About the proposed minigames for crafting

Post by Ludullu on 2022-10-14 21:12:44

If minigame tedium is the sacrifice I'll have to make to achieve my dream of being the very best like no one ever was, I am ready to make that sacrifice. I'm just giving feedback on the fact that it might not be the best sacrifice to make. Tie the minigame to scale crafting. Maybe if you can perfectly beat the minigame your crafting triggers multiple times, if your mats allow for that. Or maybe you gotta do some special action during the minigame to trigger multicrafting. Neither of those things would impact casual crafters in any way, but ...

I meant best gear at your stage of progress. Wouldn't you need to be your best self to even see if it's possible to beat the boss at your progress stage? Or is that bad Lost Ark-like design of gear score that's not applicable to the games you've played?

I hope so. I usually assume way too many things (as recently shown by my posts), so it's better to just hope and then see whether the hope was met with reality.

If there's a way to prevent any failures by using proper mats - I'd be happy with a system like this.

I read it as "if Noaani wanted to, he could play the game long enough to get the skill to be able to beat either of you". And I saw that assumption as one based on Noaani's attitude towards gaming overall, that is - highly analytical and super hardcore. I've also haven't seen any proof from him on the things he's said, but to me (and seemingly to Azherae) it's a simple case of "true until proven otherwise". Noaani is a random person on the internet that might not even exist. Though keeping up the same persona for over ...

To me you never did. I think it's usually either assumptions based on previous experiences with people that say those phrases (w/o looking at the bigger picture of someone's post history) or just projection.

One question though. You obviously value proof for any kinds of statements. Do you have any proof for this particular statement? Cause yeah, proper action combat in mmos might be a somewhat new thing, but in every action mmo so far there hasn't even been an attempt to make is as super difficult as you say it could be. And iirc Wildstar had action combat and was considered a hardcore mmo and I'm pretty sure that shit died real quick. So to me this seems like most people don't want the kind of game you claim action mmos can ...

Wildstar came out barely 2 years before BDO, with it going f2p one year before BDO's release. That's not even a gamer generation apart, so in theory it should've had the same potential playerbase as BDO, yet it still died. I just rewatched the "death of a game" video on it and I guess its demise could be chalked up to mismanagement rather than purely difficulty. But at this point every single mmo outside of ff14 seems to be dying at the hands of poor management or greedy execs. And unless we get another "Steven", I doubt any company ...

Node Ruins 'FFA PvP'

Guess the second time around this kind of news doesn't hit as hard as the first time Though I don't really have much to say about it. The seas change was huge because that's smth you might have to deal with every other day or maybe once-twice a week, depending on how your guild does raiding and farming. But this change might only happen once a few weeks, if not even less often. Node sieges are supposedly costly things which also result in a fairly big shift of things around them (especially with the latest change to the node ...

It'd be 11 chars, unless they've changed the "2 masteries per char" rule. So if Intrepid lets us have, say, 8 alts for a total of 9 chars, you'd need another acc to be able to do everything, at which point you could just divide your chars in such a way that lets you maximize the things you can do in your two freeholds.

Yeah, it'd definitely be a nice memory and reactions practice. Though, from what I've heard of LA's gearing system, you'd have to suffer through the game to enjoy this endgame raid. But I guess you're somewhat used to suffering through games, considering your experience with BDO

Don't forget that Steven said it's gonna be in that state for a few days. So I'd assume it's either super difficult to dig up all the items or there's some sort of limit on how fast you can get them. Or they might have something completely different in mind.

Fast Travel On Your Mount

Post by Ludullu on 2022-10-15 03:53:26

To me that sounded a lot like ff14's chocobo runs between cities. Iirc the speed was the same as just running on your mount, but it was automatic so you could just use it and go do smth else while you wait. I'd be ok with it having some speed buff, but also having limitations of "no mats" and "any attack on you throws you off the mount immediately", while running on your own mount wouldn't have those.

Fast Travel On Your Mount

Post by Ludullu on 2022-10-15 04:17:46

Iirc they've already said that roads give you a speed boost. Maybe that was said just in the context of caravans, but I don't see a reason why it couldn't apply to mounts to. I saw that line as more of a differential from the BDO's auto-pathing, where you could just set a point and your char/mount would automove there. Having auto-pathing between two preset points doesn't really diminish the explorative side of the game, because you wouldn't be exploring. You'd only see the road that you run on. And with the world now being even bigger, I doubt ...

