Thought the exact same thing. That really doesn't sound like a game at that point.

I'm not sure if I like the "the more deaths the stronger the dungeon and the loot" mechanic, but other than that - yeah, this could be an interesting feature.

I was talking more from the pov of countless players that would have to die in the dungeon just to get the dungeon to a point where the loot is the juiciest. That sounds really bad in a game where death penalties are meant to deter you from dying. If players know that the loot scales off of player deaths, uber guilds will tell their people to die there on purpose just to boost the dungeon. And the dungeon would most likely require hundreds if not thousands of deaths, which is potentially levels-worth of XP debt for a lot ...

Could also see it as a good mechanic for sieges. Make either side try going for a lot of kills on one specific dude instead of achieving their main goal, especially if the bounty is big.

But that's exactly why I want this Bring internal drama to the bigger guilds. What if a whole party or two from a big guild decide to go for a juicy bounty instead of doing what they were told? The GL might kick them and now the guild is a bit weaker. This sounds to me like the perfect "anti-zerg" mechanic for sieges and even for the overall game.

I was about to write something like this. People are super used to playing at endgame (and yes, in the long run you only play there), but properly designed games have all kind of content throughout the whole leveling process. L2 had pvp from the very start. And then had pvp at pretty much most lvls because leveling locations were the same for everyone. And with nodes working how they will, there's definitely a high chance you'll have to fight for your farm spots or quest mobs and then on top of that you'll have all the node leveling, ...

I almost expect them to implement dmg redirection in one way or another. And if several archetypes have it - all the better.

https://ashesofcreation.wiki/Taverns#Bulletin_boards I'm against the "make them sit in the tavern while they wait" part of your suggestion, but outside of that - yes, Intrepid is already planning to have this mechanic.
Post by Ludullu on 2022-09-20 03:24:30
The talking part would still be there. Same as it would be with a "shout in chat" method. You'd still pm the person and would still need to talk to them. While tavern games will most likely keep people entertained while they wait for the group to fill out, I feel like making them stay in the tavern would make the mechanic a "feel bad" one rather than a good one.

You still suffer death penalties if your friends kill you, so you're not really "gaming" the system. But yes, I completely support the suggestion of your friends/party/guild/alliance/raid-mates not being able to even attack you when you're red. This would also match the flagging rules for that kind of interaction
Post by Ludullu on 2022-09-20 11:33:56
You still go down in your effectiveness and suffer lower mob drop rates. And I could even see them having lvl 50 adding a fair bit of stats and not having an overflow of XP on it (i.e. you can't go to lvl50 100% XP). So if you die at lvl50 - you lose a fair bit of stats. And leveling at that stage should still take a few hours for those % that you'll lose as a red. In other words, if you have a group of friends - make them help you remove your corruption through mob ...

I mean, gaining XP is the other way to remove your corruption. Doing quests, farming mobs, gaining XP in any other possible ways will remove some part of your corruption. Which is why I said you should ask your friends to protect you while you get that XP.

I mean, I'm a hardcore maniac who'd just see that as a challenge I've deleveled below gear grades in L2 couuuuntless times and had to use my previous stuff just to get back up. To me that was fun and was the main challenge And as I see it, it would also work well as a "world boss contestant filter". Say you have a super strong boss and several guilds who want to farm it. And those guilds decide not to partake in wars against each other. Outside of the obvious "fuck up their farm by just being present ...

Depending on how Intrepid design their skill cds, that pause might be there to let the players weave the abilities into their basic attacks. Additionally there's the weapon passives, that we got 0 info about, which might change/add smth about that basic combo.

One a week. The sieging guilds will have weekly content to participate in.

As long as you can't grind top lvl rewards through these arena fights, I'd be down for having this in one of the future expansions.

@Noaani @Azherae how close is this to yall's experience with trackers and their general functionality (mainly talking about the "window" here). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UnnmIcAhuZ0 In L2 this "window" could be seen as the general buff amount and your very limited self-buffs that gave you a big boost (though this was mainly applicable to only one class). But considering that most bosses had a much longer ttk than just a few minutes, these "windows" weren't as important as they seem to be in WoW. And the general buff was always there (unless you royally fucked up your mana usage) so you'd be ...

And as an addition to that question, would you want to have the same kind of combat mechanic in Ashes, or is it not even a "want" but a "need" because this mechanic promotes the use of your analysis abilities?

Lineage 2 had this exact flagging system and had a shitton of pvp.
Post by Ludullu on 2022-09-21 08:26:28
Maybe I misunderstood it, but the window's dps output seemed to heavily rely on your rotations and build. Trackers let you know which rotation and build is the objectively best one, so that you can maximize your window's output. And my question was whether your experience in non-wow games was similar to the one presented in that video. As in, "if you can't manage to maximize your window - your raid might wipe because the dps check was failed". And the tracker would be used before the fight to know your window's potential output and after the fight to ...

Sure as hell hope this will not be the case. I plan to help out any of my citizens and if they get attacked and I can only literally stand there and do nothing because I'm 10 lvls higher than their attacker - I'd be very disappointed in the game.
Post by Ludullu on 2022-09-21 16:09:33
Exactly, so it doesn't need any of that "high lvls deserve corruption if they attack lower leveled flagged people" stuff

Intrepid want to give us the CC before alpha2 (unless this plan has changed since april). So I'm pretty sure we'll be able to export/import our characters. https://ashesofcreation.wiki/Character_creator#Timeline
