To the Action Combat Fans

But it would just be an additional thing to track. Yes, you can just click a button to return to your target, but your cast might've been broken and you're now on some big cd w/o the effect or you might've been paying close attention to another thing and missed a few frames of action which led to an imbalance of the encounter. It'd just be another tool for boss encounter design, which might trip up low-mid skill players while also requiring more from the top lvl ones.

Community Driven Voiceover Discussion:

NPCs will already have audio greetings. https://ashesofcreation.wiki/Voice_acting Outside of that, I doubt Intrepid could legally use other people's voices for extensive VA.

Those interested in the Spot Test + Qualitications

We're all interested in testing it. But the ones who will do it will be the few chosen ones from already preestablished alpha1 testers. So everyone who weren't in alpha1 barely has any chance to join spot tests.

Do you really think that he would pull anyone who'd buy the keys now though? Cause I highly doubt that. Especially considering that spot tests will be NDAed.

Requirements for a good gameplay layer for Crafting

Post by Ludullu on 2022-10-16 19:53:43

What if we a 2-step optional system. When starting a craft you'd be able to either go with a 1-click system or a mini-game one. 1-click required basic amount of resources and have you basic stats. Mini-game one would require some additional special resources and would then result in additional stats. This would be the "first step". The second step would be optional and would always be a mini-game (ideally a differing one from the 1st step's one). This step would be "refinement" and would let you add those special stats to the basic versions of gear. This way ...

Have Healers and Mages Become too powerful?

Post by Ludullu on 2022-10-16 20:12:52

L2 had a somewhat nice solution. Healers could either only damage undead mobs or make a transformation into a dpsing mage (with lower dps than a standard mage) but lose the ability to heal, unless they transformed back. Their solo farming was either quite slow or as risky as a solo mage's would be.

Corrupted Player Killer (PK) and penalties : Could you please expand on that?

Post by Ludullu on 2022-10-16 20:25:36

At the risk of sounding like a broken record (I am), this system has worked just fine before and will quite likely work just fine here. Don't kill passive players if you're not ready for the consequences. Btw, the system doesn't automatically punish you. The players do. Those increased penalties will only apply if you die, and I'd hope that you don't just die to mobs so, most likely, your death would only come at the hands of other players.

Odd Crafting-Style / "Game-Layer" from the AMA: Will Crafting be Arcade/Twitch?

Post by Ludullu on 2022-10-16 20:30:45

Yeah, just crafting hundreds of things within a somewhat short window of time. And if we need to craft several smaller things that then go into the craft of the big thing, you might be crafting a toooon of stuff just to craft a few things for your mates. And if you have to do a mini-game for each of those crafts just to have the best version of the item - it'd get real tedious real quick.

Yeah, that'd be fine imo.

How to Solve The Issues of Crowd Control, Kiting, and Healing in MMOs

So all of those just sound like buffs, debuffs and item abilities/effects. So yes, I agree that Ashes should have those things. And to counter healers and OP mages, I'd suggest having a wider range of mana gameplay mechanics. All kinds of mana burns and removals and stuff like that.

Corruption VS Gathering

Green death is the normal death. It's if you flag up that you lose the half. And balancing of corruption gain will need to be tested in alpha2.

Corrupted Player Killer (PK) and penalties : Could you please expand on that?

Post by Ludullu on 2022-10-17 06:29:33

I'd say as long as stat dampening doesn't start really destroying your stats until ~10-15 PKs, it'll be fine. A normal pvper won't PK too often so that amount of PKs would take him quite some time to get and any genocidal player would start going down in stats after just 1-2 sessions, if that even. I'm sure you've seen quite a few "career PKers" that were mainly just dicks to lowbies for no real reason. Imo corruption-related stat dampening would fuck them over way more than it would any normal player who PKs once or twice every other ...

Freeholds P2W?

Post by Ludullu on 2022-10-17 07:12:34

Don't forget that you can't do everything on just one account. So the artisan system is p2w too. Oh, and the guild system is p2w too cause you can just make your own guild with your alt accounts and reap all the benefits yourself. Oh, and the node mayorship is p2w too cause you can just take up all the citizen slots of a scientific node with your alt accounts and become a forever mayor. In other words, the whole game is p2w cause you can just pay for more accounts. I really think they should just go f2p ...

Freeholds P2W?

Post by Ludullu on 2022-10-17 08:01:25

Well, that's just a defeatist attitude towards the situation. If freeholds can be seen as p2w, even though they aren't, I'm sure other mechanics, that could in any way benefit from having several alt accs, could be made to appear p2w too.

