I've made more friends by just talking to my enemies than I did by talking to my guildies. There's always some internal tension within guilds (especially huge ones), but there's barely any real tension between war enemies, outside of the fighting itself of course. I'd spend hours just sitting in town with a few war enemies from different guilds, talking about random shit. There was mutual respect and I've even seen "romeo and juliet"-type shit a few times. Good times

If you have literal hundreds of hours to constantly relevel yourself after killing a single fucking gatherer who only drops a portion of his mats (hell, even if it's 50% it's still barely anything) why in the fuck would you not just make an alt, level it up as a gatherer and go gather the same stuff but in much bigger quantities in much shorter time? Or do what Jahlon said - go raid a caravan and get away with xDozens more mats than what you'd get from a single gatherer. Oh, also "stalk a gatherer until they're worth ...

You got a few details wrong though. You don't get corruption for attacking, you get it for killing a green. And this part Is not linked to your lvl/xp values, it's linked to your corruption values. And considering that leveling 8% at top lvl might take a few hours, I sure as fuck hope that you'd only get this kind of corruption timer if you did in fact kill a lvl10 when you were lvl50. But at that point I'd expect you do lose waaaay more than just 8% of your stats. Otherwise, yes, the system works, as has ...

It also means that PvErs would need to do some pvp too. It works both ways, otherwise it's not a pvx. If anything, Steven's claims that you might be able to play the game w/o partaking in pvp makes the game lean more towards PvE. Though, obviously, if the open seas have some kind of content that every player HAS to do - then yeah, definitely more pvp than pve.

And Steven countered his assumptions with changes to said system. And those changes (on top of the Stat Dampening) make AoC's penalties for going Red muuuch higher than L2's. So when we said "People didn't PK all that much in L2", you can now imagine that people would PK even less in Ashes. Well, at least if the balancing doesn't change drastically during testing.

Because this If you plan on repeating your actions, you'll have more and more corruption for each new kill. It has been stated previously that you'll need several deaths if you have a lot of corruption. One death would put you at around 8-12%XP debt. Considering that leveling is supposed to take a ton of time, I'd assume that ~10%XP at max lvl is at least an hour or two of peak value grind (quite possible even more if done through quests). With several deaths per kill you'll be setting yourself back by dozens of hours every time you ...

You get a PK counter tick with each kill. This way any new PK you do will give you higher corruption than the last PK. It's designed this way exactly to prevent the kind of shit you want to do. I really advise you to go reread the wiki several times over cause a ton of your suggestions come from a place of either not knowing or just not fully understanding the current systems.

One critique of this video that I have is the "you can't see player hp" point. L2 showed you 0 info about your target's hp values. Ashes will show you, at the very least, how much dmg your target has already received, maybe even their rough hp% values. In other words it'll be easier to avoid corruption when trying to hit a player who's being attacked by mobs.

Once the fuck again, I plead with you to go read the damned wiki. https://ashesofcreation.wiki/Removing_corruption We all know and fully realize that the systems might, and most likely will, change. My point is that if you're posting several suggestions in a row based on your wrong preconceived notions - it'd be much better for you and for the community if you knew what the current plan is and then give feedback on that rather than on false (or non-existent) information. There's been a shitton of threads by people who either got no idea what the game is about or ...

One of these days people will stop caring about "What da Dygz doing?" and life will be peaceful again. Yall really can't accept that someone could have a differing or a unique opinion, huh. Dygz is the new Ja Rule

While I'm not saying that Intrepid could survive on 100k subs or anything, I do think that EA is the EXACT type of company that would've fucked a small dev studio over not bringing them billions of fucking dollars. EA is the greediest pieces of shit out there. They'd gladly buy up a studio, fuck them over with shitty design pushes from the execs and then say "oh, this small studio didn't make enough money in our opinion so we're shutting it down". All while said studio might've survived just fine if they'd realize their own vision on a ...

