A very nice advice that you might wanna take yourself

I mean, that does in fact sound like a broken system. I was OE things at ~60% and it felt fair. It seemed fair to all the other players too. Obviously we all had the survivorship bias, but I feel like this dude has the opposite of that where he might've just been really unlucky or at least felt really unlucky.

In most cases yeah, that'd be the response. If the game accounted for that kind of granularity and also wanted to implement rng on that level, I'd hope it would have debuffs like "block/remove target's healing received bonuses". And if you have those kinds of debuffs in the game (both some mobs and some classes) - you'd have to adjust your builds correctly.

I mainly based it on experience of this thing. Iirc it worked for plain regen passives too, though don't remember for sure.

And just as a base logical thing to do, if you have a bonus to smth I'd expect you to have a debuff against that bonus. Play and counterplay.

You know what else is super weird and unrealistic? Fucking magic. And you know how those projectiles look to me? Fucking magical.

I can't really see how this is in any way confusing. Healing is not attacking. Especially when you're healing yourself or another green player. You flag up if you support/heal a purple/red player though, which is helping them with a "crime" so that makes sense too.

L2 had people fighting each other literally from lvl 1. No one's stopping you from fighting others. But in order to be better at pvp you gotta do pve. Wanna know why? Because this is a PvX game and not a purely pvp one (neither it's a purely pve one).

L2 ru servers also had a player-made party vs party tournament. And the game had a "party duel" mechanic which helped organize this kind of tournament. Would definitely love to see the same mechanic in Ashes. I didn't play on those L2 servers, but I was hyped for them because they showed peak gameplay between 2 boosted to all hell parties. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=arYpkDaodN8 That one was before the mechanic implementation iirc. Here's one after it from the pov of the party competing https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L1M1H_Nfsx0

So you just came here to shit on the game and the devs. Got it. You seem like a very nice person.

Feels like a PvX design. Simple. And if Intrepid designs their farming locations/quests correctly there'll be a ton of pvp for that pve. I couldn't go an hour of farming in L2 w/o fighting someone for it. And unless you're literally the pioneer of all the content or the very last person to start leveling up on your server - you'll probably run into other people and try to fight for your right to party farm.

If pvp gave XP (and/or even gear) - some people would be able to go through the game by just pvping. And that is not the goal of a PvX game. Just as PvErs won't be able to completely avoid pvp in their leveling process, the pvpers will have to pve too. That's pvx. You'll have enough pvp progression in the game. There'll be seasonal ladders in arenas, node/castle sieges, bounty hunting and caravan raiding - all of those will have some form of reward and will progress your character and its reputation on the server. There's also the ...

Most, if not all, mmos from 2003 were.

Unless you're trying to minmax the hell out of your character, most of these aren't really difficult. As long as Intrepid makes the class gameplay itself fun, all the other stuff is just additional and semi-optional. Race and class are a matter of preference (except for minmaxers obviously). Gear will be dictated by your passives and those passives would probably come from preference too, so half of your build builds itself. We don't know whether enchanting is limited by gear type, nor do we know the extent of all the non-class augments. Both of those might be quite limited ...

I mean, if we were going off of what alpha1 showed us - literally everyone But I'd assume a class that doesn't have a high burst potential might lose out against a healer that's on the dpsey side of the possible builds.

All past bundles are gone forever. You'll be able to get similarly-looking stuff in-game, but never exactly the stuff that was in the bundle.

It's not phases and it's not mandatory. But a lot of people will want to farm the same limited content and the only way they can get to farm it optimally is to kill other contesters in pvp. Personally for the winner it might be beneficial, but in the bigger picture there's always loss, because a lot of pvp events sink mats, while even plain open world pvp still decays your gear and there's a chance that the winner might've used gear whose repair costs are higher than what that winner looted off of their victim. The profitable effect ...

I ask myself that every day. The answer is always "just to suffer".

Instance content is not supposed to be repeatable and will not give BiS stuff that open world bosses will. This suggestion would go directly against that design, so I disagree with it.

Here's a catacomb from L2. It was "instanced", in the way that you had to use a teleporter to get inside of the location, but the teleporter was open to everyone so it wasn't a personal instance. I expect Ashes to have smth similar in its structure, if they decide to follow through with the divine catacomb idea. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JioiLOOg4Hk
Post by Ludullu on 2022-09-18 18:25:39
It was similar only in the concept of a catacomb with similarly-looking rooms. It wasn't procedurally generated and it wasn't tied to any cities or anything. But at its core it's pretty much what the divine catacombs could look like and function. Each divine node could have an entrance into the catacomb which would give different groups of people chances to outmaneuver some big guild that's trying to control the location. The procedural generation could easily build a location that looks exactly like the one in that video, just because you have room blocks that look pretty much identical ...

Here's one of the 14 such dungeons And here's a list of all of them with full maps for each on their respective pages https://www.l2scroll.com/2020/04/
Post by Ludullu on 2022-09-18 19:13:42
And again, don't forget that these are hand-made. Procedurally generated ones could be even bigger and more intricate, if Intrepid nails the parameters for the generation.

Don't think we have any concrete info on all of those questions. And considering the newly revealed "buffer" nodes, I'd probably want castle nodes to be surrounded by that buffer and be separate from everything else. Though I'd need to see how the system works as a whole to really have an opinion one way or the other.

It'll depend on the bard's design. L2's bards had super strong buffs and if they went up against a solo player w/o such buffs, the bard would demolish that player. If the PKer is a solo player w/o buffs (I highly doubt this would ever be the case) - you might be able to hunt him as a BH bard. Otherwise you'd probably need a dps friend to help you out. Well, at least that's how I see it going down.
Post by Ludullu on 2022-09-18 21:35:18
L2 had self-buffs too, but bard's buffs went on top of that and gave even bigger bonuses, so a bard would be fighting under semi-full buff while other solo players were only fighting with very limited self-buffs. I personally hope that AoC's bards just buff the effects of self-buffs of the entire party. So everyone is strong solo and have roughly equal boosts from their own buffs, while the bard makes them all strong w/o being OP solo.

Yes, we do need a clarification. A great question for the next dev stream. Here's the full quote. https://youtube.com/clip/UgkxZ7N6M1JDXO1loO8cM8GinAwd1Xej7vor The "non-repeatable" stuff was said in the context of you usual WoW-like stuff where you go into your own (or your party's) separate location where no one can interrupt what you're doing and then farm that location for gear and other shit. And Ashes won't have those. As said in that clip - instances are mainly for story-related stuff. There's no point for a player to redo a story instance when they've already seen that part of the story. There's ...

Yes, a description window for each friend would most definitely be very useful, not just for these kinds of tags but for literally anything else too (their name, pronouns, time of play, etc etc etc).
