My thoughts on the matter are that my life is REALLY busy as it is without having to walk the dev team through the logic mistakes they make when asking questions. Can someone explain how training mobs on others is possible without the griefer doing it being in danger themselves? Either there's some ability almost specifically designed to allow players to grief others (seriously, whatever ability allows you to do this, how would you even balance it for your overall systems?) OR the mobs are so pathetic to fight it's not even worth logging in to be griefed in ...

I view wanting to have training for bot hunting purposes to be a vote of lack of confidence in the overall ability of the dev team to provide a more robust solution to bots. It's a bit like saying "we don't think you can build the game properly but please try anyway and if you fail give us a tool to work around it" so I personally will not be doing that because it seems naively rude.

You want the short or the long answer? Ah what the heck I'm feeling generous, I'll give both. Short: stacked status effects and coordination difficulties. One-shots are the poor man's idea of balance, it comes from bad MMO diet. Really unfortunate stuff. Long: I'll just give you an example whipped up from my day to day FFXI experience. This is the basics. We go into a dungeon and engage some random goblin suitable for our level. Midway through the fight, the healer ends up taking a few hits because the tank lost hate temporarily (he was trying to heal ...

Cultist (Rogue/Cleric) because I like the Dancer in FFXI both as a main and sub, ie hit with dual daggers a lot and heal people/myself from it. And plenty of evasion.

... offline companion app? So people don't even have to pretend to be playing the game or immersing themselves anymore? Are you okay Intrepid? Completely serious, I am oferring my services as part time lead dev, salary negotiable, my main responsiblities revolving around keeping ideas like this out. Other attributions negotiable before signing. More to the point, this kind of farming system is exactly what I would recommend a team who has never played or properly experienced an immersive MMO if what they wanted was to give players who ALSO never in their life experienced proper immersion a dopamine ...

If you manage to solo a large boss or just participate in the fight mostly solo to the point where you get looting rights, is it possible to get and then use a flying mount egg without being high in the Animal Husbandry profession?

This is Mobile game tier. I could fight this on a Steam Deck no problem.

The thing I still can't wrap my head around after watching the stream is this: if the raid boss is intended for 16 players, what's to stop me from gathering 14 Mages spec'd for as much raw damage as possible and 2 Clerics for the heals? The Mages can just roll, blink and use their Shield spell and be perfectly fine. Any damage they happen to take despite those can be kept in line by the 2 Clerics. So what was the tank doing for me in that and what's my tradeoff? Why do I need to bring tanks ...

I know it was mentioned above, but FFXI uses a TP gauge... basically the more attacks the boss receives (any mob in fact), the faster it gets to do its special deadly attacks... powerful AoEs, Sleeps, buff wipes, Death gazes etc. Really depends on the species. So if you bring more people... it means more attacks, it means everyone fighting has to deal with more special moves in a shorter timeframe.

I find that run of the mill moral questions like "will you choose to act like an out of control sociopath or selflessly help others?" or "betray or follow your initial school/religion/whatever?" don't do anything for me. I've already moved on so it doesn't seem to tingle me in some special place like it seems to for others. Rather than moral questions of that kind, what I do enjoy however is an exploration of less binary philosophical concepts about how to live one's life. Lessons to live by, mindsets you can adopt for yourself, etc. FFXI for example has ...

No proper Monk in this game so Cultist (Rogue/Cleric). I expect it to work a bit like the Dancer in FFXI, but more damage oriented. Dual wielding weapons, vampiric healing off my melee hits, evasive abilities, heals for my party or maybe share my vampiric heals, and damage reliant on carefully timed combos.

I think the community should vote for every big decision for the game, but NOT for the very big decisions, the biggest decisions, or the big decisions that have ascended beyond big decisions.

Clarity isn't something YOU get to unilaterally decide about your posts. Your readers decide if you're being clear and then they tell you if you're not. And then you get to decide whether it's worth it for you to try and be clear, or whether you are capable. Which it seems you've decided you're not. For whatever it's worth, you're not clear to me either.

Please. You've made another one of those threads Mag7 will just drown in empty theoreticals and reactions to half-read side points by other people and it will all be for nothing. We don't even agree on what PvE MEANS on these forums, so rather than trust everyone that surely THIS time we'll have a level headed discussion instead of devolving into semantics and 8 pages of responding to one niche 'Mag7 concern shared by no one else', can we just wait for Intrepid to show more PvE content? That way we can bypass the whole need to even define ...

Intrepid, it upsets me when you ask questions this way, because I have a dayjob and your question would literally take an entire book to properly answer. So the question either comes from a place of not assuming people have very involved and lengthy answers, or not realizing yourself that this is possible and I don't know which I dislike more. I would welcome more targeted questions moving forward. Thanks. Roleplaying is very strongly tied with immersion, with how one feels the world around them and their place in it. A compelling weather system gives you many avenues for ...

Related to this, I have realized that due to my perspective being heavily influenced by FFXI, I sort of expect most if not all classes to involve belonging to an organization. In that game, Dancers and various Mage classes belong to famous schools. Dragoons, Paladins, Warriors belong in the Royal Knights, Temple Knights or Iron Musketeers. Summoners are specifically referred to as Summoners because it's a 'forbidden' type of magic. It's also not uncommon to hear NPCs say things like "walking the path of the Samurai/Ninja/Dark Knight" etc. and in that game it doesn't really break immersion when they ...

Actually, there was one place where the Mage "slow fall" spell was something I used consistently. The Twin Peaks Capture the Flag battleground (I hope I remember the name correctly). There was a fairly high plateau there and if you had slow fall, it became a quickish escape for you and fall damage for anyone trying to follow you. I don't consider that implementation of reagents very good. Now, I will freely admit I wasn't good at the game, I didn't play that mode for long and this is already fairly niche. Nevertheless, I am of the opinion that ...

Steven, I've been struggling to say something about this because I felt you would just disregard it, since I haven't released a successful MMO yet. But, since neither have you, here it goes. Winners need to have losers, in order to be winners. Someone needs to want to keep playing even while losing. So in order for there to CONTINUE being losers and therefore winners, the losers should be allowed to have fun even while being losers. So therefore losers need and deserve SOMETHING to appreciate doing even when everything else goes bad for them. A space to have ...

Pixels matter because we as humans decided those particular pixels matter. For the sake of my immersion, I have decided the particular pixels comprising pig meat matter. I take no stance on the matter of the pig slaughter animation, I don't care strongly either way. But I do take a stance against bad logic and hypocrisy. After all, some pixels somewhere must have mattered to YOU enough to decide to play that particular game. They just weren't pixels that helped immersion because you don't value it. If you're going to think yourself more important than others, be upfront and ...

These are my current crafting skills in FFXI. I'll explain why I ended up with those levels, from top to bottom. I started out wanting to raise fishing a bit because fish is loot. Quickly learned I'm not suited to fishing because it requires a lot of patience, learning about different water bodies, moon phases, currents, rod types, bait types, and different "signals" the fish give you. So I ended up disliking it (and I could afford to, my group has 2 fishers). Then, I got really into chocobo racing and because my chocobo does well during rainy weather ...

You're obviously not the only one who has learned from the tale of Star Citizen on the internet, lol. I'm sure you're used to being called the smartest most thoughtful person around by your personal guild or whatever, but outside of your own bubble that kind of perspective is so many steps behind the real world... Just as a reminder, Intrepid constantly has to consider things like how their Alphas match up to new game releases, payroll, flow of money in general, the ever shrinking niche they can carve out for themselves due to new MMOs coming out and ...
