I mean, my main stance on this is still "make the freehold a non-pvp zone", just as it was stated previously, so we kinda agree on that. But just as every other pvp is in the game to let people prevent other players from doing some content, because it's profitable for the attacker in some way - attacking someone on their freehold applies in the same way. To me it's definitely less meaningful than attacking someone for a farming spot, but it could still be used as a tool for pressuring a node or a guild or a group ...

L2's gate pvp was one of the funnest shit in the game. And it worked exactly as you described. If anything, no-pvp freeholds would bring more fun to the game.

Preventing high value artisanry, which would've generated xp for the node. Preventing high value trade of the results of that artisanry (in case in was done inside the house), which would've boosted node's relations and citizens' progress. Those are the biggest two, but I do think that I thought of more, but I forget them rn.

Yes, majority of pure artisans would probably not turn it off and hope they have enough money to cover the taxes. A few might risk it for the discount. But even if none of them do, there's still the "guild/group" part of my comment, so that still stands.

If what Steven said on twitter is true they will literally do that. Them explaining how their story systems will work and how POIs will function is one of the biggest core systems in the game. The success of the game will highly depend on these systems, because the majority of people care about story, their role in it and the gameplay of it.

Yeah, I want the same stuff, which is why my first comment in this thread was very negative. And I still doubt that they'll tell/show us as much detail as I'm assuming rn. But there's a tiny chance that showing and explaining systems will start happening with this stream (mage and boss showcase being the next 2). Though obviously that's copious amounts of copium

Because the game needs limitations if it wants to have owpvp that won't just devolve into "everyone kills everyone w/o any repercussions". We all know that you'd love to just have ffa pvp with no corruption and everyone just killing any carebear-looking player, but quite a lot of us don't want that Also, if a ganker is fine with corruption penalties they're free to force attack everything, greens included. But I doubt there'll be dumb people like that. Though I could definitely see someone enabling that and them coming onto forums to whine about karmabombing and that kind of ...

Asmon is the pinnacle of what you'd call a carebear. And he says that leveling should be meaningful, but I'd bet money that he'd be complaining throughout the whole experience if it was, even if the game was fun on the low lvls. He hates anything even semidifficult and is very easy to ragequit a game if he find a mechanic or two annoying. I'm more than certain that he won't be able to survive in Ashes, especially if any of your suggestions get even close to being implemented.

I've only been watching him for a few years, but I've only seen him become an even bigger carebear. And even in that video he kept insisting that only a fraction of the playerbase is interested in hardcore classic. And pretty much 80% of his feedback goes against AoC's core pillars. It will be one of the most uncomfortable games for him and he'll complain non-stop while playing it. I just hope that Intrepid don't listen to him and his audience too much, cause they'll definitely push for a whole 180 in design.
Post by Ludullu on 2023-03-28 19:14:39
Nothing has changed so far. Arya just keeps not knowing AoC's design, even though I'm pretty sure we've had this discussion before and this has been corrected before as well.

I'm definitely interested in Steven's opinion on those actions, cause L2 didn't see it as a problem and instead it was one of the attractions of the game (at least for people in the know).

And this is exactly why you're seen as a murderhobo. Being able to do anything usually devolves into harassment and abuse of other people, so devs have to address that beforehand. But you dislike when they do so in their design.

I could maybe see a node policy that helps out with this interaction. The mayor could make the guards either agro onto purely red players or on flagged ones as well. This would also help out greens that are being attacked by some rando. This would obviously have to be counterbalanced by a limited amount of policies per node and several other good choices that some people would prefer over this policy. Cause otherwise it would just be a default one. I'd probably go with some "taxes are lower, cause guards only attack reds" thing, but I'm sure that ...

And corruption has rules to stop you from doing that, because if just a few people do this, hundreds of players will leave. And if there's a few people like that on each server - the game will lose thousands and thousands in revenue.
Post by Ludullu on 2023-03-29 08:38:48
I must yet again repeat: currently the NODES ARE NOT SAFE ZONES. You can be pvped and pked in a node (city, town, settlement whateverthefuck). I'm almost sure that enough people will complain for this to change, but right now they are not safe. And the "chance" is that the attacker will just keep stunning the victim until a mob kills them. The attacker get's no corruption, but gets full loot. Great honesty you got there
Post by Ludullu on 2023-03-29 09:22:12
And this is the exact complaining I was talking about. No, not a group. Just one player who keeps stunning a green player who doesn't want to fight back. Or stuns them just at the right moment when the mob is about to kill them (because we can see health decay on nameplates). Or you slow down someone who agroed a train of mobs. Or you silence a mage. Or any other CC that can lead to a player's death. I've seen this happen a ton of times in L2 with stuns. Now we don't know whether Steven will ...

