Player funnels. Most hardcore players will live in Node lvl 5 and 6. There's only gonna be 15 such nodes. And only a few of them will have super popular dungeons, so it's gonna funnel people even more. And you'll have yourself hundreds of people fighting over just a few locations.

I'm gonna try to be as fucking loud as I can when giving feedback during alpha2 cause I'm sure there's gonna be thousands of pvers on Asmon's (and others') stream whining about the mechanics.

Other parts of the map are used by lower lvl people. Artisan professions are not linked to adventure lvl so there's gonna be a ton of people who might be artisanal pros but at low lvl. They still might want to go farm some mobs or smth and will have locations to do that in. And due to how nodes' ZOIs gonna overlap, those player funnels will still be happening around low lvl locations too, it's just that people will be pushed towards each other because the content is limited. There's still quests and general resources that you'll need ...

I get that, but those masses of people will mainly push for complete removal of pvp rather than some changes to the corruption system. Because in their minds (and usually experiences) "owpvp" means pure chaos and destruction and nothing else. I can live with harsher corruption rules (even if I'd prefer just a better balanced counter actions), but if the game turns into yet another toggle-based mmo, I'll just feel bad about losing my last opportunity to live in an mmo (at least until vrmmos). And considering current design, I dunno if toggle (or a pve server for that ...

I'm talking more about mats/mob availability. Though we don't know how exactly the gathering will work or how limited the gatherables will be. Steven talks about scarcity of resources because there's a ton of sinks in the game, so that would lead me to believe that you can't just farm thousands and thousands of items a day per person farming.

I didn't say that this was the only way to remove someone or that no one fought back. Quite a lot of people did the same thing as me and tried to attack me first so we'd just pvp. I was just giving an example that I did the thing no one does and it sometimes even worked ("countless times" throughout 12 years of playing is not necessarily all the time). And yet Steven still allowed this action in his current system. Hell, he even made it easier to achieve because you now see how low a person's hp ...

And they'll be told that the game is not for them either

I mean, the majority won't have the money to afford citizenship there. But purely due to how Nodes work, most people will be in and around metros, just because in order for metros to exist you gotta have a ton of people doing shit in one location the most. And then have 5 of such locations.

I'm fairly sure boss timers will be, at the very least, 12++h if not 24+. You're not supposed to fight the boss over and over. Also, no teleports.

Yep, definitely need a +- a few hours or at least even 30 minutes.

I mean, they can live in those nodes, but if you're a maxxed out player who want to only farm the best content in the game - you'll have to go to a node that has that kind of content. And due to how content will work, you'll need a metro to put some high lvl mobs/bosses into dungeons and in the overworld. Behind a waterfall is the most obvious place, but yes I'd love some really hidden spots.

This is also true sadly

I ain't sending no one my info. And if I see a bot, I report it and then PK it. Live GMs can check it out when they have the time for it.
Post by Ludullu on 2022-10-22 22:28:24
If they have that information, couldn't they just limit the amount of accounts under one name? And if they can't then how exactly would a picture (that could be not even of me) would prevent botting? There's AI generated faces now that botters could use with a bit of photoshop touchup and potential botters from 3rd world countries could just go take photos of random people and use those. And if you're suggesting sending Intrepid photos of your IDs - that's gonna be a "nah dawg" from me yet again.

I do think there's a middle ground and imo that'd be the win.

I think winning the debate would be "reassuring the absolute carebears that owpvp can work" and then fiving Intrepid feedback to support that claim, while still preserving owpvp itself. This would most likely require a few analytical pvers who can succinctly explain the core issues with owpvp. Is it purely the "I never want to die at the hands of another player" or is there more to it. And if there is in fact more, we can look at good ways of addressing that.

While I do appreciate Dygz' pov, I feel like his is as special as mine or yours. A seemingly outlierish one. But yes, we're definitely in a constant spiral of both sides flaming each other w/o real attempts at bringing themselves closer to the other side's pov. I've definitely been a part of that spiral, even if I try to only join it when the suggestion from the pve side is just "let's remove pvp outright".

Intrepid would have to support 2 different games. On pvp servers you can have limited resources because the pvpers are fine with fighting for them. On pve servers there's no fighting so you gotta supply everyone with resources otherwise they'll complain about not being able to farm anything (cause time-hardcore players will always win out). On pvp servers bosses can be open world because, again, pvpers will have fun fighting over them. On pve servers you'll need to put those bosses into instance, because there won't be enough bosses for everyone (mainly because time-hardcore peeps will just have those ...

There's gonna be NO LOSING in MY MMO!! Only winners here.
Post by Ludullu on 2022-10-23 06:14:33
This I truly don't know. Like, yeah, you gonna opt-into the pvp instead of it being potentially forced upon you, but you ain't winning it. It's not gonna be fair. You gonna die in your caravan and lose all your shit. Mainly because all these things will be populated by the hardcore (both time and skill) pvpers who'd have no other outlet for their pvp desires (well, in the context of toggleable pvp or pve-server changes). Usually because mmos give you the ability to win against others by having more time. And while non-mmo pvp games have skill ladders, ...

Yeah, a ramp up of punishment for serial false mass reporting would be nice. Imo that kind of action is as bad as genocidal PKing, if not even worse if the mass reporting autobans someone.

Nah, we gotta take the high road. We listen to both sides and then prove them wrong through actions. If you made the extreme sides out to be Mordor - they'll behave like it. Exactly, the game survives on its community. If a good portion of the community can prove that the game can exist with owpvp w/o turning into a toxic grieffest - people will come and play the game. FF14 is infamous for being kind to newbies and having an overall nice community. It's obviously easier for them to be nice considering that the game doesn't really ...

You'd have to include healers/buffers in that too. And probably retroactively for buffers. PKing someone implies that they didn't fight back, so the attacker had 0 problems with killing their victim. Why would their group help him do the PKing if the victim didn't fight back in the first place. Parties will just have designated killers who will get no help, but will get all the corruption. This is already the plan for quite a few people on the forum.

If a group of people wants to mess up that green player's farm, they'll just attack him with their most powerful abilities and bring him down to some low % of hp, at which point the green player might die to the mob. That group of players would be green themselves before the attack, so the buff wouldn't work against them.

How is "EXISTING" an abuse of the corruption system? Huh? The whole point of the corruption system is to allow you to kill a person who you don't want to be in the presence of. In any other game you wouldn't be able to do that. The existence of a green player in a dungeon is the direct enabler of the corruption system.

If Intrepid really intend to have "<10% pve content" then I'd say it's gonna be more about pve. Mmo pvp is usually about who has achieved more, than purely about skill. This is one of the biggest reasons why people dislike pvp in mmos. But you can't really "achieve more" against a mob that was specifically designed around you having achieved that already. And the "<10%" difficulty would indicate that Intrepid want to create bosses that are meant to push those overachieving players to their limit. Now there's a question of how in the living fuck Intrepid's planning on ...

Funny how you blame me for doing to your post what you did to mine. Unless Intrepid goes with the "intention over action" design, the act of attacking someone will flag you only once you've finished your strike. In other words, just as I said in my post, the group of players would be green, they would then make a single attack each which would then flag them as purple. But the attacks themselves would go through because they came from green players and not purple ones.

You didn't write out your suggestion correctly and then get agro about critiques that address exactly the point that you didn't properly explain in your suggestion. Do better
