I saw it as just Noaani's opinion on the matter. And even if I personally like the change, I was also quite shocked when Steven announced it because it is in fact a huge part of the world that has a completely different set of rules of existence now. And I definitely see how and why someone would be quite displeased with this change. But I'd really have to see their plans for open seas content in order to really understand the reasoning behind the change. If they plan to have a ton of mobs in the water that ...

https://ashesofcreation.wiki/Citizenship#Citizenship_benefits How would your suggestion be any different from crafters just being a citizen of a node that has those upper-tier benches? And I don't think we've had any indication that a node (even metro) will have literally every kind of highest-tier crafting bench there is. In other words, your suggestion just seems like additional busywork for the crafters w/o really adding anything to the current systems. Also, the mayor is the one who decides what to build in his city, so your suggested artisan guilds would have to just bribe the mayor in some way, but that kind ...

I think Noaani was just talking about it in the context of a purely pve game. And if another player can heal your mobs w/o you being able to do anything against that - that is really bad design. Unless you present it in a controlled manner with counterspells and proper balancing and in some form of competition - there'd be no reason for players to heal mobs, let alone someone else's mobs. And while I agree that healing mobs in L2 kept your whole raid at full alert cause even a single enemy healer could fuck you up, ...

This article says that NW had its change from survival to what it is now during the alpha stage of the survival version https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/new-world-developer-interview And this change is considered one of the hugest fuckups in mmos (well, considered that by the pvp community obviously) because it did a 180. Now obviously Intrepid didn't do a full 180 quite yet, but changing half of the world's rules is quite close to that imo. And with the ruins mechanic change we're now setting a precedent and an exact direction ("2 points make a line" and all that) for the design of ...

Yeah, this is why I'm waiting for more info to have a final opinion on the change.
Post by Ludullu on 2022-10-21 23:31:41
Yeah, it's obviously within the overall design direction, but, as Steven himself said, it was a change from whatever the previous design was. And while the change itself is fairly small compared to the open seas one, it's still a change towards more pvp, which was my point. Now what I'd love to get from Intrepid in these next few dev streams is any good info on the pve side of things. Yes, we've seen a few new mobs here and there, but what about AI, what about boss design, what about mob/boss abilities, etc etc etc. We're coming ...

So you're literally removing owpvp, making everyone who attacks another player go corrupted (even if the target fought back but still died), all while reducing the penalties for being corrupted. How exactly is that "not devolving into a FFA"? You're not stopping the people who would've killed others either way. Hell, you're now encouraging them because the penalties are now lower. And the people who would have maybe made a few hits against an opponent in hopes of removing them from a location (but not going through with it in fear of becoming Red) will now be scared to ...

Would this be purely a pvp stat boost or an overall one? How would you balance this for groups of people who could literally have one of them off-group, attack the rest of the group, the whole group hits him back with their weakest attack but they're all now boosted in stats and can engage anyone else at peak strength. And if the stats are boosted even outside of pvp encounters - you got yourself a constant pve boost which would have to be accounted for in the pve design. In other words, I see this as an idea ...

Except I've done so countless times in L2. Though it was mainly me farming a location, seeing someone approach it and just hitting them preemptively to let them know that I'm ready to fight them for the location. And I'd hit the original farmer of the location to see (and let them know) how hard I'm hitting him. If I hit him for 10-20% of his hp - he'll either run away to save on travel time (in the context of this happening deep in a dungeon) or he'll let me hit him until the mobs or I kill ...

People can see your nameplate and its state of decay indicates an estimate of your hp. If you're always at low hp - people will know it and won't attack you. But any agro mob would most likely one- or two-shot you, and I doubt that stealth mechanics will have an "always on" mode. This would kinda go directly against the explorative nature of Dygz' gameplay. Funnily enough I've come up with several suggestions and were completely fine with people arguing against them. That's the whole point of a suggestion - seeing if it's good and finding a better ...

Steven himself called them "small skirmishes" that then lead to bigger longer fights, but even the bigger fights are all temporary (well, outside of open seas). And guild/node wars that could be linked to these battlegrounds are all opt-in by definition. https://ashesofcreation.wiki/Open_world_battlegrounds
Post by Ludullu on 2022-10-22 02:21:27
Is it a one-second explosion that gets you to no hp or smth? And, well, if it is, the most obviousest abuse and exploit of this mechanic would be to bait your attackers into becoming corrupted. Afaik people did this kind of stuff in BDO by taking off their gear so that any attack on them would immediately bring their attacker's karma into negatives. This suggestion just moves the griefing from one group to the other (potentially much bigger one). If this mechanic is widely used it would just effectively remove owpvp, as it happened in BDO to my ...

