But would the self-healing be a huge benefit to a solo farmer? Imo this is also the counterbalance to the "not everyone can heal" part. The healers might have lower dps, but they have heals so they can go for way longer (especially in a melee/range build that doesn't depend on mana usage as much), while others must rely on hp regen methods to sustain their farming. So while it might be a simplistic design, I think it is somewhat balanced that way. I personally prefer soloable content to be on the side of specialized design, rather than a ...

Bois and girls, I literally linked Steven's explanation of how the castle siege scroll would be casted.

And this is why I loved L2's sieges. They were just open to whoever (but only the registered ones could get the castle). This led to a ton of scheming and politics and backstabbings and sudden alliances, with some of that stuff happening literally during the siege itself rather than preplanned. If some guild was way too strong and had pretty much no registered attackers - they were free to go to another castle and help whichever side of the siege. And rarely this could lead to this strong guild's castle getting sneakily taken, because a very tricky attacker ...

Oh, I'm not against him changing the mechanics or features that he has liked in other games. It's just that purely involvement-wise, most people would only care about the siege of their own node cause they have a connection to it and an investment in it. And I don't think that any given node will have too many sieges within a month. So while it is true that players who're interested in purely the gameplay of a siege itself could probably find one at most times, due to there being 85 nodes, no one outside of that pool of ...

Oh how the turns have tabled (not really). My preference for the "specialized" mob design was the same one that Steven holds. And in case those heals DO only hit undead mobs (which I doubt from what was said) - Steven might've stolen L2's farming scheme too Though this was a purely damaging skill there, but it only worked against undead mobs. And the Bishop class that Steven mentioned used this to farm solo. Though like I said, I do think that the ability will be able to damage any mobs, pretty much for the exact reasons Azherae pointed ...

Liked it. The skybox looked nice. I prefer this level of visibility, especially considering 3 damn huge moons in the sky. And the cycle being only a few hours rather than being tied to real world time is great too.

Loved the synergies and definitely want more. Definitely want every archetype to have a synergistic ability with every other archetype, so that the "one of each in a party" design was quite viable. Ability animations and effects looked nice and not too overbearing (which was a problem in some other games). Liked that some spells held you in place, while others could be casted on the go. Love that we'll have different mob and attack types and interactions. Helps with RP and imo it's a nice design choice. Would prefer all blocking/running/etc stuff to be mana-based, purely because that ...

I'd probably prefer a way to separate low impact pots/food from high impact one. Low impact would be more abundant, but would also drop (in the same way as Azherae described), while high impact would be rarer and wouldn't drop. Ideally the high impact stuff would require low impact stuff in its crating recipe, so that the low impact stuff would be considered an unfinished product, which would allow it to be dropped. So, in a way, what neuro said about player power, but still allowing for some of that player power to get lost. And to me this ...

I can definitely agree that I'd like these videos to be better structured. I definitely understand Azherae's point of "having a feel of what the gameplay might be", but I definitely agree with neuro that the "feeling" part of the video could've come after just even a brief explanation of the things that we'd see during that part. I think Steven did try to show off a bit of stuff all at the same time, cause he was hovering over some skills at the start, he showed off the tree gathering (as a clickbait for the previous stream), tried ...

As has been stated muuuultiple times in multiple streams, yes, the UI will be very customizable.

Did you play L2 during C6, or were you gone by then? Cause those mob rushes reminded me of the mobs on the primal isle You'd be just strolling around 10 miles away from any mob and then suddenly you see a huge pack of dinos x2 your size running towards you at full speed. Fun times.

I mean, looking at it from this exact perspective was what made me create this thread. The top 10% would be the exact people who'd do anything to cling to their power and money. And there again I'm talking from experience from L2's guilds. And the current system wouldn't allow for those 10% to fight each other, because all of those below would be glad to get even the slightest bit of power and the money that the defending guild could pay them (in case they go with merc guilds for this scheme) would provide them with that little ...

Yep, I'm talking about this. Including the various types of weapon types. Though considering that Ashes will allow anyone use any weapon, I'd prefer this particular differentiation to have a smaller influence on archetype dmg values. And I explained why in my previous comment. Ah, and I should've added that the ability from the picture could only be used against the undead, so the healers couldn't farm any other mob with it. Which is why I said that Steven would probably avoid that kind of design and referenced your reasoning for that decision.

Not to brag, but I led such a guild on one of L2 private servers. And I'm far from being a great GL, so I'm sure there's people out there who could control 500 players with relative ease and no worries about being overtaken by their subordinates. Sadly I don't think I have any screenshots from that time, so you're free to not believe me.

