How would that work with inventory space/weight management during gathering sessions though? Do you just throw it on the ground? How often would you have to do that while gathering? Sounds kinda tedious to me, especially if there's 100 trees around and only 5-10 of them are worth anything while every other tree is "yet another bunch of wood that I gotta pull out of my inventory or click on it and then on "delete"".

Doubt they'll tell us this kind of info before Alpha2. And most likely this will be tested all along the alpha process, if not all the way up until release.

As I see it, if you're using a tracker in any capacity - you're invested enough in the game to do everything else too. And if you're super casual who barely does anything in the game, you'd probably not be using any trackers. Obviously there'll be exceptions to that kind of rule on both ends of the spectrum though.

Correlation doesn't exactly mean causation. People can still be super invested even w/o trackers. And those who care enough about trackers to never play a game w/o them might've not even gotten interested in the game in the first place, if the content didn't match their standard for what it should be to warrant a deep tracker use.

If they won't change the animation of same-type weapon switching too much from the one we saw in this stream (that being around 1-1.5sec), I'd probably go with a 2 second switch between range and melee weapons. As for why, I think it just flows better and lets the animation play out properly. Even the switch from long to short bow from the stream looked a bit janky, so I'd like it to slow down a bit.

Yet Steven said that people can run into arrows that were loosened in action mode. Wouldn't that mean that it's action?
Post by Ludullu on 2022-10-02 10:05:53
How is that different from any action combat projectiles though? You literally just shoot in some direction and if another player happens to then move into the way of your projectile he gets hit. Now there's a chance Steven misspoke, but that'd be one hell of a misspeak so I don't think he did. And if arrows are projectile I'd hope/assume that magic missiles are too. At which point you have yourself an action range combat. I'd assume that if you aim at a crowd of people the soft lock will in fact just make your attacks hit one ...

I'm already mega invested and gonna be a time-hardcore player that's gonna go for gameplay-hardcore stuff soon enough, but I'm against trackers because I think they speed up content consumption while also making said content so difficult that any non-tracker player would then have to use it to know how to beat it. Or at least that's how it seems to me after discussing this topic in this thread. So considering that, I think I'm an exception to some part of the things I said, but that's just cause "I'm not like other girls "

In time yeah, maybe. But as Noaani said about some EQ2 content, people didn't share any info about it until they had their fill with it. And some people might be like me and would want to clear that content w/o a tracker, but, due to devs developing content around tracker use, it'd be almost impossible to do so.

Information gets around so if someone sees a new piece of gear, they'll try learning where it came from. And if they learn that it comes from a boss that a lot of people have beaten but never gotten - people will assume that it came from the "top lvl clear" drop table. So I think that the result of clearing a boss at top speeds will be known, but not the way to do it. Though I might be wrong, especially depending on how Intrepid design loot tables.

Pretty sure they mean 2 months-worth. With the current exchange rate even the $250 pack is right about 1.5 months of minimum wage (in Ukraine that is).

I'm gonna buy it when we get a concrete date on Alpha2. I don't care about the cosmetics so I'm just waiting for the alpha to become a reality. Luckily enough I have the money for it, so that's not a problem.

That'll only happen if there's only one alpha2 server and iirc even alpha1 had a few. And if, by chance, they'll have an EU server then I'm definitely gonna be playing there most of the time (with a bit of NA one to help Azherae with testing).

Imo all they have to do is have more action skills, that interact with basic attack procs, than tab ones. You'll be able to trigger procs easily, but you'll have to use action abilities if you want to really get the maximum value out of those procs.

You do realize that the phrase "make something great again" implies that the old version was great so we gotta bring it back, right? This is why the original phrase attracted all the right boomers and why Steven used it in the mmo context. He's attracting mmo boomers who loved old games with their tab targeting and more social/hardcore designs. It was never about making the game a fucking shooter.