I was talking more about general suggestions. https://forums.ashesofcreation.com/profile/discussions/NiKr https://www.reddit.com/r/AshesofCreation/comments/u8s4kc/idea_for_corrupted_vs_bounty_hunters_balance/ https://www.reddit.com/r/AshesofCreation/comments/urdz2h/meaningful_gameplay_and_its_encouragement/ With the second reddit one being the weakest of the suggestions and probably the most drastic one. I did post some general thoughts on other topics in the dev discussion threads, but I use those threads as just a place to through thoughts into rather than discussion ones. I like to read through whole threads and see everyone's views on the topic, but dev discussions usually have a ton of new people who don't know as much about the game and suggest stuff that's been discussed to death already ...

I don't think a single mechanic in the game comes anywhere close to that though. So I really dunno where you got that assumption from. Ruins now miiiiight be close to that, but I don't think that mobs will be present anywhere in the ruins so that part's out the window. But ruins are also a thing that has just been announced and nothing like it was present in the design before them. Maybe you were mistaking battlegrounds for guild wars? Cause what you've described is somewhat similar to them? People will have some goals that happen in the ...

Ah, I see what you mean, I misread the OP. Yeah, don't think they've mentioned if we'll have alternative ways to craft the same item. Would definitely be nice if we did.

Would definitely love to see a ship construction balance with pretty much every ship costing quite a bit of money/resources and even if the ship doesn't completely disappear if destroyed it should, at the very least, cost a ton to repair. Want speed? Gotta sacrifice defense and offense. Want offense? Gotta sacrifice some speed and have space for the weapons. Want defense? Sacrifice speed and space. And ideally there'd be some mechanism that can push boarding players off the ship once in a while, but it would take up a lot of space on the deck so you'd be ...

Either I'm misunderstanding this comment and the reason for the quote in it or you misread that part of my comment. I want big ships be the slowest on the seas, while small ones are the fastest but weakest and fall apart the easiest.

The engine most likely allows for those kinds of animations so I don't see why not. Well, that is if it doesn't take up much dev time, which I kinda doubt it does.

Noaani, at this point you're taking this way too far. Why don't I see you being this much of a stickler every time some new person keeps calling archetypes classes? I've been playing mmos for a long time too, and was playing an mmo that was all about "training" mobs, but even when I played with english-speaking players I don't think I've ever heard "training" being used to indicate "leaving mobs onto another player with the goal of kill that player". Or even if I did hear it, it was used rarely enough for me to not put that ...

Here's another quick google https://www.insider.com/words-spelled-same-different-meanings-2019-1#lead-6 A list of words that have different meanings when used as different parts of speech, namely noun and verb. Depraved used the phrase "mob drop" as an indicator of an action, which makes those two words have a verb meaning. I knew what he meant. You knew what he meant. There was no confusion, just you being particularly agro against him in that particular regard. English is quite a contextual language and imo if people understand what you're saying in the context you're saying it - you've gotten your point across. To me the ...

Outside of the extreme that you took this situation to with your example, I already answered that. Context matters. And maybe you didn't understand what he was talking about because you concentrated too much on the preexisting meaning of those words rather than the context they were used in. Again, to me, you using "mob training someone" as a negative thing would make no sense, because that phrase was always used in a positive light in my experience. I would've probably understood you if you used it in the same way Depraved used "mob drop" (and I did when ...

@Noaani well, as indicated by 2 of the resident L2ers, I'm yet again just a unique snowflake that has had a completely different experience to everyone else I still disagree with your fervor of trying to make Depraved change his phrasing, but I admit that everyone but my circle of people (and apparently Depraved's) uses train to indicate reagroing a ton of mobs onto other people.

I'd prefer something quite muted. Maybe just a few steps above this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bw0lOA1clUM AoC is a higher fantasy than L2's early versions, but the mass pvp aspect is similar and L2's early versions were quite nice in terms of visibility and readability of action.

This is literally what will happen. Asmon reacted to that Lucky Ghost video and his (and chat's) response was pretty much exactly what you're saying https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RhoAczhdwF0 I became a real doomer for a good few hours after that. I hope so damn hard that Steven sticks to his guns, cause god knows people will complain so damn hard against owpvp.