That's the point. We weren't top 10%, we were just a huge guild of relatively relaxed players. I did stop several groups from the guild who were trying to push me onto bigger content (mainly wars against stronger guilds). Those groups didn't leave and didn't complain that much, because I told them that my guild wasn't meant for that stuff when I was making it. But even though we were like that, we still participated in sieges, we still attacked very strong guilds during those sieges (failed quite miserably) and then teamed up with another strong guild to try ...

Nodes are stationary. Steven wants node allegiances to be the highest priority, even above guilds ones. If people come to agree with that design direction (especially if its enforced through in-game systems) then most people would live stationary lives. Your closest connection to the "outside world" would most likely be the vassal system of your node. But unless you're at some higher point in that system, I'm not exactly sure what would push a plain node citizen to go defend another vassal node that's on the other side of their metro. I could maybe see how metro's citizens might ...

I was forced to socialize in L2 through it's requirement to have other people help you. I couldn't solo 90% of the content and the 10% that I could would've taken me weeks and months to progress even a bit. L2 didn't have autopartying (in earlier updates), so I had to go talk to people and make friends. And because I was forced to choose who I talk to (out of several guilds and then out of several parties within the chosen guild), I had a much higher chance to find people who I'd jell with nicely. Which then ...

Yeah, I'd assume this would be the biggest reason for me being wrong. Just as L2 mostly had people who'd want to go rush castles even if it was futile, Ashes might attract and hold people who'd care about neighbor nodes or would be interested in the fighting content itself to go across the world and fight a foreign war. But we'll only learn this after release (maybe even a few years in), so yeah, purely speculation for now. And as I said before, having 500x500 castle sieges would definitely help with my issue, so for now I'll just ...

I'd assume they have internal QA teams running the game fairly often if not constantly, right? So why don't we have the usual Steven videos, but then when they come back to the stream to discuss what was shown, the video in the background would show the perspective of the QA peeps doing very similar actions (or maybe even better ones) to show off the same stuff, but with better quality of gameplay. And if Intrepid released that video as a separate thing, or even just an additional part at the end of the main YT vid - I ...

It's 3:33 am here right now. Literally an hour ago I looked at my window and thought to myself "why da fuck is it this light outside". I went to look through the window and noticed that it's full moon today. It was literally as light as it was on the stream. And Verra has 3 moons, 2 of which A FUCKING HUGE IN THE SKY. I'd be just fine if Ashes had a moon cycle where it becomes a bit darker once a week or so, but please, people, don't go yelling that it's too bright in the ...

No, I live in a city that literally has its electricity turned off for 4h every 2h. It's exactly because of the lack of artificial light that the moon was that bright.

As they said themselves, they haven't been following AoC. Though I think the "lately" part is the usual "I don't know jack at all". But yes, their description is literally how I imagine the augments to be designed.

Just yesterday I was thinking about whether any games have ever tried using visual illusions as a tool for scaring players. Stuff like faces in the tree outlines and branches, using light to move shadows in a very particular way, and other stuff like that (especially the face in things stuff). I think that with the latest UE updates this kind of stuff might be way more widespread in the upcoming games, but I'd assume those would still be a few years off from now. And I don't think I've heard about games that have done stuff like this ...

As others have said, the world will be smaller than that whole number. The players will be concentrated in bigger cities and farming locations (which will be around those big cities). And what I'd add on top of that is that we need all that space to house all the freehold that people will build. NW is a "run wherever you want and be there" kind of game, while Ashes seems to be "stay in one place and help it prosper" kind of game. You'll see density of people when you do any non-solo content (though I'd assume that ...

Steven has already said that they'd move onto 5.1
Post by Ludullu on 2022-12-05 01:57:13
That second one could be properly designed around, while keeping the "realism" of that kind of situation. Just as Azherae said, people are very good at adapting to changes, so Intrepid could have the entrance to the cave be super dark and with no ranged mobs anywhere around, while the deeper parts are brighter because the character "got used to" the darkness. Though depending on dev tools, this kind of design could vary from "a gimmicky mechanic where if you stand 5m into a dungeon everything is fucking black w/o changes" to "characters perfectly react to sudden changes in ...

I'd prefer 80% of the content to be purely group-based and 20% to be soloable but with a ranging difficulty. And the content from the stream seemed like right around the harder side of soloable content to me. I'd just pull only a few mobs when I have my big nukes on cd. And unless the difficulty will come from purely the sponginess of enemies - these mobs would definitely be quite soloable. Agro ranges were fairly low, grouping was pretty sparse and with some proper movement you could easily only pull a few mobs at a time, if ...

Yes, iirc it was either at the start of the stream or right after the video.
