It did require a ton of trust for the players who I gave it to, but I'd assume that only guilds that have been playing together for years would even come close to farming the bosses who drop uniques, so I'm almost sure that they'd have the same approach to those items.

Now, obviously I dunno this for sure, but I'm 95% sure that the boss that drops Uniques will drop a shitton of other stuff as well. And the Unique will most likely not drop on the first farm of the boss. In other words, the content will always be valuable, even after the Unique is dropped. The top guilds will still be the only ones to farm it. The only way to communize the hell out of Uniques is to literally prohibit the same guilds from even participating in the farm of the boss. And not just once, but ...

Again though, this only applies if that boss' whole damn loot table is so trash that only the Unique is valuable, which will never be the case because Unique is a singular item. No reasonable guild would be farming a boss for a single item, let alone top lvl guilds. I can kinda understand your point about dev time spent on an item that's gonna be in the hands of a single person, but at that point it's on Intrepid to decide what they wanna do with their time/money. But the "it will remove content for people" argument is ...

I find it a bit funny that our views differ in this way, yet you give examples that really support my view. I look at Uniques as if they are already legends at the time of them dropping. So examples of one ring and anakin's saber are those exact legends. Those items had a huuuge history exactly because they were held by a super powerful ONE person for a damn long time (their respective stories just had different time scales of course). To me, that ONE person would be exactly the one whose name would be used when talking ...

In your opinion, how long should it take to make a top lvl gear build in Ashes? Outside the Unique items' context. Say even outside pure full legendary builds. Just the next BiS build before legendary tier, how long should that take a person to get?

You save the one in your party, as should do the other 4 healers, because every party should have at least one healer in their setup during a raid. And if those 5 players are all in your party - you better figure out why that's the case, because they're fucking up your gameplay. Your responsibility to heal them doesn't remove their responsibility to make your life as easy as possible. And if the dmg was inevitable, you choose the one who helps your party's gameplay the most. And in the context of having combat rez class abilities and ...

What I was trying to get at was this. The Unique will not necessarily fit your current build. Hell, it might not even fit any of the builds in your raid/guild. So at that point, the one who gets the Unique will have to create a whole new build to fit the Unique. And if that build takes several weeks (let alone months-year+) - the Unique would be gone before they even get to use it properly. And the chances that someone outside your guild has the perfect build for that item and has enough money to pay your ...

If Intrepid go down the "fits anyone" route with Uniques, I guess I wouldn't really care if they are short-lived. Mainly because, in a way, that's how L2's "uniques" worked. While they weren't one-of-a-kind items, they did fit a broad range of applicable classes. And as for guilds, as I said here before, I shared those very uniques in L2 with others, so yeah I know that guilds will give the item to the most appropriate member (well, unless they're nepotists of course). But literally the same thing would happen with the long-lived Unique, which is why I don't ...

Yes, but across a super long time of having that Unique in guild's possession, there might be players that decide to work towards a build that matches it. If anything, I feel like this would be a deeper overall interaction for all sides involved, as long as we all know the Uniques that drop. Say Guild A drops a weapon for a specific tank build. Other pieces of that build drop in a particular location. Now guild B, that's been trying to fight guild A for a long time, knows that they could contest that location to try and ...

They did. But Steven saw that they did and hired a good producer. That's kinda why we're several years behind the initial promised release date and why we aren't getting any promises anymore (well, relatively speaking). So Ashes wasn't too far from CoE, but it kept moving away farther and farther with time.

Iirc 2019 or somewhere there? @Noaani you've been here a long time, do you remember when they got the producer?

I mean, you literally just explained when it'll release. And I kinda agree with those numbers. Maybe instead of year of A2 and a year of 2 betas, I think it'll be 2 years of A2 and ~a year - 1.5 till release after that.

Now, don't get your hopes way too high up, but I definitely do hope that they manage to get a proper raid (even if it's just 3-4 parties).

How would it be any more OP than a system that lets the tank to just mechanically dodge incoming attacks? If the boss' attacks are all action and can be dodged - the tank is already OP. If the boss' attacks are tab (or at least some are), then there can be no such thing as an evasion tank w/o an "accuracy vs evasion" stat comparison. And in the case of pvp, you want to get hit, because that's a hit that didn't go towards your mate. And if you're getting hit - you'd hope to be able to ...

