Have the equalized power in arenas, but definitely not in the open world. What's the point of building up your character in an rpg if it's not stronger than other characters that have not been built up as much. Let hardcore players be stronger than casuals because they're hardcore.

I'd even say behind several.

Yeah, which is why it was changed later on. I was just giving an example where this kind of thing could be used. A lot of things in Ashes will already be veeeery exclusive so adding one more exclusive thing, that's only meant for the people who care about collecting all the things/features in the game, shouldn't be that much of a bad thing. Hell, you could even have the last part as an optional step that gives you the title, while all the previous steps give you the gear/accessory/cosmetic.

No free transfers, yes language tagging as a suggestion for the players.

If this is your main goal, you should look into guilds with the same goal before the release. Even if your start is staggered, I'm sure there'll be someone who leaves that guild before you start and you can then take their place and level up faster because the guild will help you. If you do not plan on playing a lot, yet that is still your goal - this game might not be for you because there won't be any participation awards, so you'll have to work hard or smart in order to achieve great heights. But what ...

Yep, I really hope people get into Steven's idea of "Node above all". Having small tightknit communities within the overall server community will be amazing, if the design works out as planned.

And I'd bet money (if I had any) that all of those mmos will just be yet another themepark casual games where you get showered with rewards for just existing. AoC can fill the void for a not-so-casual mmo with open world pvp and pve that, allegedly, will have no p2w. If anything, Intrepid need to look at what BDO is doing wrong and do that right. Obviously quite a lot of BDO players care about the combat a lot, so I doubt Ashes can win those people over, but I'd assume a lot of other BDO players want ...

And server transfer w/o loss of property/gear/resources/money would bring imbalance to the new server.
Post by Ludullu on 2022-05-07 23:37:52
At the point where you might need a transfer, the leveling process will most likely be way shorter than the currently projected one, while getting new gear/property/etc (of the same quality), on a new server where you don't know anyone, would take you way longer. But starting a new character and integrating into the server's community from the very start would not only flow smoother, but would also let other people to know you better.

The point of the corruption system is to punish anyone who tries to kill too many people or just kill non-combatants too often. Yes, bring your friends to the slaughter of the reds, they are welcomed. As for "clearing my friend's corruption", they'll still suffer all the penalties that come with death while being red. If you really want to help your friend, better help him grind that corruption off. Neither of those are a work around. As the system is currently presented, those are working as they should. Now Intrepid might change smth once people, who have never ...

Yeah, in L2 if you saw a red player - you'd start killing him immediately, unless you saw that he was way stronger than you. Players were the bulls and reds were the piece of cloth in the hands of a toreador, except the players had a higher chance of hitting their target than the bulls do.

Intrepid already holds an anti-macros stance, because they plan on having a security system that tracks automatic/multi-action inputs. I'd assume the "behavioral" part of prevention will track player's prolonged presence in some location, so if some dude is picking flowers in the same field for 3h in one sitting, that character will get flagged and checked (and imo, should get the flowers taken from them, if they turn out to be a bot). There's also the ability to just kill a bot if you see one. Now it obviously might be risky because being corrupted brings its own consequences, ...

That is if they prohibit us from ressing corrupted players. I'd personally prefer they allow it, but I could definitely see how a lot of people would be against that.

And for some people, LA and other "channels games" are killing the feel of community in the game. When you can interact with, potentially, hundreds of thousands of people - every single interaction doesn't matter. But when you have a few thousand people on one server with maybe a few hundred at the very top of character progress, you know their names, you know their story and you're interested in interacting with all of them or ideally becoming one of the "known people".

And I hope this takes a ton of time and resources. So that even the people who PK rarely would sooner or later garner quite a few PKs on their character and would get quite a bit of corruption after just one kill. And at that point I feel like rezing them would be viable, because if they killed someone while they were farming with their friends, they weren't really genociding people but still got a ton of corruption. Grinding it off would take too long so it'd be faster to rezkill yourself a few times and remove it ...