Yeah, that'll come down to mob AI, agro design and class counteragro abilities (if any). I could see a few way of countering that kind of griefing so I'm sure Intrepid has had at least a few ideas too.

As has been said before, this kind of change gets completely destroyed by the fact that in order for PKing to occur you gotta have a victim that does nothing and an attacker that kills that victim. You won't need help to kill a person who does nothing. And what would be the timer for buffers too? Would it be just a "if there's even a single one of your buffs on the killer - you will also get corruption, no matter if that buff has 30 minutes duration and you didn't even know that the killer did the ...

Punishment for the PK itself could be somewhat small (either corruption timer is short or the penalties are lower) but the counter removal quest could be very expensive/hard to do and the counter scaling could change the PK penalties, so that if you have over 5 kills on you - your PK penalties are huge (I'd prefer that number to be ~15, but that's all just testing). This way people who need to PK here and there can still do it once in a while and then do the quest when they can afford it, but all the genocidal ...

And I wrote out a system where a casual PKer would be completely fine if he had upwards of 15 kills and only then would need to go do the quest. 15 kills for a rare PKer would probably mean weeks if not months of gameplay. A genocide player would go through those 15 kills in a day, if not hours. But then he'd be hit with a huge wall of either "another PK and you're going down to lvl10 in stats" or "go do a super long super hard super expensive quest to decrease your counter". And unless ...

PvP requires PvE and scarcity of PvE leads to PvP. That kind of interconnectedness makes the game PvX.

I'd be completely fine if Intrepid decided to give corruption to those who did >50% dmg to a player that just died to a mob. This would kinda make sense considering that Steven made that "abuse" of the system easier by having nameplate decay indicate how much dmg the target has received. In L2 you had 0 info about that so it was truly difficult to avoid corruption (though not impossible). Ashes will also supposedly have 30sec+ ttk, so it's gonna be EVEN EASIER to avoid getting corruption on people how're attacked by mobs. I'm sure people will complain ...

I'd expect them to dislike the game.

I think the mirror of that elitist approach for PvP is equalized/ladder arena pvp vs owpvp. Ashes allegedly will have both hardcore bosses and arena fights (and allegedly even avatar-based "fair" pvp). In other words, there's both filler pvx and elitist pvx. Which imo makes the game PvX. Well, that is if they can deliver on their promises.

@Noaani and this is what I'm talking about. There's pvpers, pvers and pvxers. It just so happens that pvx games so far hasn't had a good enough representation of pve, but Ashes has a chance to fix that.
Post by Ludullu on 2022-10-25 03:23:37
Yeah, the instanced stuff is supposed to be "not grindable" and with sub-BiS rewards (if even high tier). But due to us not hearing anything about the hardcorer side of the game's pve we've got no clue if there's been any change on that front. Which is exactly why I made the thread asking for that info.

So the game might not be for you! Ayo!!
Post by Ludullu on 2022-10-25 03:53:59
But you have to PvP in order to PvE successfully and you need PvE to keep pvping successfully.

You have way less resources than the people after said resources. So if you want to get something - you gotta earn it. Want to kill a cool boss? You gotta go through whoever knows how many guilds trying to do the same. Want to collect a rare gatherable? Better hope there's no one around you with the skills to do the same, because they're quite likely to attack you for it. And the same principle applies to all the pvp events in the game. And those who get to have those things will then use them against other ...

Ah, I shouldn't have refreshed the page. Was just about to respond to your comment saying that the whole point of owpvp is to have soft friction that facilitates said pvp and scarce resources and long respawns facilitate that soft friction.
Post by Ludullu on 2022-10-25 05:16:24
Ah, you decided to make it its own thread. The whole point of owpvp is to have soft friction that facilitates said pvp and scarce resources and long respawns facilitate that soft friction. Having more bosses would only give those big guilds more resources, because a big guild can have enough people to spread out across several timezones, while smaller guilds can realistically only play within their primetime. And if the server has one primetime that bosses can respawn in (with maybe even a random point within that primetime), this would give those smaller guilds an opportunity to get ...
