Oh, for sure, it's all based purely on Steven's promises. And I have the same doubts as you, cause his promises definitely don't quite match up with other designs. We've discussed this before already, Steven has promised himself into a corner and I don't really know how exactly he's planning on getting out of it.

Could you extrapolate why?

And L2's warlock is a summoner, but he summons cute kitties

Dumb choices in whose opinion? Pvers'? Pvpers'? Both? Neither? He jumped on your comment because it's so vague and pointless that anyone could read it any which way.

I could see this working out. It wouldn't really influence parties with designated PKers, because that player would always be the one to get the corruption, but if the other members ever have to PK someone - they'll reap what they've sown so far.

This would then imply that all the people who'd want to play their archetype as their main "class" would never be able to come back to it after those 25 lvls. Which in the grand scheme of things is barely even 1% of the overall gameplay time. And no doubling down on the same archetype wouldn't let you play your preferred "class". I want to play Tank, but if I want to play optimally I'll have to get a secondary archetype and change from Tank to something else. That is unfair to say the least.

That's my whole point - I can't. I want to be a Tank, not a fucking guardian (whatever the hell that means). But the game forces me to choose something that is not Tank. And then it forces me to play the rest of the game like that. And that potentially years of gameplay. Sounds way more unfair than just a few days that all those classlovers need to play before getting their preferred char.

Wouldn't your guys be corrupted now? So the victims would just immediately come back and kill them. Still don't see how that's "abuse of the system". This is all intended gameplay.

I haven't been interested in games that had any type of hardcore pve content. Last time I tried following a new mmo was back when BDO was coming out. And I was mainly interested in it because it seemed like yet another "L2 successor", so I had 0 clue about its pve outside of the obvious "you gather 20 mobs and use aoes on them". The next mmo that I'm kinda interested in is TL (well, outside of Ashes obviously) and we don't know shit about that game either, but from just the videos alone it seems like you ...

Yeah, the ice "step to the side and maybe hit your icicled friend" dragon, the "step outside of the green puddle" dragon, the lava "unload on him before he spawns more raptors" dragon and the big fire "try killing him before he wipes half of your raid with one hit" dragon. While I appreciate that alpha1 had at least some bosses, that shit wouldn't match the "<10% clearable" description even by my shitty standards, let alone someone's like Noaani or Azherae. Now it could be a much simple situation of just a misspeak on Steven's part and he meant ...

It's not even about showing a fight directly (though that would be greatly appreciated) it's about a mention of progress towards one of the promised things. Neither the open seas nor the ruins change showed anything. They were just an update to the system due to Intrepid's internal testing and design discussions. In the same vein, they could invite an AI dev or whoever's responsible for pve difficulty and talk about their job for 10-15 minutes. What are they working on? Have they made progress towards any kind of goal? ARE they even working on it right now? It'd ...

The guild would have to have a building to house the bench so I'd assume that mayor would be able to control which organization's buildings are in the node. But if every node has representation of every social org, I guess I could see how some form of competition between them could work out. Though that would theoretically put nodemates against each other which imo goes a bit against the "neighborly" relationships that nodemates should have, but we'd have to see how it works out on practice. Either way, if Intrepid doesn't currently plan on having social org competition ...

I go to sleep and wake up to several "pvp" threads, requests to make a pve thread and a ton of pings because the god damn quote system pings you if someone quotes a comment with your ping jezus

I had 2 suggestions that kinda achieved the same result as yours, except I just wanted to boost the BH system and positivize the PK counter removal quest mechanics. I also want the corruption gain to be lower so that people have a chance to remove it before they get caught (at least at low PK counter), but I wanted the BHs to have a buffer time where they can kill the ex-PKer for free (and the ex-PKer can't flag against the BH). This would be coupled with "marked" loot that the PKer might've gotten from their victim. And ...

Except Steven seemingly went even harsher on the penalties than in L2 yet again. It will obviously have to be tested, but so far he's crippled that system by quite a lot. Though I understand that it might be the only way how a system like that could fly in current times.

Nah, I mean the two biggest additions/changes. Stat dampening and the (seemingly) NO CCs against greens. As others said, damage-based CCs still went through (I forgot to doublecheck that too, but oh well), while in his comment Steven said that no CCs work against greens. And I'd be completely fine with both of those changes if only the corruption timer wasn't "significantly longer". Now, Steven would definitely need to explain in what way it is longer, because, yeah, L2's scaling was definitely trash but it also worked well with its respawn/TP system. You got just a few minutes to ...