All of the above. And have it all interact and be interconnected with each other. Families of mobs are static, but a few of them wander out to "scout" the lands. And once you murder the entire family, an elite mob gets summoned that can chase you for several nodes-worth of land. The scouts will agro the whole family onto you if the manage to run up to them after seeing you, but you can kill the scout and then try taking out the family one buy one cause their own agro is on the weaker side (but they ...

To me that just seems like fun and exciting gameplay. You have to think about your movements, keep track of mob respawn timers and their potential respawn locations (if they don't respawn on the exact same place), all while managing your rotations and mana consumption AND looking out for any player enemies. This is the best kind of design imo. Especially if the mobs are a bit more difficult than what they shown here.

I mean, you can if you have the people for that. But imo, if you have that many people who are that well-coordinated, it'd be just easier to defend your caravan in its pvp zone. And if you, as a guild or a constant group of people, have any kinds of enemies who are explicitly targeting you and your caravans - your scouts would just be an indicator to them that you're doing a caravan run. And considering that mounts will most likely move faster than a caravan, they'll just find you by running around a bit.

Guess it's a matter of preference. And Intrepid could just have a huge variety of respawn methods for different mobs and we'd both enjoy the gameplay that we like. I'm used to grinding farming spots for hours, which is why I like when I have a constant flow of mobs to farm. And that constant flow means more danger because, if a player comes to that location, I'll always be caught fighting monsters which is a detriment to me, and I personally like that heightened danger during farming. If mobs are just "one-offs" or have very long respawns, that ...

I'd assume they just haven't developed that part of gameplay yet, mainly cause they've barely even shown off archetypes, let alone classes. And as they stated in this stream, they were showing off solo-farm mobs instead of the elite party ones.

To me, as long as the use of any particular ability accomplishes your current goal - you were skilled enough to use that ability. Pointing at a fastmoving mob's head is only important if your main goal is to only make headshots and nothing else. Or if it's a required mechanic for smth.
Post by Ludullu on 2022-10-04 17:03:09
I meant it as smth on a smaller scale though. As in, in that clip, you had a mob that you wanted to hit and you hit it even though the reticle wasn't targeting the mob. The action skill still hit because the player knew its mechanics, had the goal of hitting the mob with said skill and had enough gamer skill to execute the action in such a way that achieved the goal. If you were replying to the context of the walls of text, then I'll have to go read them, cause I kinda skipped them due ...

What if the camera centered on your mouse and the "tab" press had a short range which would make people aim more with their mouse to tab a target rather than just hitting "tab"? L2 needed you to mouse click your targets because not only were there too many enemies on the screen to tab through them, but also because the "tab" function had a short range (far shorter than the ranged attacks one) so you had to have good "pixel hunting" skills. Would that be considered "requiring skill" in the context of tab targeting? Cause to me it ...

Light armor had an augment that had a chance to detarget your attacker, so pretty much any class that used light armor could have this as their base. 2/3 rogues had detarget abilities, with all of them having a retarget one. Iirc Archer stun ability had a detarget. Elemental mages had a fucking detargeting aoe ability around their character (small range, so positioning mattered a lot). My favorite super OP mage class had a mid range single target attack with a detargeting chance. I thiiink that's it. So considering the average party setup, only the fighter classes didn't have ...
Post by Ludullu on 2022-10-04 17:51:31
Yep, I've been saying this since I started chatting on the forum and commenting in threads about tab vs action. Detargeting is a fucking must and would definitely raise the skill ceiling on that part of the game. I still remember times when some cheeky rogues thought they'd fuck me over with their abilities (when I was playing an elemental mage), but I just stayed on top of my targeting and instead threw their target off with my aoe ability and they got fucking lost. Just stood there for around 2 seconds, which meant ~3-4 juicy atks from me. ...

I was talking in the context of how the camera would shift from one mode to the other. So how I see it, you'd have to run around targeting stuff with your mouse (mainly) and when you needed/wanted to go into action mode the reticle would be on your mouse location and the camera would softly shift perspective a bit lower (ideally with options for speed of the shift).

As they said multiple times, if they do pick one - it's gon be tab. So some people would be butthurt either way.
