Where would you want difficulty to come from then? If it's not "you gonna die real quick if you mess up" then what?

Corruption will address lowbie kills. After just a few lowbie PKs your character won't be able to pvp effectively and you'll have to run away from BHs for hours while trying to grind off the corruption or you'll just have to die a ton of times, which will put your character's power several lvls below your effective lvl. The same applies to repeated PKs, because your PK count will multiply corruption gain values. A guild going through each one of their members just to PK some randoes, while dividing the corruption amongst themselves, will succeed for a time, but ...

While I totally agree with and definitely want that kind of complexity in the game's combat, what you described is pretty much "one-shot" in my eyes. It just comes in another form and has a slightly different approach to the "you mess up - you die quickly" design. Except instead of a quick reaction-requiring mechanic it's more of a prolonged "proper planning and execution" one. And while I want that second one very very much, I'm pretty sure that the majority of players would simply say that the game is too hard and that their party members keep fucking ...

I'd play it

I'd bet they'll be the ones that thrive the most, because while some people will avoid them due to "omg I'm like so behind everyone waahhh", a ton of people would not care about that shit and they'd instead just see a less populated server that has either no queues or just small ones. And with that server being populated by people who don't care about the "race" as much - it'll be more successful in just existing and everyone just enjoying themselves on it.

You either quoted the wrong person or complained about the wrong comment. Sun wasn't addressing your OP.

If you're fine with releveling those alts constantly or creating a ton of them after every few kills - yeah, that might be a valid strat. But at that point I'd have to ask: could you not just overwhelm them through farm instead of PKing them? Cause if you're willing to go to those kinds of lengths to just fuck over a few randos (that is, bringing your alts to specific spots, logging onto those alts to kill the randos and then dealing with the corruption after that) - I'd assume you have enough player resources to just be ...

The position on pvp was set a long time ago. The punishments for PKing are more severe than in L2, but otherwise it's pretty much a copy of that system. Dunno where you got that "pressed by his colleagues" thing, considering that Margaret quite often comments about her hardcore pvping escapades back in the day. Steven said, that "for fun" part will be bannable, because you'd be repeatedly killing people for no reason. And the point of this system is to limit that "something". And if the limit is good enough, the amount of complaints will be small enough ...

Except both headstart and cosmetics were pretty much in the game from the very start. So it's not like they suddenly came out of nowhere and draw a direct line to "this game will 100% become p2w because of this shit".
Post by Ludullu on 2023-02-22 20:40:22
These days the meaning of p2w is quite blurred. And I'd say that a few days of a headstart on predetermined servers and some cosmetics is one of the least p2w ways to monetize the game. If anyone disagrees with that to such a point that they don't want to play the game cause Steven "lied to them" about p2w - that's their choice and they're free to do so (not saying you're like that).

If a party is missing some crucial role, they can have 2 of their members get that role's augments and fill that empty space somewhat. I'd imagine that the absolute majority of parties won't do top lvl content with missing roles, so the current system should be more than enough to provide players with a way to fill a role w/o completely changing their main archetype.
Post by Ludullu on 2023-02-23 16:43:24
Subclasses could replace an archetype because they pretty much become that archetype (even if with a few limitations). Augments only fill out a role in an incomplete way. The negative effect would come from higher self-sufficiency of smaller parties. You only have 5 people instead of 8? You can still do more content if you choose the correct subclasses (well, that is if Intrepid design their game well enough to require different archetypes for different content). But if you have 5 people that can only get augments on their base archetype abilities - some content will be unavailable to ...

The melee weapon showcase had a bit of what you're talking about. Mainly the pushback mechanic. I really hope they can keep that design up for the majority of mobs in the game and definitely all the bosses. And I think even with a heavy tab lean in design, the combat could still be way more active. You just gotta make the blocking costly, make the dodge stat-based on top of a pure dodge for the action part of the combat (say, when you're in a dodge move your evasion stat is strongly boosted) and have mobs hit like ...

I've had almost the exact opposite experience. Rogues were very good at solo leveling, useful in party leveling due to their high single target damage and debuffs, amazing in pvp and mass pvp (again, due to super high single target dmg), very useful in raids (cause valuable debuffs) and were the best gank class in the game. Steven played the same game, so there's a chance that AoC rogues would have some of the same characteristics. As for mass pve - fuck no. I don't want literally all the archetypes to do the same shit. Some of them will ...

I've both played and GLed guilds that had several dagger parties in L2. They had big impact in sieges, did a ton of damage in raids (and enabled tyrs/destrs to do more) and they were needed in party pvp because of their super high burst dps. Maybe you played L2 on super early chronicles, where daggers didn't have gap closers or stealth or other useful tools? We got no idea how sea combat will be designed so it's hard to say what impact any archetype would have. If sea content can only be cleared by mages and archers - ...

