The main reason I kinda dislike this suggestion is the chance that a lot of people won't just farm their own node (or even node system). Unless Intrepid somehow manage to pack enough mob variety within each and every node that literally any lvl and any class/artisan can acquire everything they need within a single node - people will travel to other nodes to do more content. And if a PKer can only feel the impact of stat dampening (I'm assuming you're talking about that PKer already having a few kills under their belt, so their new PK immediately ...

Yeah, one of my main fears rn is that Intrepid will gimp the corruption system before alpha2 to such an extent that the anti-pvp crowd will grow even bigger and keep supporting that hardcore gimping (if not push even further). And by the time the game releases we'll see a situation similar to NW in effect, even if it's not a direct toggle. It's already really damn harsh on paper and I doubt that we'll get to really test it out before the later stages of alpha2 (if not even betas). And the counterbalance seems to come from pvp ...

Ok, now you've completely lost me. First of all, corruption-based stat dampening only influences pvp stats, so it would most likely only apply to fights against greens (because there'll probably be no purples around and greens won't flag against the red). I'd imagine that the absolute majority of PKers wouldn't want to fight those greens either way, because that's just digging your own grave X times faster. Second. Are you agreeing with my "a place removes your corruption faster" suggestion? You just want that place to be the node of the victim rather than the PKer's, right? I could ...

As Arya said, that is an intended gameplay mechanic. But yes, war decs will have a cost so I doubt a lot of guilds could even make declarations at big scales. Also, if you declare war on several guilds - you'll get attacked by all those guilds too. And while a strong guild might overpower a few weaker guilds here and there, if that strong guild declares a ton of wars against everyone around they'll get overwhelmed due to being spread out too thin. I've declared wars on whole private servers back in L2 days and we could only ...

Pretty much what George said. And afaik SWG had an even deeper system and Ashes is going for a crafting system like that. And Steven has played L2 so at the very least he could rely on that.

I guess we just have different outlooks on how corruption should be designed then That's good. Intrepid will have a wide variety of feedback outside the obvious "owpvp bad, mkay".

Taxes are taxes! Everyone pays and no one can escape. Also, quite a lot of crafters won't be buying mats, they'll be provided them.

What if?! WHAT IF?! This was just a preparation for a reveal of Intrepid following my suggestion and making corruption cleansing pace faster and linking victim loot to them and adding a BH system that promotes returning of that loot, and PKer's items will only start dropping after all of the victim's loot drops?!?!
Post by Ludullu on 2023-02-26 04:09:10
Yeah, or just a circle of friends sharing everything with each other. Or crafters helping out their nodemates for no price (I know I will do this).

I think that would only add spawncamping and would also add way too much running to an already running-based game. But I do agree that respawns should be well-thought-out and distance to any respawn point from any farming point (mob or environment) should be carefully balanced. Cause it'll influence PKing and any owpvp that might happen.

If trading is allowed than any trading with a PKer should lead to their partner getting some corruption. The PKer won't care about the goods, they'll only care about their own stuff getting damaged on death. The PKer would just trade away their stuff, have their partner kill them on the spot and loot the stolen goods. Also, no point in allowing PKers storage if you want to have a timegate on the stolen goods. BHs wouldn't know where the goods are or who even had them, because the PKer would just put them in the storage, cleanse their ...

Steven moved away from the L2 wars design for a reason (whichever it is), so nay.

Iirc Intrepid said there'd be an area around important locations (like dungeons, roads, etc) that people wouldn't be able to set their freehold on. And with the game growing in size by a fair bit, I'd imagine that this area can be even bigger than it was previously planned. Either way, I just think that all these evergrowing negative corruption designs will just turn the game into a "toggle pvp" mmo. With the toggle being the pvp events. Maybe that's exactly what Steven wants, but then I would've liked him to say so a long time ago. But alas. ...

And non-consensual wars didn't go around the karma system, so the situation is pretty much the same in Ahses. The main difference is that the war is centered around a goal of some kind. But we don't even know what that goal is. Maybe if 2 guilds just agree to ignore that goal they can have an indefinite war with constant pvp.

That is if it is in fact "quickly", which I kinda doubt at this point. And as much as some of us will give feedback to keep it quick, I'm 100% sure there'll be x1000 voices yelling at Intrepid to make it super slow. This is why I was heavily coping in my first comment on this page. There's the smallest sliver of chance that at least the first 2-3 PKs won't make you grind mobs for several hours.