Flagging System

Post by Ludullu on 2022-10-15 04:23:57

At this point I'd be really surprised if we were. Intrepid have obviously seen all the whining across all platforms about how "non-opt-in pvp is trash and the game will die because of it" and they've obviously seen how the genre barely has owpvp games in it, yet they've added 2 free pvp locations to the game recently. It'd be a super weird move to go 2 steps towards one side of design and then take several steps in the opposite direction. I get that games change during development, but with the whole design of Ashes there's just too ...

Imo they have to be, if they want to be truly hardcore. The whole point of action is the requirement to aim your abilities properly. And the highest difficulty in aiming is the super precise one against fast moving enemies. So, imo, by default you have to have high precision aiming in an action game to make it truly hardcore. I'd personally do that by the way of vertical body segmentation and requirements to hit different parts of the body to have different effects on your attacks. This would work for both melee and ranged attacks. I'd then add ...

Don't worry, your kids will go to college by the time game comes out But on a serious note, just keep your expectations in check and I'm sure you'll enjoy the game for what it is. It'll take time, but you'll get to fight some bosses and maybe even get to some high tiers of gear in due time.

But the gameplay being hardcore would already come from the tab mechanics being used in an action context. I just want to add proper action gameplay, cause to me "turn your character in a direction" is skillless. Yes, the speed might be difficult to get used to, but outside of that there's no real depth to the combat. And considering my experience in L2, I was already playing an "action" mmo with tab leaning. And I already explained why I think this. So if I was trying to play a true action mmo, I'd want smth that I suggested. ...

Allegedly he'd be able to operate siege machinery, but that would require a guild that's strong enough to even siege a castle. And that might be somewhat difficult to achieve for someone with very limited gametime.

Odd Crafting-Style / "Game-Layer" from the AMA: Will Crafting be Arcade/Twitch?

Post by Ludullu on 2022-10-15 19:42:18

I am a bit concerned, but I'd need to see what they have in mind before making my final decision on whether I like it or not. But outside of the minigames themselves, I'd definitely want the system to allow for big scale crafting, if that kind of crafting is even possible/planned in the game.

I need your opinion on smth. Would you consider this combat fast? (there's iframes on dash and on Q use) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4guShve-pQI Cause I look at the fighter's showcase and I can't see why you consider it very fast. But I'm also not used to frame readings and analysis so I might be overlooking smth very big.

Yeah, I meant that action combat combined with all the tab complexity would already become hardcore. But I'd personally want it to go even further. I meant it comparatively to what I'd like to play. Yes, counter play in action mmos is definitely more prevalent than in tab ones, purely because you have more ways to utilize it. Tab games might provide you with a few abilities to counter your enemy's moves, while the whole point of action games is to constantly counter your opponent's moves. But what I want is more verticality in combat. The Absolver gameplay seems ...

I wish they added pvp, but they never will. It would not only require a full second layer of character balancing and elemental reactions rework, but would also need a full restructuring of the design direction. And as for Melty, maybe it's just my absence of knowledge talking, but it always felt to me that fighting games skill mainly came down to muscle memory coupled with knowledge of your opponent (both in-game char and the player themselves). I feel like at higher lvls of play it's all about patterns of responses and proper execution of them. I definitely agree ...

There's a small chance that the dash was doubled in that showcase because it had its cd turned off. Just like the shadowey green dash from the weather showcase didn't have one. This would make your interaction way easier because the fighter would only need to react to the initial animation. Now they could obviously have another gapcloser, so there's that too. But as you said in the following post, this is not really complex but just a bit difficult. For me, that kind of interaction is close to my L2's mages combo of "remove the dagger's target, blink ...

Btw, what yalls opinion would be on mobs having detargeting abilities? Especially boss fights, be it directly from the boss or maybe adds that you'd need to kill in order to stop them from detargeting your members. Ideally detargeting would mostly target high dps and healing players, so that there'd be a chance to stop one of their casts (well, I expect that detargeting would cancel casting, mb it won't).

I'd see it as one of the main pushes towards the game truly being a hybrid. I'm sure that people will find a way to only use tab abilities. So I'd personally like the game to fuck them over by making them use at least a few action ones too, or always pay attention to what's happening. And with some tricky scripting and AI manipulation you could mess up a ton of players if you have some mass detargeting right after a huge semi-wipe ability or during a boss animation (detargeting done by adds). You wanna use a big ...

Yep, that'd be a nice decision-making tree that depends on reactionary actions to the boss mechanics and on proper coordination between raid members. Add to this some short-timed reactionary buffs from the bard. Smth like "take a certain amount of dmg and transfer it as a dmg boost onto another player", with maybe a second or two for the receiving part and the buff itself (shorter if the timings allow). Then add healer's high cd "link with a player to keep him at full hp by burning your mana at the same rate as his hp drops" and a ...
