Will it be possible to have custom music and/or a composer system for guild halls and private apartments that can be heard by guests? (furniture, music boxes, bgm, etc) If not in-game, will it be possible to submit custom music options for approval?

Can we get legendary items through exploration?

Post by SongRune on 2021-06-05 23:56:48

It's easy to create meaningful rewards for exploration out of natural player interactions. Rather than having special items available in the natural world, use exploration to reward players with opportunities. Allow players to discover bosses and content, not always new content, but valuable content, that others don't know how to find: When you discover this boss, you get a choice: You can gather up your friends or your guild, and take it down yourselves. Whatever special drops it has are only for you and your group. If you don't have one, or you're looking for more prestige, find a ...

Composing musik ingame | asking as a bard :D

Not in the initial release. (I suppose they do have a lot to get done.) Definitely something to pester them about later, though, once the game itself is finished.

Preventing hostile OOC guild takeover drama

Post by SongRune on 2021-06-20 01:24:41

While we don't yet have specifics from Intrepid, Steven has made it clear that he understands the importance of guilds, guild leadership, and good guild administration systems. Any reasonable chain of command implementation would, by necessity, ensure that there is a clear line of succession for a guild's top leadership. If a Guild Master went idle for a long period or chose to resign, the highest ranking officer would automatically take over. Whether by direct election, or a consensus of existing officers, changing or bypassing a chain of command of this type wouldn't be something one person could do ...

If there is no control of who can enter a tavern, will there be a a way for the tavern owner to decide which bards can perform there?

Does any archetype boost the other?

Post by SongRune on 2021-06-23 01:11:58

I would believe (and hope) that Intrepid would not add anything that would make Bards less effective or undesired in fights like the Poison Dragon.

What kind of character do you want to play? How can augments help?

Post by SongRune on 2021-07-09 16:11:15

She always heals in our group, and only plays THF/WHM when she is playing solo. Even in games where you don't generally think of it that way she's the healer most of the time. As for myself, I'm also in the work crunch, but as you can guess from my name, I'm the Bard in this case, and I have a lot more riding on how exactly Ashes does Augments, which I will get to later.

What class will YOU be picking?

What kind of character do you want to play? How can augments help?

Post by SongRune on 2021-07-16 01:36:55

As promised, I return with my own wishes! First of all, I'm a Bard. You might have guessed from the name, or remembered my post before. I want all the usual Bardy goodness. Buffs for all sorts of stats, recovery over time, damage over time, and the various stat and status debuffs that make up the Bard class as we know it from so many other games. What Azherae has put together in her Bard Compilation post (with a little help from me, gathering the data) sounds perfectly good to me overall. What comes next, is obviously, the subclass, ...

What happens if Bards have advantage over Fighters in 1v1?

Post by SongRune on 2021-07-16 21:41:32

Based on something I saw from a Minstrel thread a bit back, the question came up: Who naturally wins in 1v1, in a game where 1v1 isn't automatically balanced? Bards or Fighters? Fighters specialize in movement and gap closing, but unlike Mages or Rangers, Bards don't need distance to be effective, and in fact, might be better at close range. So does this mean that a Bard, assuming they can, for example, put the Fighter to sleep or something, long enough to get buffs up, has advantage in this 1v1? Moreso, I'm asking: Would this theoretically bother people enough ...

What happens if Bards have advantage over Fighters in 1v1?

Post by SongRune on 2021-07-17 23:44:56

Well, what experiences have you had where it goes the other way? Because in most games I'm familiar with, if they're not completely surprised, the Bard will tend to win. (Between Slow and Dispel, the Fighter will already do less damage.)

I've noticed that there is different music for each level of node (crossroads, encampment, village). Will there be different music for nodes based on race or specialization, as well?

"Toggle" is the A/B test, so that we can rapidly compare the two within the same scenario. As for the free movement, I don't like it at all. Camera control is a skill, but not what I play MMOs for. Also, if there aren't drastic changes to the ability arc, it will cause even more problems, particularly when lag is in play. the mid range, it will just make it a pain to get close to begin with. Movement should be a choice that affects my positioning and both my and my opponent's options, not just a matter of ...

Race Representation in a Node's Architecture

Post by SongRune on 2021-08-06 21:17:18

She won't be the only one. Vek architecture is cool, but not everyone's gonna want to play Vek. Especially with a rare type like Vek, she won't be the only one who moves in for the aesthetic. With just enough Vek to tip the scale, you don't need many Empyrians to tip it back.

Remove Class Names

Post by SongRune on 2021-08-06 23:10:35

You had me worried for a second there. Memorize all 64 class icons, to figure out if a player might gank me? So I went to the wiki . Let's clear up some facts. ViBunja is right. A player's class will only show up as an icon. There will be 64 icons to learn. Thankfully, ViBunja is also wrong. You don't have to scramble to open their profile, you can just mouse over their name. You'll get both the class name ("Magician"), and the archetype pair ("Bard/Mage"). An easy quick reference, and important in the heat of the moment. ...

And lots of people signed up for Ashes because it offered Hybrid Combat and got their attention using an Action Combat Battle Royale style game. What's your point?

Mob/Boss Combat Interaction (plus a compromise for hybrid combat)

Post by SongRune on 2021-08-26 15:48:13

I get it. I do. "We're not aiming for 1v1 balance." But that's not how metas work. This was never about "1v1" or even "8v8". This is about "specific weapons are the objectively superior choice". Players optimize. I'm a Dual Dagger Bard by nature. You're saying I can't block, but you're really not giving me anything else to work with. I thought things were maybe going to turn out okay when @Azherae explained the whole "for this to be balanced, you have to balance the weapon's 'damage output (DPS)' vs 'damage taken (how long I can survive to put ...

Bard Desires Compilation and Analysis/Conversion

Post by SongRune on 2021-09-14 14:35:07

@maouw , I've been thinking about the Transition ability you mentioned, a bit, and I like the idea. I find I disagree, however, with how you presented the boundaries between Bard and Cleric or Tank, relative to preemptive support. I find that Clerics often spend a good deal of effort making sure that people don't take damage, as much or more as purely restoring the inevitable losses, and I'd hate for them to lose that as I think it would reduce their enjoyment and complexity similar to our own natural "buff bot" concern. This is partly where "heal bots" ...

Setting of Verra and 'Node Infrastructure'

Post by SongRune on 2022-03-08 14:53:43

I like this one, but it might not be what she wants to know, because our Infrastructure Failure triggered partially because we did too WELL too fast during the period after a changeover. Ashes doesn't have that exactly, but the main point is, it's a state triggered by something else and not actually constant.

Dev Discussion #40 - Enemy Indicators

Post by SongRune on 2022-03-30 18:29:58

I don't want an absurd amount of information packed into enemy nameplates. Too much noise or 'dazzle' there will only detract from my experience and lower immersion, and having exact levels or stats spelled out is the worst possible way, as it can trigger 'min-maxy' mental processes that actively detract from my experience and reduce my enjoyment in ways that can be hard to ignore. I don't want to know an enemy's exact level. I want fuzzy, relative level indicators: the sort of thing that we saw in Alpha 1, where the color of the enemy's name changes by ...
