That's one of the reasons why I loved Lineage 2. It had 5 bars of 12 slots (at later updates) and had a ton of specialized and interactive abilities, that had their own cds with 0 gcd. And the more bars got added with game's updates (it started with just 1, though you could scroll through 10 setups of it, so in a way you had 120 slots), the more intricate the class design was. Situational abilities are awesome and lead to very interesting pvp that requires a ton of knowledge of the game and general awareness of your ...

If Intrepid resorts to having sieges be instanced, I'd definitely like this kind of feature, and in theory it wouldn't add to much work for developers. But if the sieges remain open world, I'm not sure if this would be feasible. I'd love to be wrong on that.

Ideas for an ideal CHAT

Post by Ludullu on 2022-04-24 18:16:35

As a Lineage 2 simp, I find its chat amazing. Simplistic yet editable. Obviously just give players as many options to customize it as possible. Make it the Winamp of mmo chats!

Raids, Dungeons, Release Dates. Etc

There's no novelty though. It's going back to the roots of mmos instead. They were way more interesting than wow instances, because you'd meet people there and pvp with them a ton of the time. And human prey is way more fun than some random mobs.

Discussion; secondary class doesn't matter.

Post by Ludullu on 2022-04-24 20:17:47

Until proven completely wrong, I'm expecting exactly that. A fairly restrictive system that only builds on 8 basic sets of skills, not really changing their core functions, but just adding/changing effects.

And to me, fighting mobs is boring right from the start, so even if the pvp exist for a short period of time, it'll be way more exciting than just killing mobs. I've also pvped people for 12 years and it never got boring. The only reason I stopped playing Lineage 2 was because the class design went to shit in the later updates so I had to play the older versions, which at that time scale does indeed become boring because there's literally nothing new when you know the game from A to Z and you play with ...

Uhm, in your own example the winner was the mobs. I understand that you don't consider them as smth that can win, but if you lost against a mob - the mob won. Otherwise you wouldn't have lost to it. And I'm glad that you find fighting the same mobs for 2500 times w/o killing them, but to me it's way more interesting to fight people where I never know whether I can win or not. Your example just shows that there's mobs that are too ez and you know you gonna kill w/o a problem and then there's ...

I mean, I didn't fight people who were wearing gear that's below mine by a few tiers. And when I fought dudes in the same tier as me, I never knew whether I'd win or not, because a lot depended on their skill lvl. I've had pvp against classes that I should've easily won, but opponent's skill lvl prevented me from winning. I also fought against overboosted characters that didn't know how to play, so I managed to win against them. You could say that it's the same with mobs, but if at max lvl you still have mobs ...

For RP'ers? /Ignore Should Also Make the Harasser Invisible in Safe Zones

Afaik the only safe zone that would matter in this situation is your freehold and I'd rather just have the ability to expel anyone I want from my freehold's footprint.

I don't really care about the head hair, but I do care about the beard (future dunir main reporting in). And the beard shown was somewhat weird-looking. Mainly the sharp cutoff felt off a bit. I think that could be a style of beard, but I feel like for the beard to feel "realistic" there should be some gradient to it. So if we could have smth like a "5 o'clock shadow at the base of the beard (on the cheeks) going into a bushier beard with ending in some stylistic form at the end" - that would be ...

What's the leveling limit in parties and does it influence XP debt removal? Let's say a lvl50 player PKs so much that they go down to ~lvl30 power lvl. Can a party of lvl50s powerlvl that PKer through their debt or will there be a limit on leveling XP debters?

At least right now, you can't flag on your party/raid/guild/ally-mates. So it'd be difficult to setup a mock battle between 2 allied guilds or parties of the same guild.

Do you only kill a single mob once then? How would you not know whether you can kill a mob or not, unless there's constant randomness of abilities/stats on that mob that change you every new interaction with it? You glanced over Terraria and Elden Ring bosses, which afaik are considered somewhat difficult and usually require several, if not countless tries to beat. It took me ~4h to beat the Tree Sentinel as my first mob in a Souls game (not counting the boss in the starting location). I figured out his pattern of moves on maybe 5-10th run ...

I used them as an example of "difficult" pve that I've done before to show that L2 isn't the only game that I've killed mobs in. That highly depends on their class, your own class and the overall ability design of both. I had probably 5+ starters for 1v1 pvps in L2 and then ~5 more for party pvp. And that's just starters. The action tree branched out quite a lot after that. You forgot to give an example here, so I'd like to ask again. So one of the ways to make PvE better is literally making it ...

