Definitely hope there'll be synergistic abilities like these. Balancing is a whole different issue, but definitely want this kind of mechanic.

This page has some info on how Intrepid is planning to address too many people attacking bosses https://ashesofcreation.wiki/Zergs

As that anime showed, this mainly leads to OP shit. And as Song said, everyone will just require their guild members to grind out any possible passives, especially if they are permanent.

I wanna see pure chaos so I'd like them to be at random timings of the attack animation. I-frames are just like a box of chocolates - you never know when you gonna dodge.

A caravan = 100 runs. And those are back and forth runs and not just one-offs. And depending on how fast a mule can walk (I'd personally hope slower than a caravan), you might be able to cut down some time using it. But if you're running somewhere with a mule, PKing you will be one of the most appealing things in the game. Using a mule will mean that you have potentially x10 of a person's inventory. And even if you fight back and the mule only drops half of what a green one would drop - that ...

To me that's not enough. I'm used to 9-man parties. Otherwise, everything that Mag said applies.

I'd love both melee attacks and healing to be harder

Low skill floor and high ceiling. Everyone should have basic low impact abilities and attacks, but anything impactful and heavy should be harder to execute.

Afaik that is exactly the plan. Though there's quite a few other things that might push away those casual players if they're not ready for them.

Yes, I hope there's downtime in Ashes. Especially if they really want people to always be in a group and like that kind of gameplay. Talking about random shit with my mates while we waited for mobs to respawn or mana to regen was a huge part of why playing L2 was super fun.

The corruption is already the big attacker risk. Getting "max" corruption would most likely mean literal days of clearing it by death, if not more (L2 had 9999 limit and that shit took houuurs to remove by death). And at that point you gonna have XP debt that pretty much makes you lvl1. One-hour debuff to health is already linked to the corruption penalties. Unless it was the attacker's first PK - they'll have a pretty high chance to die while corrupted and get big death penalties, which include decreased stats. That last one is literally just trolling so ...

I took the first two seriously, but the "you pick it up and you fucking die on the spot and drop literally your entire gear set" is 100% a troll.

The whole point of this system is to promote fighting back. It begs you to stand up for yourself. And even if you lose, it rewards you with lessened drops. He suggests that you literally always lose 100% of items on death, while still giving you the flagged state if you win (which makes you a ffa target). I do not see how this system is supposed to dissuade "griefing" in any way. I only see it as a punishment for the green player.

That gatherer can always just run away. If he didn't plan on fighting back, while also not wanting to die as a green - why stand there and flag up only to die on the spot? The situation is not binary, when it comes to the victim's choice. But if he does decide to fight back - no matter what the reason for that was, the situation is no longer a PK, it's a pvp kill, because the victim decided to make it one.

The bdo ranger vid that was posted in one of the threads about combat was floaty as fuck. It was the fucking skating olympics instead of an archer fight. Imo it looks really bad.

My experience is mainly based on good pvp and not dickwad PKing though. If I wanted to PK someone, it was usually either a guild war situation or it was a dude who was farming a location I wanted. If said dude just ran away from that location - I wouldn't chase him. I'm gonna operate under the same logic in Ashes too, even with the "you drop stuff on death" addition. But yes, even then I've seen (and have done so myself) countless situations where the victim could just run away. When ttk is not 2 seconds it's ...

I'd go all of the above and more. High mobility, poison bites and potentially poison application on their weapons as a buff, hard CC by constricting us with their tails, heightened defense from behind and any and all magic abilities that might fit a desert dweller.

Magical 4-directional dashes, short 8-directional sidesteps and long but slow 3-directional rolls. That the stuff I'd prefer to see. Magic dashes feel fine cause they're magic. Short sidesteps are fine because they are realistic. Big rolls should only go forward and to the sides and would have to be very precisely timed if you wanted to avoid any attacks with them. I could maybe see a rogue or a ranger doing a backflip or some shit, but I'd have to see the animation for it first. We've already seen the ranger doing some air pirouettes, so backflips wouldn't stand ...

Much much better. Still just a bit floaty on that backdash, but the animation shows the weight of the character much better than the bdo one.
Post by Ludullu on 2022-10-12 18:50:03
Could you elaborate though? Cause I can't see how the attacker is suffering less than the victim.
Post by Ludullu on 2022-10-12 19:10:17
Functionally you'll be lvl1. Your stats will be decreased that much. But again, that's only if Intrepid has a huuuuge pool of corruption that you could potentially fill up.

In L2 any rogue could remove your target, or at the very least change it to another target than himself. Barely anyone used the "tab" function (at least in my experience), so you had to click on the rogue's character to retarget him again or you'd have to receive a basic attack from him for the game to autotarget you (rogues barely ever made basic attacks, unless they had no mp). Rogues always tried to move behind your back, because some of their abilities only worked there, so the rogues would be constantly repositioning themselves. If you ever only ...

Again though, what's the attacker's goal in this situation? Was it to just kill the green? Was it his resources? Was it the farming location? If it's the first : as I said, the attacker won't be able to do it for too long, because they'll get hunted or get too much stat dampen due to high corruption. If it's the second : I'd assume the goal would be to get as much as possible, right? So anything that is not a green kill would be a hit against the goal. Either you stop or the victim runs away ...

But this is exactly what I'm talking about. You said L2's forced detarget/retarget requires you to pay attention to your entire screen and not just your rotations. It needs you to react as soon as your targeting changes in any way. It needs you to track your preferred target so that you can immediately retarget them (L2 pvp videos show that everyone is always moving). And your aiming must be more precise, because the amount of pixels an enemy character takes up on your screen in L2 is way lower than bdo's or even NW's amount. And considering how ...

And as I already said, this is not a PK. This is a pvp kill. And the green got rewarded with lessened drops for fighting back.
Post by Ludullu on 2022-10-12 20:21:08
The green player has normal death penalties . If he dies to a mob - he will still lose the same amount as he would if he died to another player. Fighting back is encouraged because it halves the death penalty. You are rewarded for fighting back, not punished. You can obviously dislike the death penalties as a whole, but that's a whole different discussion. I'm not sure if I understand these situations. If your victims fight back, that's just a pvp. They lost less stuff, you're not a PKer. If the mob kills your victim you don't get ...

Which is why I'm saying that even tab target games can require you to have the same sort of skills you listed. And I really hope Ashes has that kind of design, though, from what I saw in the ranger video, it doesn't look like it will. I'm definitely gonna be asking for as much targeting gameplay as possible in my feedback.
Post by Ludullu on 2022-10-12 20:26:29
I've already listed the risks. The smallest risk was in case of the victim only hitting the attacker once and then dying. I think that this will be the least likely situation in the game. The victim will either fight back as much as they can (risk of dying for the attacker or being at low hp so someone else can finish him off) or they'll just run away to keep all of their stuff.

There's only gear, no separation. You'll have your artisan stuff, but as Steven said, that's a separate set of gear that got nothing to do with the combat stuff. And if you were talking about artisan gear, then you're right.

I have a better question, what major mmo is a pvp tab target one? Did AA have detargeting? Cause I feel like that's the only other tab pvp mmo out there.
