Alacrite understands the system just fine. They just want to change it.

Unless all the servers across the world follow literally the same path of node development, I'd say that kind of situation is impossible. Now obviously you as a player will definitely not experience all of the content that the game will have, and you'll have to come to terms with that. But on the grander scale, I'd bet all content will be experienced by at least someone. And then that person can tell others about that content and, if others are interested in it, they can work together to develop the node that provides that content. And that's the ...

Wondering about a slight change to the flagging system

Post by Ludullu on 2022-05-15 14:22:31

That is literally the intention though. Steven literally took Lineage 2's pvp system as it was and copied it into Ashes. It has been this way for over 5 years of development now and each time someone's scared shitless by something they don't know (because no one on the planet earth apparently played L2) and they complain about the system being broken and untested, Steven said that the game might not be for everyone, because it'll be a bit harsher than "I can pick flowers for hours and no one's got powers to stop me". But wait! Steven went ...

And Alacrite wants to prevent the combatant from doing anymore attacks on the green player. I don't think Alacrite is saying that. And their change wouldn't influence that part of the equation either way. Even if Alacrite's system is implemented, people would still be able to disrupt the gathering ability, if we can that at all. And if we can't disrupt it even by CCing the gatherer, then the only solution is to kill them, at which point you'd go red in either system. Alacrite's suggestion is only applicable to "attack harassment" of green players. In the current system ...

Yeah, that was more of a rebuttal to the whole concept of "there might be something wrong with your system that you have kept the same for over 5 years, and which has been tested with 1.5 decade worth of gameplay, and which I haven't tested myself but I think it's wrong". I can totally understand the disagreement with the current system, but saying "but idk if the intention of the game would want PvP'ers to dictate so many actions of PvE'er can do. I just think it'd be weird for a PvP'er to constantly interrupt and take shit ...

Wondering about a slight change to the flagging system

A bit, yes, because in the past 2 years of me following this game's development I've seen countless posts of "unless you change this system that I personally dislike THE GAME WILL FAIL SO FUCKING HARD MAAAAN". I'm not saying that you're doing the same thing, but the overall attitude towards suggested changes, to systems that people haven't even tested properly, usually gets pretty bad. On top of that, I'm super overprotective of the PvP system in Ashes because I'm a Lineage 2 simp and with it being one of Steven's inspirations (for exactly its pvp system) I get ...

I mainly blame faction-based pvp systems for this. Because in most cases you're rewarded for absolutely genociding people from another faction. And in the same amount of cases you can't change said faction (or at least heavily dissuaded from doing so), which leads to you just feeling like shit because your faction might not have as many people in it so you get assfucked day in day out. In L2 you had no factions. But you did have clans (guilds). And every player was free to join or leave any of the clans on the server at any time ...

Crafting question | Apprenticing across artisan classes?

Post by Ludullu on 2022-05-15 17:51:08

I'd prefer a step system. At the first step you can do any of the professions at tier 1. At the second step (that you ascend with a conscious choice of your future) you get to do tier 2 stuff in 2 branches. At third step you pick your main branch. And at forth step you pick your specialty within that branch. How I see it, this would allow people to do the things you described at the start of their game, and later on they'll be able to support their specialty with their general artisan professions. And depending ...

You need to hold a button that lets you attack a green, so this example won't get you flagged. Most likely they won't exactly for the same reason aoe won't. It'd be stupid to have the aoes not hit other people but weapon hits do. Yes, that's unrealistic, but it serves the game mechanics much better than the realistic version would.

And the game should try to have that decent combat on top of good lore. That way the mmo players can fight each other with decent combat, while the rpg players concentrate on the lore of the places where the mmo players are fighting. That's the whole point of an mmorpg imo. You combine the two, otherwise you just have a multiplayer game and a separate rpg game, of which we have many. And allegedly that's exactly what Steven is trying to do. Have some deep lore, while the nodes/castles/guilds wage war around lore bosses and dungeons.

I'd assume that we don't need to press a button to attack another player within a pvp event (cause imo that'd be stupid and inconvenient as hell). So if you're attacking/defending/ignoring different caravans in a group (if the system does in fact work this way) then you'd just try to hit another player, but wouldn't be able to, so no corruption. There's an in-system rewards for both attackers and defenders. And a kind of seasons system where you need to successfully defend or attack caravans if you want to get better rewards (at least that's how I understand it), ...