Oh, for sure. You suffer the same penalties, but just lose the same amount of corruption that you would've were you to just respawn. L2 allowed it. Now I know that Ashes is not L2, nor am I saying it should be, but I'm just saying that there's precedent for it working out just fine. Now there's also the issue of XP debt removal and how that would work in party farming. Let's say you got so much debt that your stats equal that of a lvl40 character (while you're at lvl50). In theory you'd have to fight lvl40 ...

Pretty sure they started 5 years ago with a super small team (way too small for an mmo of this size) and have only boosted their numbers in the past year or so. And they're constantly hiring, just as Prophet said. Their only investors are Steven, his husband and us, the players. Mmos take time, huge mmos like Ashes take even longer. And if we consider the producer blunder Steven did back at the start of development, we get another 1-2 years thrown on top of production. And then you add Covid, and even if they say that they ...

I'm an L2 simp so I wanna grind mobs for 50h dropping 1/16th of a gear piece once every 5-6h and maaaaaaybe dropping a full gear piece once a week. And considering that crafting will be one of the main sources of gear - I feel like my preference will be quite close to the Ashes' reality.

And Intrepid want to track big movements of currency, so there's a chance they'll catch those who do it. I hope they're successful enough to minimize the impact of rmt as much as possible. How exactly do player transfers relate to the in-game economy? Or am I misunderstanding what you mean here? Do you mean just inflow of new players or specifically players transferring from other servers?

We can't put points in our stats, but we'll have L2-like tattoos that change stat values https://ashesofcreation.wiki/Stats#Stat_growth

That will highly depend on how long/expensive the PK count reduction process is. I do plan on PKing people for grind spots (if there even are any, cause Intrepid somehow promise to not have grinding), but I'll be trying to reduce the count as much as possible as often as possible. That being said, I do want that process to be very long and quite expensive.

The game's in alpha stage with only 3 classes shown up to lvl15, so there's barely any info about abilities or augments or anything of the sort. Here's the main source for any info on the game. https://ashesofcreation.wiki/Classes

Yeah, and that any game with direct trading. If Intrepid fights bots and tracks huge movements of money, they'll minimize the impact of this issue as much as possible. But the only solution to this "weakness" would be disallowing trading, which imo is the worst thing possible.

At the risk of sounding like a broken record I must say this, L2's bosses would drop full pieces of gear and mats for crafting those same pieces of gear. The craft itself required a recipe (which were rare and expensive) and quite a bit of other resources, but having the mats would already give you a good start, which is why people fought over bosses. There's a chance that Steven meant smth similar to that system, where the boss drops are pretty much same as crafted stuff. Maybe there's some differences in stats/passive abilities, because one can be ...

Could definitely be interesting. And seeing the Ashes multiverse grow would be amazing too.

The game will be balanced for group pvp, so most likely it'll be closer to zerg-like fights rather than single pvpers running around and picking people off. No one's stopping you from trying though. L2 was also party-balanced, but buffs allowed some of the more OP pvp classes to fight against smaller groups. Considering bards will be present in Ashes too, I'd assume smth similar will work here as well.

Steven even talked about small instanced fights for groups of potential mercenaries during sieges. And there'll be several goals during a siege so I'd assume good big guilds will definitely split up into smaller parts and try to attack several places at the same time. https://ashesofcreation.wiki/Sieges

I feel like this fits better in "Guild recruitment". I'd suggest trying out old versions of L2 to see whether your community can survive the pvp system.
Post by Ludullu on 2022-05-11 19:31:26
Ah, I see. I was just worried it'd get moved by admins, but I guess it won't. That's good. And as for L2, it's definitely on the older side and most likely won't be to the liking of most people these days, but it definitely plays heavily into favor of guild/party gameplay, teaches you the Ashes pvp system (though a bit more lax on the penalties) and shows the player sales/crafting stalls system. It's also way more grindy than Ashes will allegedly be, so if you do play it and dislike that part of the game, you shouldn't worry ...