And that's the tools I was talking about. I definitely want detargeting abilities/passives in Ashes and rogues to be the main archetype that uses them. And even semi-transparent visuals on a stealthed rogue would prevent the majority of people in a siege to miss them. Sieges are always a mess and it's gonna be really difficult to see a stealthed rogue through all the effects and other people. And alternatively sea pvp could involve boarding the enemy ships or even shooting people out of cannons or some shit. And rogues would be perfect for that because they're the best ...

Total no on AI generated content, cause it would require too many limitations and would probably only mean more work for the devs. But definitely support AI VA if it gets good enough by the time the game comes out. Though I'd imagine that it might cost even more than human VAs, cause I'm pretty sure that AI stuff will get covered in legal shit in the next few years and that always brings high costs with it.
Post by Ludullu on 2023-02-24 18:50:05
I mean, I'm not against taking inspiration from the AI but when it comes to the potential proper development of content purely by the AI - I'm not sure we're there yet. Most likely that misconception comes from my non-existent experience in game design and development, but I feel like you'd need to put a thousand blinders on the AI "horse" before you can let it run the track. And even then you'd probably need to control it along the way. If devs are having some troubles with quest design or storytelling or class balancing - yeah, there's probably ...

Looks great. Definitely would love a search option in inventory and options windows. Also, if we could mirror the windows that would be great. The crafting window was left-to-right and I'd like to be able to switch it to a right-to-left option, so I could have it on the right side of the screen when I need to.

I don't think we can switch our artisan professions once we've gone deep enough into one, so imo as long as the background choice tells you which artisan profession it relates to - it would be fine to have that choice at the start of the game. I'd imagine quite a lot of people have their preferred gameplay even before they start the game, rather than choosing one only after trying everything out first. Though maybe Intrepid should do a discussion thread on that topic and get a poll going or smth. Maybe everyone just doesn't know what they ...

I do hope they balance the corruption gain well enough for that owpvp to even exist though. Obviously most of the pvp will happen in wars and pvp events, but I do think that corruption could be balanced in such a way that people can afford at least a few PKs a week w/o completely fucking up their character forever.

What I expect to see? Literally fuckall. I expect to see the same mobs, with the same non-existent AI, on the same 15 lvls, with the same 4 archetypes and probably same 4 players instead of full 8. I expect to only see a few semi-populated rooms and maaaaybe a boss at the end of a corridor deeper in the dungeon. What I want to see? All the things I've listed but much better. But as we all know

Nah, anything I come up with will not be in that showcase no matter how far away it is I'd rather just prepare myself for the worst right now than overhype myself on my own supply of copium and then get disappointed when the showcase is nowhere near what I thought up for myself. But I agree with George. I pretty much want Cruma or ToI from L2. Both of them are basic as hell, so it's really not a high bar to clear for Intrepid. Just some rooms with some mobs and a boss at the end (with ...

Yep, all of that would be something that I'd like but will not expect to see
Post by Ludullu on 2023-02-24 22:45:31
Ok, that's true. And this would probably be my biggest piece of feedback for purely the showcase itself. Please, shoot the video beforehand, explore as much as you like and show off whatever you want BUT! Instead of doing a live commentary during the recording, just invite a dungeon/AI/mob/etc design dev onto the showcase stream and co-comment the video together. In other words, literally do director commentary on the muted video (maybe low sfx/music). You can stop the video at any point and go in-depth on your discussion w/o constantly panicking that you aggroed half the damn dungeon while ...

Definitely agree, but hope that we can get all those roles, cause I'm sure there'll be people who play enough to max out any and all ways of character progression (I will ).

He did mention the public threads. But I do agree that hands-on experience is more valuable. And a ton of hours of that experience is even more valuable.

I don't remember if it was explicitly stated that we couldn't use our freehold storage as PKs. Though no! @Noaani I just doublechecked, Steven said we could use freehold storage. So that was a change. edit: there was also the change of "players can pvp within the freehold but not the house" (before it was the whole freehold), so there's just that 1-2 seconds of running that PKers would need to hide themselves from any pursuers.

Unless Intrepid decide to make war declaration costs insanely high - most "pve crowders" will never even see content. Only guilds that either pvp or have friends who pvp will be able to get great gear. And then with that great gear they'll be able to just outfarm anyone who refuses to flag up against those guilds. But yeah, it'll all be tested and I'm still pretty sure that even war-based pvp will be limited because people will in fact push Intrepid to make the costs for war way too high. I'd love to be proven wrong though.

Why do you think this makes BHs more useless? Cause the change would lead to more group-based PKing, that BHs can't really do anything about?