I played some dota 2 back in the day, but it's not as interesting as pvp mmos. Mainly for, yes, the character progression. I'm completely fine with dying in pvp for a few months at the hands of stronger players if I know for sure that I can become one of those stronger players later on and win against them and others. And then get people who outprogress me. Rinse and repeat.

Lineage 2 over enchantment babyyyyy. Loved that shit. Spend a week grinding to craft a weapon just to burn it all to hell by failing to over enchant it. Kept the base gear lvl of all the players roughly the same, while the lucky ones were above everyone else.

I feel like overenchantment is meant only for pushing the peak of character progress. You can get you BiS, you can get additional effects on its attack/defense functions, but if you want to go up in power - you gotta risk smth. Just putting more resources into the weapon is not a risk, it's an assured way up through time. Imo enchantments for vertical progression of gear should be ultra rare. Someone over enchanting a weapon should be a damn event for the server. That one person will get 1-3% boost in power, but their reputation will be that ...

I feel like getting some kind of a rune stone as a reward in all the augment sources, with an ability to combine those stones into one that enhances your gear in the same way your augments do to your character, would be great. And let us move that rune stone with us through the gear tiers. So at lvl 25 you'd get your main "class" rune and then with each additional augment from religion/social stuff/other sources you'd add effects onto this rune. So by the end of your character progress, your gear will reflect your lifestyle. Alternatively those ...

That's a new L2 system, not the old one. I think Steven's going for the old one. The core is the same - the higher you go the lower the chance, but there was no security in old L2. You had to prepare a backup if you wanted to OE your weapon. And if you have some +10 weapon, you'd usually just risk the enchant and could go back to +3 (cause that was the safe enchant limit), so your character power would go down by a fair bit. There was no selling of weapons in the store, so, ...

Wrong to who though? Intrepid's the ones creating the system. You using another definition for what they're creating would just bring confusion to people who've heard Intrepid's definition and would think that you're using that, instead of your own.

Fighting the same person around 20 times for the "right" to farm a dungeon room. Going back and forth in wins and losses because our power lvl is almost the same. After a hew hours of this back and forth and complimenting each other on our gaming skills, I decided to start a guild with that player. He accepted and we played together for several years after that. Across several servers, across several other guilds. This is what open world pvp means to me.

I can definitely agree with that. But fwiw Lineage 2 had a "horizontal" enchantment system, akin to the current AoC's one, in one of the later updates. You had the normal "vertical" enchant scrolls that would just increase the gear's atk/def and then they added rune stones that would add (and could then be increased) elemental dmg to said piece of gear. You'd usually have alternative weapons for specific situations (or specific enemies), just as you said in your definition. So if, by chance, Steven got inspired by that kind of system, then their definition of "horizontal" enchantment is ...

If repairing a weapon and bringing it back to its previous OE lvl has the same material/resource price as a full craft and OEing of the same weapon - I'll be completely fine not losing said weapon during a failed OE (that is if a broken weapon is unusable), but if it's cheaper or if you can use the weapon - I'd definitely prefer for there to be a chance to destroy the item. I really think that hard gear sinks are required in non-souldbound games.

Alpha-2 Combat Test Recruitment (involves being on a stream)

I'm from EU and don't have the alpha2 key yet (nor do I have the money for it rn), but I'm definitely planning on buying the key as soon as I can once we know when alpha2 will start. And I'm completely free on all the days and all the times. I also plan on streaming, but that'll be decided closer to alpha 2, so I'd be fine with that. And I'm planning on testing everything to its absolute limit, so I'm definitely all for testing some good party pvp. You can write me up as a potential participant, ...

Discussion about grinds

Post by Ludullu on 2022-05-17 02:05:27

For me it was always the reward of my actions and constant pressure of potential pvp. If I came to some location to drop an item from a mob, I'm completely fine with farming that same location for several days if I get to fight other people for the same location. And once I drop that item, I'm freaking ecstatic. But usually, the longer I farmed the location, the more excited I'd be. In other words, I guess I'm somewhat of a masochist myself. With the game in question being Lineage 2, obviously.

But what do you do when those quests end? Or when you're blocked by node progress and have outlvled any current mobs or quests or even your chosen artisan branch. Should there be something for people who have done all those things and want more or should it be the FF14 way of "play the game to its current fullest and go touch grass"?