I'd personally love to see the NW approach. Just let everyone do everything. I'm sure that would in no way impact the planned economy or gameplay.

Freeholds P2W?

Post by Ludullu on 2022-10-17 20:24:14

I mean, I was only half joking. And I didn't even think about paying others to use your alts, but yeah, that'd be a much better way to utilize this "exploit". But as Baska said, at that point any paid game is p2w. Hell, literally any game would be, unless they put all kinds of limits on gameplay. Which was mainly the reason for sarcasm in my original comment.

Feature Wishlist

Post by Ludullu on 2022-10-17 20:29:42

So, transmog? So, good AI and world events that are already planned? Same world events that might bring changes in weather and other shit, or node sieges that will literally destroy a whole damn city? So, good dungeon design with different mechanics? So, utility abilities? Seems reasonable and something that was either already planned or at least discussed at length.

IS there a class that will be like the Shaman From DAoC?

Post by Ludullu on 2022-10-17 20:32:13

If Steven liked L2's bards and then pushed for that kind of design for Ashes, there is a chance we'll have this type of class. L2 had 2 orc classes that were all about dots and mass scale fights, both in their buffs and their debuffs.

Artisan Class Restriction.

Post by Ludullu on 2022-10-17 20:40:57

Which is exactly what the current system is. Yes, you can go and get your alts to level their artisanry too, but it'll take you forever. And you also won't have enough alts on one account to get all the professions to the max, so you'd have to buy another account if you really wanted to do everything. And I personally love that. I'd probably be against full mastery locks, but I could see account-locking a branch of the artisan tree, so you could max out one of the three branches, but nothing else. The time required to do ...

Have Healers and Mages Become too powerful?

Post by Ludullu on 2022-10-17 20:52:02

As I said in another thread, give us some mana gameplay. Clerics should be the ones to burn through mana the fastest, so once they come across any other player that can speed up that mana burn - they're in trouble. But in a party situation there should be ways to mitigate that mana burn, be it buffs or abilities from other archetypes or maybe even some items. But I do agree that healers should come to a stalemate with a mid-power dps. A burst dps class should be able to kill a healer even w/o mana gameplay, if ...

Imo it's about the longevity of the game and "lategame" player reputation. Sooner or later the real nerds will start making everything on their own. And the further you go into the game's life, the more diluted the professions would become. I could maaaybe agree with adding one mastery slot for each big expansion that adds new professions (if they ever gonna do that). This way people interested in that profession won't have to get another alt for it, while all the new players would be able to get more masteries in the long run. Though, I haven't played ...

2 suggestions for the PK count system

Post by Ludullu on 2022-10-17 22:35:47

First one is super simple. Account-wide PK count. This would not impact the lives of normal players, but would somewhat limit the PKing abilities of anyone who wants to have a PKing alt on their account. Second one PK count removal quest should send you to the node whose citizen you PKed and have you do a node quest there (ideally one of the harder more massive ones). If you PKed a citizen of your own node, you can't remove that counter tick until you change nodes. Nomads can obviously PK anyone and then just do a quest in ...

I expect to see node citizenship in the nameplate and definitely will give that as my feedback if that is not the case. Steven wants us to have our nodes as the highest point of loyalty. How can we do that if we got no clue who's our mate or not. That would be the same as being in the same guild with another player but then not knowing that you're guildmates. And as for situations where you might have to fight your nodemate, I personally would like for there to be a push against those situations. In theory, ...

2 suggestions for the PK count system

Post by Ludullu on 2022-10-17 23:25:58

I think he meant that you PKed a player and then their friend who's your nodemate comes to kill you in revenge, but if you now kill them as a Red - you'll get an uncleanseable PK tick. And yeah, I see how that might be a problem, even if I'd like that kind of interaction to be resolved through a more diplomatic method.

I've seen (and have done it myself) multiple instances of people making glass cannon characters with trash gear just to go kill lowbies for a few hours. Now, obviously the stat dampening is there to limit this somewhat but we don't know at which point it starts to really decrease your stats to a point where you can't even kill a lowbie. We also know that node development will most likely have you running around both low and high lvl players, so that cuts down on the longevity of someone's PKing session. But let's say there's a low lvl ...

Artisan Class Restriction.

If you have the time to do it all by yourself, you're welcome to do it. Mastering just one profession would probably take at least a few weeks, and that's if you have all the proper resources to do it. Mastering several will take months and would require a huge capital or even more time. And even once you do master them all on all of your alts, you'll still need to fight others for the resources and then send them up your production chain, so it's not like it would be super easy to just do it all ...