Definitely hope we can see node allegiances in player nameplates. That would play into the "node is your highest allegiance" design goal.

Then you have a very positive outlook on the potential balancing of corruption cleansing speeds. Cause to me "way longer than L2's" means a shiiiiitton of grind. L2 was hella grindy so it made sense that you'd need to kill a ton of stuff to remove your karma. But Ashes is not supposed to be grindy, yet corruption cleansing will supposedly take longer than L2? Make that make sense. I think that Steven doesn't have a concrete idea of where he wants the balancing to be, so he just keeps telling all the carebears "don't be afraid, corruption will ...

I'm like 90% sure that official servers were waaaay worse with this than private ones (cause XP rates were lower, so karma would go away slower). And Steven played on the official ones. So, if anything, even my own suppositions are probably understating how long it'd take to cleanse yourself. Steven also played on earlier updates of the game and those were even harsher than later ones.
Post by Ludullu on 2023-02-27 14:46:39
Could you go into that detail? Cause I'm definitely sure that the majority of private servers had higher rates. I'm sure that rates were tied to karma cleansing cause I tested that the last time this topic came up. I'm sure that Steven played L2 on earlier updates cause he played both Aion and AA and those came out right after the first few L2 patches, so he must've either moved on or at least greatly slowed down his L2 gameplay. The only thing I don't know for sure is whether he played on official or private servers, but ...

You said it yourself, it's the players that are ruining the games. So what exactly do you expect Intrepid to do differently? Do you want them to constantly nerf every single random class that some random dude on the internet said was OP? Cause that would be as stupid as whatever bliz/riot did in the past.
Post by Ludullu on 2023-02-28 12:09:44
No difficulty will be high enough to stop those organized groups from speedrunning the game. And even if there is such a difficulty - it would push away literally 99% of players, because they'd be unable to even play the game with that kind of difficulty.

We haven't gotten any concrete info on this, but I was imagining this more as a "node dictate which mobs you get and how deep they spawn", while all the physical locations never move. So the tower would probably always be in the same place, but depending on which node controls the zoi that covers the tower's location, mobs inside might differ. And depending on the lvl of that node we might have access only to a few floors instead of the whole tower. And if it happens that the controlling node hasn't been built up or was just ...

You went from seemingly good points to the old boring "steven's an mlmer and ashes is bordering on scam", with a ton of different points in-between. I don't care about 2 niche weapons (with potion launchers still present in the game on ships), but I do care about base mechanics of the game and core designs. Weapons can always be added later on, but changing core mechanics would be much harder. I'd rather get the game a bit sooner w/o a third form of a bow and a glorified carriable cannon, than wait for even longer than we'll already ...

For 2 removed weapons they increased the map and restructured node volume to provide better content for the players. For 2 removed weapons they made seas and node ruins ffa pvp zones. For 2 removed weapons they added/made a ton of other shit that I forget right now. So I disagree with you drawing a line from one point of not-yet-existing content removal, because they've made a ton of other stuff that is still there to provide content. Oh, also, weren't tulnar also a stretch goal? And we've already gotten their progress on that.

Yes, those are all true, but what do we know for sure about the development? Do animators just sit on their ass while the environment team is working? What about 3d modelers? What about combat designers/coders? And what about all of them working at the same time and having planned out progress that, in theory, should roughly match each other's pace so that the game could be released with all of their work, rather than full animations on everything but unfinished environments (or the other way around). Also, have we seen any indication that there'll be mobs with crossbows ...
Post by Ludullu on 2023-03-01 02:24:03
At 33:54 here they laugh at crossbows being accidentally included on the screenshot and then remove them, which to me seems like a good indicator that even in 2018 they already at least thought of not including those in the game https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nff_kdiKdDU Also, I've tried looking for concrete info, but I can't find any indication of particularly crossbows or launchers being promised in the kickstarter. And wiki seems to have moved on from them and only points towards those weapons just mentioned in the context of APOC. Do you have a link that directly shows Intrepid promising these 2 ...

But I don't think we have any idea what kind of world Sanctus was. Did it have proper environment to support rapid progress? Did it have chemical materials to produce different things that we could make on earth? Also, a quick google says that first crossbows appeared ~400BC and first human civilizations was somewhere around 4-3kBC, so even if we completely disregard the thousands of years of human experimentation with weapon building (and we know that humans love killing each other and others), it's still several thousands of years before we came up with the crossbow. And it was ...