Because in most games those mobs are scripted, so it always comes down purely to your own skill and you learning the fight. Pvp is never predictable (outside of top lvl arena) and quite often super unfair because you're fighting against bigger forces or a much stronger foe who just wants to shit on weaker people. Going into a dungeon to kill mobs is also completely planned, while dying to a PKer while you're gathering plants is never planned, which is way more annoying to the victim. This is why I want to minimize the impact on greens, while ...

I'd still prefer this to be report based, just because tracking 10k+ players on every server at all times would probably require a ton of resources and might introduce lag or something similar to the game. But this definitely looks promising and could definitely make GMs' lives way easier.

Unless you just want to kill people that never fight back - no, it'll lead to more good pvp. If greens could be CCed, they'll never fight back because they'll get overwhelmed by CCs and attacks before they can even return a hit, so they'll never even try. But if they can respond with a CC after getting attacked - there's gonna be more people willing to fight back. This design will create more pvp situations instead of pure PKing. Ashes aims to have a 30s-1m time to kill balancing. If your target responds to your attack with a ...

Steven revealed it after a video doubting the system. But as been stated previously, L2 had the same mechanic, with the only difference being CCs with an attack attribute, but we don't know whether absolutely all CCs in Ashes won't work against greens or if there'll be exceptions. And that non-100% chance of CCs still benefits the first attacker, so again, the pvper/PKer will still win more fights than the green. The only reason to want CCs against greens is if you want to abuse that mechanic and kill them through mobs w/o getting corruption. You are the one ...

I think that's the only game I've played with traps in it. I'd definitely like some in Ashes just to spice up the dungeons though.
Post by Ludullu on 2023-03-29 21:35:05
Give a reason for why you should be able to CC a green, other than your desire to kill them before they could respond. Why do you need to CC a person who's not even fighting back? I played L2 as a pvper, so I'd attack first in 90% of interactions with other players. I'd attack others if they were passing by my farming spot, just to let them know that I'm ready to fight for it. My winrate depended on a lot of things, but I never needed a CC as my first attack because I never needed ...

Yes, I've fought against Tyrs and Destrs who had x2-3 my hp. And my first hit brought our hp values closer. And yes, they replied with a stun, because that is exactly what you do against an attacker who hit you first. And this was fair, because they had time to retaliate rather than me unloading as much as I can while they literally do fuckall, because they're stunned or CCed in other ways. In my 12 years of L2 experience barely anyone started a fight with a stun, because stuns usually had way lower dmg value on them, ...

For me it's about the balance in the game's rules that control how far players can constrict each other's gameplay.
Post by Ludullu on 2023-03-30 19:37:59
Are we talking about controlled arena pvp or open world one? Cause those two things are completely different. And as for archers, I even asked a friend of mine who has played the game as long as me and in his experience archers were the only ones who'd even try starting the fight with a stun, but even then they didn't do so every time. The unfair advantage comes when the attacker has over 20% difference in hp values right from the start of the fight, before the target can even respond with anything because they were CCed w/o ...

Yeah, my bad. I went over your messages in this thread again and saw that from the very first one you were just talking about PKing and not pvping. Yeah, PKing is made harder in Ashes, as it should be, so we have indeed been talking about different things.

Looks great. The visual and sound change was great. A bit low on mobs, but that's obviously alpha stage related. As for concerns, any potential push spells could fuck people over on that bridge. That mimic mob was nice and I definitely want way more mechanics similar to him. All kinds of traps, fakeouts and stuff like that. Some of my favorite tower dungeons were Cruma Tower and Tower of Insolence from Lineage 2 and they had dead ends with dangerous mobs, big rooms that would lock up if you woke up a boss there, and just maze-like internal ...

We still have no clue about the drop amounts, so PKing a single player purely for loot might be completely pointless. And mules will most likely be really slow, and they give less corruption right now, so if you're a PKer who's looking for some loot - go kill an ass. For most other applications of PKing - the system is doing its job. You want to take someone's farming spot but they're not flagging up? PK them and start grinding off your corruption right away. Some rando green is trying to mess up your boss farm w/o flagging ...

I had a similar suggestion for the BHs over a year ago, but just on a smaller time scale and with more meaning than just "get revenge".
