Hot take debate: "Non-consensual PVP", does it exist in AoC?

I mean, even something old can be important It's all good fun. It's good to have a full range of people with different experiences. And it's even better when all of those people think they know the best AND THE ONLY TRUTH! No other truth is more thruther than their thruth!

Here's an example of a similar mechanic from L2. There was a smaaall chance to drop either a double-handed cursed sword or cursed dual swords. They'd give you max karma and transform you into the dudes you see in the video (first half is the Double-handed then it's both of them). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-2tOghQrcaM Once you pick those cursed swords up, your position is shown on the map (L2's map was grid-based, so your square would light up with an icon of the sword, so people would know your general position). Everyone in the world would know that a cursed weapon ...

Yeah, I really hope Ashes brings back this part of the mmo genre. I get that L2's pve was shit, but you still did a ton of it, yet no one differentiated between pvers or pvpers. You were just a player who lived in a world where you had to do both in order to succeed.

Ah, maybe they got some inspiration from it. Though I think there've been a ton of such stories. Absolute power corrupting absolutely and all that.

Yep. If I die to a mob, I don't complain that the mob is too difficult or too strong. I either change my farming place or just do better. A person is no different. Just a glorified difficult mob.

Neither of the references mention anything about in-system balancing. I think what they mean is "some server will be populated with people who are more ok with pvping and some servers will be more pve-friendly". Society will decide which side the server leans in.

I'd love those. I'd have to bring a de-stealthing class to that location and farm it up that way. Elden Ring had invis mobs and people were just fine with it.

no opt in pvp?

PvP servers would not go green to red. They'd just be permapurple. The only reds would be the assholes who prey upon the lowbies, cause anyone who gets above a certain lvl on a "pvp" server would just fight back.

Post by Ludullu on 2022-06-28 21:25:01

Yeah, it will probably come down to that and alienate the remainder of the pvers from the server. They'll just go to the "pve" server and this is why I hate the idea of separated servers. They just speed up this process to the extreme and kill off the pvp part of the game, while having it be society-based might let the pvp-inclined servers even out and/or self-regulate if they see that they're killing too many lowbies. Also, imo if a high lvl pvp has to make an alt to get more pvp or for farming reasons, while there's ...

Balancing guilds with solo play

Lol, I'm literally the opposite. Hate going to a gym with people in it, but completely fine with playing in or even leading a guild of 200+ people.

Eh, not really. I understand why someone would like to just chill in a game and just so happens to have a ton of time to do that chilling. The only problem with those kind of people I could have is if they start yelling about all the rewards they're missing out on because they ain't doing shit in the game. But Dygz doesn't seem like that kind of person to me, so I just see him as a person with a ton of time that enjoys chill slow gameplay with maybe a few high intensity times.

And I'm definitely one of the laziest people on this forum but I compensate for it in games, when I do play them. Maybe Dygz is the other way. Or he's just lazing around now cause he's too old to go super hardcore.

In L2 you saw the Guild's icon and name when you targeted a person from that guild. Then you just ask around for the name of that guild's GL and sooner or later someone will tell you. There was also a server-wide guild UI element where you could see all the guilds on the server, but I dunno if that was an official thing or a private server thing and when exactly it got added to the game. And I'm not sure if people in Ashes would want to have that kind of info disclosed. But yes, we should ...

And in a PvX game, especially the one like Ashes, players are a part of the story. EVE has a ton of stories and all of them came from player on player action, be it combat or subterfuge or betrayals or whatever else. That's the story of a PvX game.

You are focused on those things because those are the only things you care about on the pvp side of the game. I personally want to be a renowned BH in my node that's helping out any and all people who fall prey to the PKers. And Intrepid have a system in the game for exactly that kind of gameplay. If they didn't want to have BHs, they could've removed open world flagging completely. But they didn't (or at least haven't yet), so I expect the system to work as promised, just as you expect corruption to work as ...

And if players decide to make a fully pve server, yeah, BH won't be required. But we'll have to see if other players will let them do that. I'd assume that PvE servers will be the ones who require BHs the most, because those servers will be "pve" only in players' minds, not in its system limitations. And if there's an idyllic place somewhere, sooner or later some dick will come and try to destroy it. And on any "PvP" server PKers will be present because competitive players will be using corruption system as a tool to get an ...

New class

Post by Ludullu on 2022-06-30 15:31:21

Now that I think about it, AoC's added classes will be probably the best version of that content in any mmo (at least from the ones I know). In other mmos if you wanna test out a new class you gotta make a whole new character, while here you can just grab their augments to see what the class feels like and then, if you're interested - you can level it up completely. Guess FF14 is close to that cause everything's on one character, but afaik you still need to relevel the new profession, so it's still not really ...

HYPE TRAIN FOR THE JUNE UPDATE

Post by Ludullu on 2022-06-30 15:38:56

The only thing I need to hear on this stream is "this is what we've chosen to be our combat system and we'll now start working on everything that's connected to it. You don't like it? That's your problem". It's been a year since the last combat update. If they're still not sure about which direction to go, I'd be a bit more than just concerned. Even though I trust all the other devs to do an amazing job because we've seen proof of that work already.

An Idea to make the Story actually interesting and Relevant to mostly all Users?

Post by Ludullu on 2022-06-30 15:50:00

To some people all of that is important. And to some the only important thing is the gameplay itself and interaction with other players. And from what I've heard, NW didn't have anything good on either of those fronts. I know hundreds of people who played Lineage 2 for yeaaaars, yet never knew what its story was about. But they knew each and every detail of the gameplay and had countless stories of interacting with other players.

DPS Meter Megathread

Post by Ludullu on 2022-06-30 18:49:04

All they can do is to say "we disapprove of them". Of course people will make and use them, but the overall community will follow what devs support. As long as the 3rd party janky non-api meters don't influence day-to-day gameplay of normal players - I think everything will be fine.