I think I'm misunderstanding smth or missing context. As I understand it the stat evasion IS the rng. Like, if you have 100 accuracy and the tank has 101 evasion - you'll still hit him a ton of times, but he'll be able to evade you quite a bit too. It's not like he'll start 100% evading anything that doesn't match his evasion in accuracy. Is that a wrong assumption? Is that last sentence exactly how it works in some games?

As in, your attack just has a random chance to miss, no matter the stats of your target? If that's the case - that's the stupidest thing I've heard. I gueeeeess I could see it as a "critical fail" in a d&d setup or smth like that, where instead of even aiming at your target your character shoots the ground or the sky, but I just cannot see how that could be anywhere near usable in an mmo situation. The more you know, I guess.

For me it's world exploration and neverending grind of my character's strength growth. Pvp, pve, quests, etc - that's all good, but that's just plain gameplay. I've got a ton of that in any other game. But if the world is interesting to explore and I can grind the game for hours to get a +0.1% power for my char - now that's what would hold me in the game.

I treat that stuff under the "rule" of "only crazy people post on the internet". And in this particular case it's the crazies of the crazies. I'm somewhat of a spammer on the forums, but the dungeon Office Hours was the first discussion I attended and I saw that only a select few participated, let alone talked. I'd assume Intrepid realize that those who give feedback during those discussions are only the insanely invested ones who have very particular views on things, that quite often differ from the general public's opinion. Now, that being said, I do agree that ...

I wasn't there for the Mage one cause I don't care about mage that much. And I only texted in the dungeon discussion, cause I'm too shy about my spoken english And Intrepid pick the ones who "raise their hand" out of the crowd. Back in the dungeon discussion it was pretty much the same people for all rounds and I'd almost bet that it was the same people in this discussion too, just cause I'm sure that people who were willing to talk previously would be way more likely to talk in the future.

Carebearness of the game will highly depend on content design and how costly a war declaration will be. If content pretty much requires you to have a party at all (or at least most) times - you'll probably want to join a guild to have a semi-constant group of people to play with. If you're in a guild and farming something even semi-valuable - there's other people who want to do the same and will be willing to wardec your guild. At that point they'll be free to kill you at any point in any location w/o any penalties. ...

The best way to check whether there is output rng in Ashes is to hit lvl1 mobs as a much higher lvl character. If you ever miss - there's either output rng or the scaling of stat comparisons is quite mean to the attacker. If your 100acc can miss against 1ev, then I'd assume that you'd be missing quite a bit against any characters that are near your accuracy stats.

Ok, great. This is all semantics that we should not give a shit about at this current moment. Do you agree with Neura's point or do you want literally any and all points of rng in combat gone?
Post by Ludullu on 2023-05-19 08:54:23
Here's a question then. Would you be ok if every possible class could completely destroy any other class, as long as the player has enough skill to do it? Or would that be OP? Because the mage's opponents would be exactly the people who'd know whether the mage is OP or not. If no matter what you do, you still can't beat a mage - the mage is OP. And if that applies to any class - the mage is insanely OP.
Post by Ludullu on 2023-05-19 10:21:49
Unless I misunderstood him, he wants standard rng. And doesn't want the design choice of "your attack could miss at any random point, even if you're a lvl100 dude attacking a lvl1 mob". Imo it's utterly pointless to discuss (and especially argue) semantics, when you agree on the point that's being made by either side. At least as long as those semantics don't stand in the way of making the point. I guess you misunderstood Neura's point which is why you argued about semantics. You could've instead just asked to clarify the point. Woulda saved both yours, Neura's and ...

Magic reflect buffs/passives/consumables/etc counter the mageball aoe stuff. Those counters should obviously be balanced in a way that they're not too op in day-to-day gameplay, but using them during a coordinated push against a group of mages on castle walls should work great against those aoes. Obviously it won't resolve the issue completely, but it'll at least make that mageball weaker and might make them use other strats.

Also, the combat wouldn't slow down for the party. If anything, when one member is taunted - the other 7 gotta pick up the pace, because that one member might be dying any moment now. And if it's the healer that's taunted, oooohh - you're in trouble!
Post by Ludullu on 2023-05-20 07:14:28
HP pools are also singular in their nature, but there's a ton of ways of interacting with them (even if the main goal is to just bring it down). Same could be applied to hate lists. In my experience of playing a tank with a pvp taunt, it was used in 3 scenarios. I was either saving my healer from a rogue that wanted to kill him (which then led to assist hits on that rogue to remove him) or I was aggroing the enemy dps to stop them from dpsing, which usually let my own rogues close in ...