In theory yes, but it would obviously require everyone to have alts, which might exclude those who don't want to make them. Or it would just promote making alts, which Intrepid is trying to avoid afaik.

Yes, except I'd have that openers in the open world against any enemy I come across, instead of going to the same damn mobs again and again. And I have no way to see/check what that even looks like. You argue against my point by saying "you haven't experienced shit so your point is mute, yet you're not even presenting a single example of what shit I'd have to play to be able to argue against your point. I am a pvp-focused player, except in L2 that pvp had a background of grinding mobs, so there wasn't really a ...

Healing

Post by Ludullu on 2022-04-26 14:12:53

Healing issues could be outdesigned w/o even touching the combat. Have a counter on all healing abilities (augmented ones included). If you cast the same healing ability twice in a row, the mana consumption doubles. Three times? Triples. And so on. And give cleric a ton of situational or just varied heals, so that they can still heal a party w/o any real problems, but if they had to heal a single target or themselves, they'd have to use the stronger heals because weak/party heals are not enough. Mb make the party heals have a "gives mana regen if ...

Healing

Post by Ludullu on 2022-04-26 15:26:03

So just as I said at the end, I guess I misunderstood what others mean by "combat revamp". To me, ability design is not the same as "do I swing a weapon w/o a target or do I need to click on someone" or "do I move with my ability when I use it?". You can still use my example in both tab and action combat. And from what I understood, the problem was with exactly that, the way the combat works, and not the abilities that make use of that combat base. Maybe I was wrong in that ...

I'm saying that I'm gonna do my best to become a part of that kind of group and kill that kind of mob. And I would have a motivation to do so exactly because I'd have to first fight through a ton of other people trying to do the same thing.

Alpha 2 Question

Artifact's beta only lasted a week before the release, so there is precedent. Don't know if there's one in the mmo genre though.

The game will either be hybrid combat or just tab, if hybrid doesn't work out. But the combat itself is still being reworked, so we haven't seen the final version yet. There'll be a ton of weather stuff. https://ashesofcreation.wiki/Climate Live GMs will be the main method of combating bots.

Do you feel like Ashes is missing races?

Post by Ludullu on 2022-05-03 18:25:55

A looooot will depend on how they develop Tulnar. If the range of Tulnar character creation is huge, people might be able to create their own "race". Outside of that, I'd say we have more than enough.

Impossible easter eggs and why I love them.

Post by Ludullu on 2022-05-04 03:25:51

I think this could be combined with OP's idea. Mb you find that grinding spot and after killing a thousand mobs there (or just getting very very lucky), you loot a piece of rock slab that points you towards another mob location. And possession of this slab gives you more XP/money when farming that new spot. And maybe that spot is not the most optimal for your class to farm, so you gotta bring friends. And those friends might want to do this "quest line" too so you farm the first location to drop them a piece of the ...

PVP - Ganking/PKing Accountability.

Post by Ludullu on 2022-05-04 15:40:58

I'm not sure if I'm for this kind of system cause I feel like it would lead to more abuses now than it did before. The gaming culture has shifted quite a bit, and imo for the worse (or at least it seems like it did). And like Dygz said, quite a lot of people wouldn't care for the revenge part just because they don't want to participate in the pvp at all. Also, in the current system there'd probably be no real revenge. If a pver gets killed and decides to then go and enact revenge, their killer ...

Crafting Recipes

Post by Ludullu on 2022-05-04 23:40:56

Dunno if they will take this direction in crafting, but in L2 crafters would learn the recipe once to know how to craft the thing (and sell their services) but you'd still need to get more recipes to craft each new item. And the recipes themselves could be veeery rare (one drop in several hundred mobs) and would go for a ton of money on the market. But what's important is that you only needed recipes for the gear part of crafting. The craftable resources only required the knowledge of the recipe, so anyone could use crafter's services to ...

Crafting Recipes

Post by Ludullu on 2022-05-05 03:36:40

I understand and agree with your point, but WoW wasn't the only mmo to call them recipes. Lineage 2 (one of the biggest influences on Steven) also called any piece of paper, that told you how to craft smth, a recipe.
