your buffs/mana in-between respawns, or you could do this type of shit https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UZfCHHtTKBE And if you ...

And here's a vid with some low lvl pvp at the start and high lvl pvp in and around a dungeon. It's pretty much all against guild war enemies, but that's who your pvp would usually be against, so it's a good example of how farming would go. If you're on the side of enemies in the video - you're just farming and then see your enemies running towards you to stop your farm (I'd say this was more frequent than them just wanting to farm the same spot). Mobs would get involved because aoes would fly around so ...

I thiiink their gear is shimmering, which is at least +6 iirc (haven't played on classic/super new servers, so not as well-versed on this feature). And their halberd is +10, so it's definitely the case of overgeared to all hell. Mobs are the same lvl as the farmer cause their names in the target window are white. Safe enchant lvl being +3. Though I'd assume they used some safe enchant scrolls that don't burn your item on failure. On top of that, the mobs are only x5 hp, so they're not as fat as some of the higher lvled ...

Yeah, usually you'd go to more difficult farming places if you had that kind of boost. Though that depends on the ease of farming and level of pvp danger. Higher lvled locations might've been taken by their guildmates or warring guilds. Or they just didn't feel like using the other characters/players too much (I'd assume those support characters are not all driven by different people, if any at all), so this kind of farm was more beneficial. Plus there's the option of preferred loot. They might've been going for some specific thing they wanted to drop and this was ...

Which would turn the game into NW and we all saw how that looked like.
Post by Ludullu on 2022-06-21 20:37:26
The only thing I'm sure of is that we didn't see how it would've been in its original state. Well, alpha testers saw it and apparently cried so much that they changed it? Do we have any NW early testers that can provide an example of how it worked back then? Or was the difference in the overall design so huge that they're incomparable?

Even the super small slice of classic WoW that I tried (up to lvl 30), I highly disliked the fact that at lvl 28-30, mobs in the very first location still dropped shit for me. With my super bias towards L2, this feature was just baffling to me, cause why da hell would you let high lvl players benefit from low lvl locations/mobs. And this is definitely the biggest reason why I hope that artisanal professions can be balanced in such a way that low lvl players can stay low lvl and still be super useful because their artisanry ...

I'd say "fuck dps" and go with "add more utility stuff". Add a fire add that requires a water mage/augment to put out, and w/o putting out the add the farm can't continue. Add a frozen lake under a mud golem and make players thaw the ice in order to make the golem start dissolving, but you'd have to first put some fire resistances onto the boss so that his clay body wouldn't harden from all the fire attacks that melted the lake. That kind of shit is way more fun to me than just having dps/gear checks. And ...

Mule runs being completely safe. I'd imagine a lot of people will use them in the game as the safer version of caravans because most people would be scared of x2 corruption, but if anyone wanted the resources in that mule (if they knew the transporting player and their value) - they could still risk it. I think others have mentioned it before, but I dunno how pvp-dislikers would look at node wars as a concept. To me that's literally owpvp on a huge scale and a kind of replacement of L2's guild wars (because AoC's GWs will be ...
Post by Ludullu on 2022-06-21 23:32:24
I mean, in the current design mule is supposedly a way safer way to transfer your goods. On a pve server it would be THE safest way, because anyone who might partake in pvp, would most likely raid caravans fairly often. If you remove mules from the game to push the pvp onto players, you've created a "feelsbad" moment where a player might lose a ton of their resources or would have to run upwards of 100 times between their destinations to avoid that loss. I know that Dygz loves to imagine that solo caravans won't be attacked or ...

I guess it is an argument for me because, as shown in the video I posted in your thread, guild wars in L2 were the bread and butter of the pvp there. And it was usually "non-consensual" (even though you consented to it by being in a guild with a war). So to me, a change towards "goal-based" guild wars is a change from owpvp. But node wars was the direct replacement to that. And with that in mind, as I already stated, I dunno how pvp-dislikers would feel towards that feature. At least in their day-to-day life. Obviously ...

Way more than 50%, which will usually then snowball into bigger asks. But I get your point. L2 had an "anti-chaos character" buff where PKers couldn't attack the person with the buff. That buff was given out by an npc in any town for free. But that's just another anti-PK system rather than an anti-PvP one. Also, considering the "sub-40 no pvp" thing. In your opinion, how should artisanal levels correlate with the adventure lvl, if at all? Cause I could see that as a huge potential hole, if a sub-40 dude could be a top lvl artisan and ...

Azherae is not arguing against it, she's trying to see a deeper point that makes this kind of system truly required. This is just a discussion that's trying to get to a deeper point than just throwing around opinions or preferences, yet most people here are just trying to attack each other's dick size. Both discussions are ultimately pointless, but one at least brings deeper understanding of the mechanics/features and reasonings behind them, while the other literally provides no benefit to any of the sides of said discussion.
Post by Ludullu on 2022-06-22 01:14:43
And both me and Azherae want pvp to remain in the game. And not only remain, but be encouraged in such a way where the most amount of people will enjoy it. And Azherae was trying to understand what would change, if pvp was disabled around lower lvls, because having it disabled there might ease way more people into enjoying it at higher lvls. But so far the true reason behind this design is "just cause I wanna 4Head". Any idea can only become its best self after you've tried any and all ways to counter it and it ...

Why would I care for other nodes, when I have either limited time to do my own things (cause I'm time casual which is why I'm playing on a pve server) or I don't want to unnecessarily pvp. Singing up for another node's siege is just you spending time on pvp that has 0 relation to your own needs. I'd assume most people that go to PvE server don't waste their time on such things. Obviously you would because you enjoy pvp, just in limited amounts, but I'm talking about most people. If anyone has any kind of stats/info ...

Simple protection. I've led lvl56 summoners in L2 into veeery deep rooms in different dungeons. Didn't really have any problems.

That is if there is anyone willing to PK an entire group of people, also while the targeted group doesn't fight back at all. That's a very limited amount of cases.
Post by Ludullu on 2022-06-22 02:07:21
Just to make sure, by "dec" do you mean "declare war on their guild"? Cause if yes, afaik that's a fairly bigger and more involved process than just pressing a button when you need it.
Post by Ludullu on 2022-06-22 02:14:35
Yep, that's always the case this is exactly why any of my "fun" stories from L2 would sound like ramblings of a masochist to any pvp-disliker. And when I say that I want Ashes to have the exact same system as the one that led to me having those stories - people get spooked and say the game will die right on release because all pvp games have died in the past.

I hope so dearly that T&L doesn't turn to utter shite, but that hope is barely even an ember. And AA2 is not too far from there too. The chances are, both will be shitty p2w games where you can't do anything in pvp unless you've dumped a truckload of money onto the dev studio

This will be my option if low lvl gatherers are a widespread strat. Have done so for years already, so nothing new.
