Reach Max Level, then what?

Post by Ludullu on 2022-09-04 01:47:12

Compared to the potential years of you playing the game. A month of vertical leveling (cause I'm sure that people will outgrind the "45 days" number) is nothing. And with no deleveling you won't lose your progress so you'll always be moving upwards with new updates (unless you go so deep into XP debt that you'll need several weeks to get back up, though even that is hiiiighly unlikely).

Reach Max Level, then what?

You should reread wiki or relisten to what you heard. It's gonna be ~180h to top adventure lvl, and that's w/o potential XP debt stops or any distractions in farming. Yes, most likely that'll be brought down to maybe 120-140h with some optimizations, but it's nowhere near 40 or, let alone, 15.

Cities Empty?

Dunno what "flux" you're talking about. Unless no one already lives there or unless the node (or parent one) gets sieged, the state of the node won't change all of a sudden. We don't know how often sieges will happen so it'd be difficult to say how often the changes would happen. And as for plain decay, work hard and it won't happen.

Here I'm mainly on the elitist side. If only the tools can help you win - that's bad for you. If the design circumvents the tracker use and pretty much requires you to have the skill to execute the seemingly plain but difficult actions - only the skilled will be at the top, and imo they deserve to be. Ideally you'd need for that design to account for potential bot use too, but I don't really know if that's even possible, cause any kind of hardcore mechanic could be distilled to pure input sequences and, in theory, those inputs ...

Yeah, that's why I made the separation between the single player and mmo raid. If the raid required the same amount of understanding of the fight from each member and had the same difficulty of action execution for each member - I'm sure it'd take months to beat the fight. And that is exactly what I've been talking about when I said "I need concrete details from Intrepid". What if they change their mind and go back on their promise of hardcore pve battles. The fights would still be difficult for the majority of "normal" players, but the true ...

Oh, for sure. But they should at least give a rough example of what they can produce. If they do intend on appealing to the hardcore pvers and don't want to lose them after the first few months of the game, I'd assume showing a cool boss fight in alpha2 would accomplish that.

I think Noaani is talking about top lvl raiders from games that have raiding as their main attractor. So kind of an "elites of the elites" type of deal.

I'd personally prefer the push for guild/node wars rather than just a ffa around bosses. There's a boss in your node but some randoes from another node constantly farm it? Declare a war on their node. There's a bodd your guild is trying to contest against another guild? War! Wars keep the ffa nature of pvp around a boss w/o including literally the whole server in the action (though they kinda do cause you'd be flagged, but still). This would obviously require the guild wars to be forced (so that the target of the declaration can't just deny it) ...

We've been through this, Dygz. Steven himself said that you can kill your war enemies all you want until the war ends. If a boss gonna respawn in 5 hours and I know that a particular guild will want to farm it - I'm gonna declare a war against them and fight them at the boss. Even if that boss respawn purely during primetime and the guild war can only be declared during primetime (I fucking hope it's not the case, but that's for a different discussion) - the guild that I'd war would have to decide between farming ...

Non-Combatant attacking Corrupted

Corruption has nothing to do with resources and nothing to do with caravans. There's no "cheating" and nothing of the sort. The diagram is as it is and completely encapsulates the rules of the system. Nothing more nothing less. Other pvp events like caravans, sieges, wars, open seas - all operate outside of the corruption system.

You can only damage the player if you use the "ctrl+f+atk" combination (just to clarify). And if you were not the one who did the killing blow - you will not get corruption.

L2 had guild wars that needed both sides to accept it in order for it to become a pvp ffa for both sides. If one side didn't accept, the declaring side would still have to go red to kill them. And usually, the social pressures put onto guilds would push them to accept the declaration. And when they didn't do that, they'd get shit on by a pretty big portion of the server's playerbase. I can definitely see how people could consider that toxic, but it was just the social rule of the game that you participated in when ...

I'd completely disagree with this mainly because I've played for 12 years with exactly the people who constantly pvped, while also crafting and farming stuff. And I think Steven's trying to make a game that would bring more people to that kind of medium, rather than keeping them at both opposite ends of the PvX spectrum. Now it could be argued that he'll royally fail at this endeavor, but the only way we'll know that for sure is after the release of the game.