In other words you think people would be completely fine with literally never doing any type of content in the game, right? Cause all those BIG GUILD scares from the Lucky Ghost video will still remain, except now literally no one can stop such a guild. They'll have a ton of players at pretty much all times of the day who'll be the first ones to gather valuable mats (either through bots or through cheap labor). They'll have the best gear, because, as you yourself said, dungeons and world bosses would be pvp zones - and that means that ...

The beauty of private servers is that I can just log into the game and have a max lvl character and then have another window open with another character and just test literally all classes I'd want to within minutes And majority of the servers try to be as true to the original version of the game as possible, so the rulesets are very rarely different.
Post by Ludullu on 2022-10-24 04:04:17
@Azherae so I checked several classes on the later version. Stuns with dmg on them work against greens. Slows with dmg on the work against greens. All non-dmg CCs don't go through. So in other words, unless I somehow picked a server that changed this particular mechanic (I checked server features and it wasn't listed and usually this kind of stuff is), Steven made it harsher.

The main issue I have with this system is the presumption that mobs will be dropping useless stuff. Right now it seems to be planned for them to drop certificates (pretty much money in item form), mats and items. All of those are important things, with both mats and certs dropping on death. And certificates can be sold in other regions for more money so they could be potentially quite lucrative (lvl-relatively speaking). So in theory pretty much any loot that you could get from a mob would soft flag you immediately. And as for the camp flag mechanic, ...

It's the fear of the unknown based on the knowledge of how bad "similar" things are. A ton of people think of WoW's faction-based genocidal pvp when they hear the word "pvp". And when all you know is "pvp = genocide with no penalty for the murderer" - you think that it's a bad mechanic that will kill the game. And a ton of people think that they know the "solution" to the "problem" of the system, even though they don't truly know the system.

Imo that's just bad design that creates unneeded minutia of useless inventory management. I could maybe see this system working out for the players who just wanna do quests, but then you're creating a "feels bad" moment of "I can't pick up any loot or I'll be a bigger target than if I don't". And while that could be see as "risk vs reward", I feel like this takes it a bit too far down the risk avoidance path. That advice is usually given to protect yourself against the very people that would utilize your Camp Flag system. The ...

It's just tedious design. Having pointless drops is, well, pointless. But like I said, your suggestion could work in the context of quest-based leveling. I just don't believe that many people would be happy with completely disregarding their loot.

Please show, or at least tell, us more info about your current progress on the PvE side of the game. I'm talking about mechanical details or maybe AI progress (if there is any) or anything of that sort. We've heard about the pvp changes in recent streams, which led to, at this point, dozens of forum threads on the topic. You always say that you want discussion and feedback from the community, so I believe it's time to require some feedback on the PvE side. Steven has claimed that he wants to have hardcore pve content "that only <10% ...

This would mostly depend on how Intrepid locates their mobs and how they design the leashes. If one spot in one big location has the best mobs - most people would probably prefer to farm that particular spot. Especially if different spots have different mobs with different drops. And if leashes allow you to bring mobs from other spots to your own - you gonna have farming parties that do exactly that, so the protector will be able to kill anyone who even dares approach that spot in hopes of killing the pulled mobs.

While I'm not sure about the current gamers, back in L2 those Reds were just juicy loot buns. You'd go for them if you thought you had at least a somewhat good chance to kill them. Obviously you wouldn't attack a dude in t5 gear when you're in t2, or attack a group with a PKer when you're solo, but in most other cases you wanted to kill that Red asap. And that was despite the fact that gear drops happened quite rarely. This is one of the reasons why I think that PKers would be punished quite quickly ...

I think Azherae is asking about the OP's incessant love for trash items, while Ashes won't have those. Though I'd assume that love comes mainly from the fact that the suggestion barely works w/o such trash items

Notable is exactly right. And "we don't know" is right too. We have no clue how the main archetype will change even if you double-down on it. I choose to believe that a guardian would be quite different from a tank. You choose to believe the same about mage and warlock. in other words, we agree, except I don't want to play as a guardian but will have to for the rest of the game after lvl25, while you want to play as a warlock and would only have to play as a mage for a few days (if ...

Again, all of that is fun for a person who prefers that kind of intricate design and razor-edge gameplay. But to any normal player who'd most likely be the lowbie farming those locations - they'll just see it as free PKing against them and will complain about it or just silently leave the game if it repeats a few too many times. All while the current system just protects them outright. There's a high lvl player in your low lvl location? He can't do shit to you or he'll get insane amount of corruption. That's it. That's the system. ...