As I've said, that is the cost you pay. I'm talking epic legendary "one in a 2 week respawn cycle" bosses here. And wars between the strongest guilds in that region or between a local guild and a "foreigner". If you're a top lvl guild, you'll have information about other guilds and about their farming sub-guilds, so you'd be declaring the war on those instead of the main one (that is if it's not the main one who farms bosses). And you'll weigh all the pros and cons of declaring a lengthy war just to potentially secure a boss ...

Non-Combatant attacking Corrupted

Post by Ludullu on 2022-09-04 19:19:02

And I want a fix for the issue of purples being able to kill a green. That sounds very unfair towards the greens. Why do game's rules allow another player to kill a player? What's the reason behind that? Seems illogical. The rules are the rules. There's already pvp-leaning exceptions to those rules, that being literally any and all pvp events/battlegrounds in the game, which are abundant. So a single point in the rules that allow the greens to punish a murderer easier seems fair to me.

Removing flagging would just create a gankbox game with an even smaller playerbase than the one Ashes will have. And the push to make the pvp opt-in would be even greater than it already is. Just look at NW as the biggest example of that. Pvp events are exempt from the corruption system exactly because they're PVP events. People who want to freely kill people w/o repercussions can permanently participate in those events and be merry. While all the pve people or just those who have had enough pvp for the day can be somewhat safe in the open ...

And that is intended. It's also why a flagged person drops fewer things than a green player. This system promotes fighting back and defending yourself. And even if you still die - you've lost less stuff. You are still always free to run away too, so it's not like your only choice is to stand there and die.

You just do the same thing to the new node that those resources spawn in. And if you're trying to prevent a directed "attack" from another node's citizens - you just declare a war on their node. Or make singular players enemies of the state.

I have no real preconceived notions about what the content should be, outside of that it should have pvp somewhere around it (before/during/after). I expect to see a wide range of difficulty of bosses, but if there'll be only one super high one - I'd be fine with it.

Have that for world event bosses and give those bosses some nice loot to justify the pvp and I'd be down for it. But I dunno about the regular ones having that kind of mechanic.

Post by Ludullu on 2022-09-05 00:16:14

My main doubt with this kind of system would be, in fact, the drama part. If everyone's alerted and "invited" to these bosses and can then sign up to sides - it'd be similar to LFRs and the stuff like that, where solo players wouldn't really need to socialize too much because they could just come to the boss and take a side of the farm party. All while the randomness would kinda defeat the point of guilds being truly prepared for the raid. If there's, say, 10 potential bosses all across the server and only one of those ...

My only problem with the suggested difficulty (mainly by Noaani) is the "invisible" mechanics that can only be figured out by parsing a tracker. Those feel unfair to me. There's a high chance that I won't consume even mid-lvl difficulty content because I dunno if my planned casual guild will even be doing pve content. I will make a hardcore character later on, once I establish myself as the best crafter around and have enough influence to get myself into a guild that would be clearing hard content. And if the game survives up until that point - I'll ...

PvX tilted towards PvE High Risk vs High Reward

Post by Ludullu on 2022-09-05 13:52:23

I personally hope that the majority of content requires a full party. At least mob-related content. Have a few solo locations, but outside of those - all party-based. And I know how it is to fight mobs that can kill you quickly while there's a constant threat of pvp. L2's mobs weren't complex, but they could still kill you in a few hits if you weren't careful. And pvp under those mobs was the main fun of the game. Avoiding their attacks while trying to redirect them onto your player enemies required positioning skills and quick thinking. I expect ...

The system was copied with thought. Mainly because Steven added the stat dampening, which meant that he disliked/disagreed with the absence of this kind of feature in the original system so he changed it. But the "greens can attack reds freely" wasn't changed, which means Steven is fine with this feature and thinks it works for the system.

Loot system

No to any sort of BOP/E. Big guilds deserve to have the gear they farmed because they fucking farmed it.

Because it's gonna be a competitive game with limited resources. If literally everyone could get the loot from the boss just by participating - of course people would cooperate. But when you have 1-2 gear pieces and some mats for the same pieces dropping from the boss, while no one on the server has that tier of gear - you bet your ass everyone will fight for it because they wanna be better/faster/stronger than their opponent.
